To anyone why does not have a dehydrator or don't want to open dry those seaweed chips, you can use your oven (better to use a convection oven since it has a fan so the drying process is quicker) and put it on 100°C or around 210°F and dehydrate it for 2 hours or more. Keep checking every 15-20 minutes after the 2 hours mark and flip if necessary so that it can dehydrate well. Depending on you oven hotness, decrease the temperature if it starts to brown too fast :) 😊
I thought the oven would work - thanks! Tip: If you don't have a convection oven, use a wooden spoon to prevent the oven from closing completely. This lets out some of the moisture.
in the south of India we make something very similar using rice paste. we call it Arisi vadam. Arisi means rice, vadam means fryums. we add chilli's flakes and salt to the paste while it's cooking itself. my grandma used to make me dry them in the sun. we had to run and get it before it rained. you brought fond childhood memories back. thank you for reminding we are all connected.
I finally made this today! I get 16 gim-bugaks from the same amount rice paste. As I don't have dehydrator every piece got sun-dried. It's so good that I don't need to even care about storing😁 I'll eat them up!! Thanks for your recipe Maangchi! The only tip for those who try this recipe: If you like gim, the seaweed, then about a dozen of bugaks will never be enough for you. (I'm regretting making just 16 bugaks) Try double amount of all ingredients.
I just had a stroke 6 months ago and found your channel. You make my day I love watching you, when I get better I can't wait to try this recipes. Thanks for being so wonderful and loving.
just a tip for those without a dehydrator ^^ set the oven to 60°C and leave whatever you are drying in there for a couple of hours or over night depending on what it is (remember to check on it) it will give you that sun dried effect 🌞
I’m wondering who’s the first person who created this recipe??!!! It’s took him too much imagination and creativity to come up with this… Looks delicious 😋

Maangchi is such a beautiful person, her wonderful personality, her heartfelt stories about her life and travels. This is where I love coming by to see something new and exciting. Thank you Maangchi for all that you give to all of us.
Hi! I love your recipes and videos! One thing that’s interesting now how Korean food is similar to Indian food in the materials used. In west part of India, Gujarat, we made something called Khichiya or Gujarati Papdi no lot…this also used rice flour that’s been cooked/steamed and it’s rolled out and dried. You can cook it over a flame like you did or fry it (you’re right, frying them tastes best lol). Very interesting how some foods might be made differently across cultures but still have the same style and ingredients!
I have been watching a couple of your videos.. planing to make your red been buns , Your teach with patience and willing to share the best you know .. you are a beautiful teacher. Wishing you lots of success

I made it and its a big success! instead fry it with big shape like that, I cut it into smaller pieces, it curl when I fry it but still so delicious, the whole batch instantly gone!
You explain in detail, flawless English. My son is studying in Korea, so whenever he talks about any dish, I try it at home, refering your demo. Spinach is my favourite.
Using your recipe and made 15pcs and sun-dried it for 3days as weather up & down. After frying in oil, it was so delicious...future shall use lesser salt due to the saltiness of the seaweed
Hi, the dehydrator and room temperature dry for 30 hours are the same way you make it dry right. The difference is that in dehydrator are the shortest time to let it dry and room temperature are the longest hour to let it dry right. It look so yummy. I love it.
literally just saw you on tv (Lucky Chow) I have a new admiration for you. you were teaching the American adopted Korean chef how to cook. I loved it. I was so excited you were on tv but to see how great you were with her really touched my heart. 💜💜💜
Oh you watched it. Thank you so much for your nice message here! My TH-cam viewers are so special to me because they really cook delicious food and share it with their loved one. Welcome to my cooking channel! : )
Those look amazing!!!! I may have to get a dehydrator .... I live in South Carolina USA and it is always so humid.... they would take 2 weeks to dry out LOL...... but these really have me intrigued.... knowing the flavors of all the ingredients, I can taste them with my imagination. Thank you!
MAANGCHI, WITH ALL THE POLITICS GOING ON IN 2020 YOU ARE MY REFUGE! I WATCH YOU AND EVERYTHING MELTS AWAY....THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR ENERGY AND DELICIOUS RECIPES!
Maangchi! I recently saw your book displayed at the amazon bookstore and I don’t know why but I was so happy! I’ve been watching your videos for so long and it was heartwarming to see your cookbook! Love your videos!!!!!
Marvelous, this is cookery at its prime - a 5 ingredient dish (if you count the water and pepper as ingredients!), costs pennies and tastes (probably) fantastic because of the umami from the gim + savory filling from the glutenous rice flour paste...and it's grilled or fried, fantastic!

