Yes.... I was a Kid in the 80ies and when I was a Teen in the 90ies,Casio made only Thrash and Kiddie Synthesizers.... I was surprised when I heared Cosmo Synth, the VZ series and the HT 6000..... Cheap and very very spacy and 80ies!! So wonderful!!
I own EIII EIV Juno 106 OBXa DX7 etc etc I WILL NEVER sale my CZ1 and VZ1 . Just unique amazing sounds you will not make with any other synth , plus everything is really excellent: bass, pads , leads fx . Some cz1 bass for exemple can sound like a FM bass or a fat analog bass : never seen a synth that can sound digital and analogue at the same time ( i mean a synthesis who can creat a perfect dx7 bass type or a perfect analog bass ) just awesome.
Great sounds! I love both my CZ-1 and CZ-101, and as you said, they are packed full of surprises. Phase Distortion is still incredibly powerful and flexible even today. Also worth noting that even without external effects, they sound superb. Thanks for sharing the video and sounds 🙂
Nice tribute to Isao Tomita (via Claude Debussey) at the end there! Yeah, Tomita was something else. He got so many rich sounds out of his Moog modular system that it fully surpassed anything Wendy Carlos was doing with it at the time. He was on a completely different level.
jNICE1. I just added a cz1 to my small vintage collection. I love it and am learning to program it as I never had a cz. It joins a Roland Juno 60 and JSQ, korg Monopoly, Alesis qs6.1 (;0), alesis Hr 16 and couple of more modern soon to be classics. Thanks and nice sound and tracks. See you in the cosmos. Cz what I did there ? Ok I’ll stop.
My youtube was running by itself when I heard your pieces : nice ones and they sound superb, bravo ! 👏👏👏👏👍👍 Looking at the screen I discovered that you did it with a CZ !! I am just a big fan of this lineup ! In the 80's I made demo for them in music shops in France and these last years I made pieces mainly dedicated to them ( virtually : Virtual CZ and CZ-V) If you are curious : CZ+JX-8P th-cam.com/video/kuE8GqxrcO8/w-d-xo.html CZ only th-cam.com/video/OZX31nMDRfA/w-d-xo.html 😃😃. Never really liked the DX7.Almost every song had one in it. For me, this is much better. Very powerful. Lot more scope and is easier to programme. Thanks. Great demo
The CZ-5000 has the sequencer, but 32 of the 64 sounds are preset and cannot be changed. On CZ-1, all 64 sounds can be your own presets. CZ-1 otherwise adds a bunch of 'quality of life' style improvements. Operation Memory allows saving collections of normal sounds, one mix or spilt sounds. Think of it like a set list for live use. You can recall an Operation Memory preset rather than setitng up your layer and split from scratch each time. CZ-1 adds 'parameter copy' and 'exchange' functions. The former allows to you copy (for example) a complex envelope made for line 1 across to line 2, or the amp envelope copied to the pitch, rather than recreating all those envelope steps from scratch. Exchange lets you swap sound A2 with sound D4, which makes it easier to re-order your sounds so all the basses are together. The CZ-1 gets naming functions for the first time, so sounds can have names saved with them, for example 'synth split' or 'hold d4 modwheel' to give instructions for evolving sounds. Handy! However the biggest difference is that not only is the keyboard velocity and aftertouch sensitive, but it's the only CZ to respond to velocity information and allow velocity information to offset the envelopes and so on. So it can be a much more expressive instrument than the others, if programmed to take advantage of this. I was lucky enough to get both a 5000 and a 1 two days ago, and so far much CZ-5000 sounds 'cleaner' and clearer than the CZ-1, but that might just be my examples. Hope that helps :)
Hi. Most were just heavily modified factory presets which I didn't save (a few parameters I just changed at random) Some of the best sounds come up only when OPERATION MEMORY is on - and I haven't figured out how to change or back up those (buttons don't work when OM is on)
Hello Miguel, thanks for this video, since it really inspired me to use this synth to create sounds I remain a question. My CZ-1 creates noise. I read that the chorus creates noise, but when I turn it off, it is still clearly listenable. I also noticed, that over time I hear the keys when I hit them on the speaker. I use a simple Presonus Live Mixer with standard amplification. Is this normal, do I need a specific amplifier with noise reduction for the CZ-1, or is it simply broken and I have to change idk a relais or something? I'd really appreciate your help.
Thanks. The electronics inside are a bit past my knowledge. I had an old Synth once, which I could only get a reasonable clean sound out of the headphones output. Most of these old beasts have capacitors that are way beyond their usable life (paper inside is toast + electrolyte dried out) and should be replaced.
the relay will fail eventually. if its excessively noisey and the chorus slider is clicky then your need to replace the relay. but its has noise in the signal path by default i actually think it ages the sound well when in a mix imo.
The golden era of Casio synthesizers.
Super lush and complex. Not what I thought a Casio could do.

Totally agree!
My goodness, this sounds beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
One of the best synth videos I have seen.
First two reminded me of a radio show I used to listen to called Music From The Hearts Of Space
I heard some Clair de Lune in there. Love this demo!
Miss my CZ-1 loved the 8 stage envelopes so much more versatile than a standard ADSR.
I think I just found my dream synth…
What a cool sounding synth! I should probably have this, idk.
Wow. Beautiful synth!!

whoa there, don’t be talking shit! Those switched on albums are all incredible. Wendy is the real deal. Music isn’t a competition.
Beautiful
Nice style sounds !
I still have mine. I was able to get some great Lyle Mays style patches using the pitch envelopes.
Can I have these patches ?
@@casimirliberski I don't know how to send my patch data to you.
Wow, this is beautiful!
Casio remains a footnote in synthesizer history for as long as they want to. :'( They're competitive in digital pianos, still.

WTF!! Oo sound amazing!
Nice sounds, I have one of these in storage and it hasn't been used since the early 90's. What patches were these, or were they custom?
Awesome 😍
after touch/velocity sensitive?
Yes but very limited. These were the early days still.
@@migueldoliveiracomposer still more than alot of keyboards today!
Beautiful! Did you program these patches yourself?
It might have been mentioned but are these presets or sounds you created?
Wow! Amazing programming! Did you program this presets by your self??
Very nice sounds, what effects are you using?
What the name of 2 th sound??
does it have zones or a single split?
Great sounds! What effects are you using?
Thank you. The free chorus (Juno-6 emulation) from TAL + the Phaser that comes with Ableton Live.
Please share with sounds data?
Do you know what the difference between the cz1 and cz5000 is? Great sounds btw.
Much as I remember CZ5000 has a built-in 8 track sequencer + an expanded waveform memory, which the CZ1 does not .

How do I get to the first sound on my cz1
Can you share the patches? Just got a CZ last week and would love to reverse engineer a few while I learn the synth.

Also the headphones output is really quiet. Is this also usual?

these are presets ?
Anybody know how to get the first sound ?
CZ is the most "unique" synth, but most people just use presets that don't do justice to its power!
Were can I download this presets? I have one CZ-1.
