My friend Jamo told the story about this video--Happy Birthday in heaven to the Sweetest man on earth; Joe Cocker.. I had the pleasure to work for him in the studio numerous times. One of my favorite stories of my career was with Joe. About June, 1999 I was working for Mariah Carey as the Stage/Production manager. I advanced this show in Modena, Italy called "Pavarotti & Friends". It was a satellite TV benefit shown all over Europe. The artists; Mariah, Lionel Richie, BB King, Gloria Estafan, and a big Italian act Zuccuro. Everybody got to do 1 song with an 80 piece orchestra and/or a 6 piece rhythm section and a duet with Pavarotti. We flew from NYC to Milan and they had a Lear jet fly us to Bologna. After I checked-in to the hotel I went down to the bar. Here's JOE COCKER sitting there. NOTHING better that being 10,000 miles from home and bumping into someone that you know.. I said; "Joe" he said "Jamo".. I had NO IDEA that he was on the show. I asked him "Did you do your soundcheck?" Everybody got a 1 hour soundcheck / rehearsal w/Pavarotti. He said "Today". "How was it?" I asked? He said; "I was fucking scared. I couldn't even look at the fucking guy". I asked; "What's your duet?" He said; "You are so Beautiful" "Great" was my response. Then Joe (who had a couple drinks in him) leaned into me and said; "You know what he said?" "My song was the hardest of all those songs for him to sing" Then he leaned closer into me and said; "That's Pava FUCKING Rotti saying that to ME!!!!" I LOVED IT.... At the gig he was there only with his road manager Ray Neopolitan. I came-in off the bench and was his crew for 15 minutes, making sure that his monitors were working and everything else was a go. He did "You Can Leave Your Hat On" with the 80 piece orchestra, and then his duet. Gargle Pavortti / Joe Cocker.. Its MAGIC Go on U-TUBE and check-out it out. Sorry to ramble-on. It was a magic moment in my career, one that I'll NEVER forget. I WAS THERE.. R.I.P. Love you... 79 Comments Pete Barbeau Jamo, this is an amazing pic... Obviously they had fairly high standards.
Luciano Pavarotti brought opera to the common man and allowed them to connect. I've always loved him! Joe Cocker is pretty much my all time favorite! Great to see them together!
