The first time I heard Vivaldi's "Spring," I was in a large music store in Champaign-Urbana, IL, buying rock 'n roll with my friends ... this came over the speakers, and I almost dropped everything I was holding ... rushed up to the counter to ask, "WHAT is THAT!" Gave up one of my rock 'n roll albums to get it (there was a special on purchasing 5 albums that day) I was hard-pressed to find another version that lived up to that album ... THIS just might be IT! Incredible ... Vivaldi must be overjoyed!

Especially the first movement, the repeating and never stopping singing of the birds reminds me of a disk that's kind of cracking or "hanging" (meaning us as humanity who have forgotten where they come from or the reason why we are here) and the bass Richter is putting under is God holding us still and despite of what we have done to earth and to ourselves. That is what comforts me most.