Maangchi i have followed you for sooo many years & always i watch your videos ALWAYS old and new hehehe...when i go to my church and sit with my korean chinese asian brothers and sisters, they ask me...sister Brenda what have you cooked this week... and i say Maangchi taught me seaweed chips or crispy seaweed noodle rolls and she teach me how to make kimchi etc...they ALL marvel at how much their sister in the Lord has learnt their cooking through Maangchi, because i am maori here in New Zealand, by the way if you ever come back here, you are welcome to come and stay in my home Maangchi that is fill with love and asian food everywhere lol...i thank the Lord Jesus i found you all those years ago...much love from Brenda Kara in New Zealand xo
Hi Brenda, I'm very happy to hear that you've learned a lot about Korean cooking from me. Especially this gimbugak (Korean seaweed chips) is not easy to make! Impressive! Brenda, your message reminds me of my trip to Rotorua, New Zealand I made several years ago. I met my reader Mere and we cooked and filmed together. www.maangchi.com/blog/gapshida-rotorua
Maangchi... All your dishes are wonderful, they are some of them that I haven't tried yet. I want to say thank you because of you I learned how to cook Asian food and they are delicious... I hope you will still continue doing what you are doing and to always teach us new dishes.
My TH-cam viewers submitted captions in their own language! Now we have Slovak, Czech, Indonesian, and English captions for this video! Thank you so much!
Hello from Los Angeles! Have you ever thought of making a video just dedicated to showing us what spices and ingredients to have in our kitchen to be able to always make the korean food you make! The essentials that you think we should have :)
Though I don't cook Korean food but I don't miss to watch any one of your videos because I love watching your videos they are like distressing.. It gives me energy
Those look absolutely delicious! I love those seaweed crisps you can buy in Asian grocery stores, and these look like a better version of that :) I love seaweed, it tastes like the ocean.
A very beautiful treat. I doubt i can find this type of seaweed in a local market, but i'd like to make it someday. Thanks you so much for sharing Maangchi.Greetings from California.
Try to make some of it. You will be surprised. Some of it is really easy and amazing. We are vegetarian so we don't make the meat dishes. The veggie dishes are out of this world.
You should give it a try some time :) Her food is so yummy, and a lot of it is easy to make! Just try something with ingredients that are easy to find for you.
so miss with your video maangchi, for me this is new method to make crispy seaweed, usually i make with dry flour that make oil so dirty, but in your method the oil still clean, accidentaly i have all of ingridient....i directly go to kitchen, to make this snack... so daebak my kids very love it.... they call this "kriuk kriuk"
Hi Maangchi! I have never seen this before but it looks like the very best snack food in the world! I will have to make it very soon. Love from Toronto. 😘😘
Thank you, Maangchi! I was always wondering why Gim-bugak snacks in the supermarket are so crunchy and tasty. That's a lot of work to make them at home~
Ciao Maangchi :) You gorgeous magic woman, thanks for sharing your recipes, I love watching your videos and learning new interesting things about your culture and tradition Love from Rome xxx
That's interesting that you depend on your dehydrator so much Maangchi. What else do you use it for? Or do you use it mostly for this dish? Which looks DELICIOUS by the way!!!
My rice cooker, toaster oven and steamer are my favorite kitchen appliances. I can make all kinds of things with just those 3. I can't have much meat due to my health but with those I can make a great and easy meal of baked tofu, rice and steamed veggies.
My... dutch oven and crock pot get it done for me! I do love my electric mixer but busy momma doesn't use that one as often as I should! Mmmm Baked Tofu sounds amazing.
I'm drooling right now! It looks and sounds so delicious. I'm afraid I am not that determined to try this recipe since it needs a lot of effort and care to make. I adore you, Maangchi, for your passion in making food.
A very tasty looking dish. Grandmothers can be great cooks. Your grandmother has taught you a lot. I remember my grandmother's cooking. Both were great cooks. One of them also taught me to make certain dishes and also there were good memories of great food.
I love, love, love gim! I can go through a box of 24 snack paks in 2 weeks. I want to make this so badly but I packed up my dehydrator getting ready to move! Soon though! Lol! I'm moving to North Carolina and this would be perfect to carry while hiking and foraging in the woods!
Just got back from Korea and tried some food that Maangchi made! Bought some ingredients too so I can cook them at home 😊 everything was delicious. I ❤ Korea 😍
After the food dehydrator, put them to the plastic bag. and where to keep them before frying? freezer or room temperature?
Keep them in the freezer.
@@Maangchi Thank you..I made them today, and they were so yummy

