171k miles on my V6 AWD RAV4 SPORT. Original struts and bearings. Still rides great and I have had that car on service roads and washboard roads for years. Just bought a 2002 Camry LE V6 with 190,000 miles for $3,400. I love it. Bought from the original owner who purchased it new in 2002 and used it as a daily commuter for 18 years, and who kept detailed logs of all maintenance and repairs, and kept all original parts, floormats, marketing materials, etc. It's like a time capsule. Runs like a dream. I plan to keep it until it dies - gonna shoot for 500,000 miles.

Yep. No way your finding a good 5th Gen Camry for under $2k unless the thing was beat to death.
I had a 2004 Camry SE. Bought it used with 18k miles. Drove it until it had 188k miles. Best car I ever owned. I didn't even know squat about cars back then, so the only maintenance I performed was to swing by Valvoline Instant Oil Change every few thousand miles. So even with a lot of neglect, this thing held up heroically. I eventually gave it to my oldest son and purchased a 2014 Camry SE Sport. My son within one-years time destroyed my beloved Camry. He never changed the oil, he drove it almost always on empty, and he smashed in the front grill. Eventually the engine gave out (surprise, surprise).
      Best car I ever owned.

The 4-cyl 2AZ-FE engine does quaff a quart of oil every 1100-1300 miles, but the mechanics say that’s “within factory specs”, and the cat and O2 sensors don’t seem to care. I’d take a couple pics of the car and odometer for you, but my 22yr-old son has it in suburban D.C. for a summer internship. It’s the best $5K I’ve spent on a car (bought from my MIL 12 years ago).

Only problems we’ve had were a radiator leak 5 years ago and a bad starter/alternator a few years ago, which is relatively nothing compared to my mom’s dodge magnum. @@maxwellsandhu7469 I bought a 2005 4cyl Camry for 2400, and the engine has been solid. However, things do wear over time, and also I am in Iowa now and it's been in it the Midwest all 15 years of it's life. All the things I had to fix were basically issues of either rust from salted roads, or wear and tear of a car over 200k. I had to put new front struts, new gas tank, new rear sub-frame which also meant new control arms and hardware. Oh and a new wheel bearing. Oh and the tranny fluid service was due while I had it. All in spent about 5k in repairs and maint over 2.5 years. BUT the engine has always ran smooth and it's been super reliable IE starts right up and runs strong every time. So yes be prepared to put in money on a high mileage vehicle, but too me this is one that has been worth it as I foresee it easily going over 300k and I'm hoping to 500k. It still looks great and rides smooth. I wouldn't sink all that money into any car other than Toyota or Honda. Hands down.

Thanks Scotty for this video. I really appreciate it because I love Toyota cars since I was in my country Puerto Rico. I bought my 2.4L 2005 Camry 3 years ago from a friend with 130,000 miles. Now it has 252,000. With the COVID-19 quarantine and the social distancing recomendations I have some time to do maintenance other than oil changes. Yesterday I replaced the valve cover gasket and took a look to the time chain and was as firm as new. All the head components couldn't be better. Overall is a very good car to own and a very easy to work with. The 5th, 4th, and 3th generations of Camry are, in my opinion, the best Toyotas ever made. Of course, it would last "forever" with proper maitenance, specially engine and transmission oil changes. I hope mine is one of those still running when reach 500,000 miles...

Bought a cheap 2000 Toyota Echo for my new driver teenage daughter. It needed a clutch so we have been having fun wrenching on it together. I’m impressed with the quality of the wiring harnesses in a 20 year old car. No dry rot or brittle plugs or looms. 20 years and 200k miles and the rear main was still holding, although since I was pulling the flywheel to resurface it I decided to spend the 2 minutes to swap it out. It too uses a timing chain which makes for a plus. While it wouldn’t be worth paying a wrench bender the time it takes to get into this thing to change the clutch, the time I’ve been spending on it has been working with my daughter so that’s been rewarding for both of us. And no, she’s not just handing tools to me but turning wrenches herself and running impacts.

Scotty, the last time I watched this video, I owned a Matrix XR, and had no desire to purchase a Camry. Then, two weeks ago, I found a 2002 Camry LE on Marketplace with 188,000 miles on it, and the price was affordable. Not made in Japan, but in Tennessee. Purchased it, noticed it bounced like a boat on waves, and knew it needed news struts. I replaced the ball joints, control arms, stabilizer links, tie rods, motor mounts, all of the struts, and the cabin air filter. Once the brake rotors and shoes arrive, I'll update the brakes. Automatic transmission shifts smoothly, and the previous owners must have garaged it because the paint is amazingly nice. Even the tires are still good, and a fresh August inspection gives me full year. Everything works. I sold the XR, and this is the car I drive now. Thank you for the suggestion.

I have a 2005 model, same gen, for more than 4 years now, bought it of the first owner with 150.000kms and it already has 235.000 since i got it. I live in Australia and I drive up and down the cost looking for good surf, drive it a lot and it just keeps going. Is very simple to work on it if you enjoy getting your hands dirty, but if you dont any mechanics will fix it, parts are readily available here too. All mechanics that saw my car told not to sell it, still has plenty more to give... is not uncommon for them to do 600 000 to 700.000.

I bought one 2 days ago. 198,300 miles. $1600. I cleaned it up and after I changed the air filter, it runs like new. 20 years old and still almost perfect condition. EVERYTHING works.

How did you find it at that price?? Owners are asking for $4000 minimum when I try and look for something like this

@@vortexslayerf1729 Actually my son in law bought it for $500. He replaced the inside door handles, replaced a faulty starter, and replaced the front brake pads and turned around and offered it to me for $1600. His intent was to sell it for $2000 but He offered it to me for the better price. I said it was in perfect condition when I got it, but it could use some new struts also.

Dad had one in the 4 cylinder. He hated it so much that he traded it for the 6 cylinder. The engine rattled and made noise. The 6 is butter smooth. Loved that one until he went Lexus....
