You can safely draw multiple tubes per session. You would have to draw more than 100ml before the animal would have any notable side effects (which we would probably not be able to see). Ideally we would like you to give them a few weeks off between blood draws and if you can get what you need at once, that’s ideal. Scaring of the vessel and discomfort are our main concerns regarding frequent sticks.
We are testing codon 171 in are sheep hoping for RR in all them 😆 But was told they are all RR or QR so that’s good but need to know all the ones that are RR because it seems all the good rams are QR and need to only breed RR ewes.
What a great idea to use a butterfly IV set for blood draws. Seems easier on the animal and the person performing the blood draw. Thanks Tim!
Thanks for the nice comment! Hope it helps!
Thank you! Great tutorial and now I I feel I can do it myself like a big girl 😅
That’s great. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a kind comment. Good luck!
Thanks. That's great information.
Where do you go for genetic testing? I want to make sure we were sold true full blooded Katahdins.
I do not know of any labs that provide pedigree genetic testing.
Excellent
Thank you!
May I ask how many ml we can withdraw blood on a sheep per withdrawal. How often we can get in a month. Please advise.