Does air fryer work btw??
Whether dehydrator the same function with air fryer machine?
Thank you! I was just thinking I want to make this but I didn’t want to wait a few days. Thanks again!!
I thought the oven would work - thanks!
Tip: If you don't have a convection oven, use a wooden spoon to prevent the oven from closing completely. This lets out some of the moisture.
This looks delectable.

These look sooo delicious....I usually just eat the plain ones straight from the package....These would be good to serve at a party....
Hello from Los Angeles! Have you ever thought of making a video just dedicated to showing us what spices and ingredients to have in our kitchen to be able to always make the korean food you make! The essentials that you think we should have :)
This looks so delicious! I'd love to try and make this for Thanksgiving. I'd have to do it old style so I hope it'll turn out good
this entire channel is nothing but pure, thanks for making my day happier :)
Though I don't cook Korean food but I don't miss to watch any one of your videos because I love watching your videos they are like distressing.. It gives me energy

Thanks a lot for the lovely recipe. What can you do with the left over of the paste? I have a lot!
Make more! : )
This is one of my favorite snacks. I look for them every time I visit Korea. My mouth in watering only by thinking of it 🤤
A very beautiful treat. I doubt i can find this type of seaweed in a local market, but i'd like to make it someday. Thanks you so much for sharing Maangchi.Greetings from California.
These laver bugak reminds me of the puff snacks we used to make when I was little.
Maangchi

Glad... i'm not the only one who does that too!!
Try to make some of it. You will be surprised. Some of it is really easy and amazing. We are vegetarian so we don't make the meat dishes. The veggie dishes are out of this world.

Oh My Gosh! Maangchi, these looks so beautiful and tasty! And also, you can find easily the ingredients! I love these!
Hello maangchi. For how long and how do we store the dried chips before cooking? Love all your videos. I learn so much from you.
This looks so amazing !!!! Thanks for sharing your great recipe ;)
This looks so good. I need to try someday.
That's interesting that you depend on your dehydrator so much Maangchi. What else do you use it for? Or do you use it mostly for this dish? Which looks DELICIOUS by the way!!!
yes, I mostly use it when I make beef jerky, gim-bugak, and Korean rice liquor called makgeolli. www.maangchi.com/recipe/makgeolli
Maangchi thank you you're the best!
Love your positive vibes, Gabriella. Have a great day!
Allison you just made my day gurl!
Those look beautiful and delicious! It's a lot of work too! Thank you for sharing this special recipe.
Hi Maangchi☺️
My rice cooker, toaster oven and steamer are my favorite kitchen appliances. I can make all kinds of things with just those 3. I can't have much meat due to my health but with those I can make a great and easy meal of baked tofu, rice and steamed veggies.
My... dutch oven and crock pot get it done for me! I do love my electric mixer but busy momma doesn't use that one as often as I should! Mmmm Baked Tofu sounds amazing.
I love your food and your smile too, Maangchi.
I'm drooling right now! It looks and sounds so delicious. I'm afraid I am not that determined to try this recipe since it needs a lot of effort and care to make. I adore you, Maangchi, for your passion in making food.
Hwasa made me here, the moment i watched i live alone i searched for the recipe hahaha Thankyou Maangchi~
aisyah27 me too
A very tasty looking dish.
I feel your excitement to make this dish! Let me know how yours turns out when you make this! : )
some ASMR is here. crunchy sound and frying sound make me feel comfort
Maangchi I love you and your recipes!!!! My roommates and I make your dishes all the time!!
Just got back from Korea and tried some food that Maangchi made! Bought some ingredients too so I can cook them at home 😊 everything was delicious. I ❤ Korea 😍
Let me know how yours turns out. Check out the written recipe and follow the step by step directions. Good luck! www.maangchi.com/recipe/gim-bugak
