    Halo 4 is what happens when a publisher demands a franchise continue when no one wants to work on it anymore. There's nothing found in it that has an ounce of creative passion. The game feels like a trailer that lasts too long.

      They did that with AssCreed as well. They built up Juno as the main big villain since AC3, but then silently and secretly killed her off in a comic a few years ago.

      @Melissa Waterman The explanation is his body fell into the composer as he was dying so it just "composed" his body and sent him to the Forerunner domain. It made sense, but setting him up as the new villain, killing him offscreen in a comic, and making a character who who had a meaningful death in the story to become the villain was stupid as hell.

      @@koichidignitythief7429 Long story short, there is no cohesive modern day story. It was gonna be some shit about Shaun & Rebecca stopping Juno, but that idea was killed off after Syndicate. Then Layla Hassan, a super unlikable replacement to Desmond, started being the modern protagonist… and now Ubisoft threw her mind into a precursor machine to do “calculations” with the ghost of Desmond. Whatever that’s supposed to mean. And now Ubisoft decided to scrap everything and turn AssCreed into a live service game called “Assassin’s Creed Infinity”, where they will stop releasing outright annual sequels and just periodically send DLCs and updates to Infinity.

After they failed in there fight to The Forerunners they got turned into dust. They had planned to reform themselves at a later date. But the dust got corrupted with age. Eventually original humanity found them and not knowing the dust was actually alien remains took them, studied them, and determined that it was editable with no ill effects. So it became pet food. Not even joking original humanity fed Precursor remains to their pets.
      Over time the dust corrupted the pets making them grow pods on there body, weird veins, and cause birth defects among other things. Eventually it jumped the species barrier and became airborne as well liquid infectious if a pet bit a human. In time this started the origins of The Flood. Eventually it got out of hand causing humanity to fight against the now Flood as we know them.
      At some point humanity started going into Forerunner space trying to run but refused to just tell The Forerunners that hey your old enemy are now parasitic fungus zombies. Kinda our fault by accident and now we're running away. Could you help us. Humans get wiped out and rest. Forerunners celebrate. Forerunners then realize why humanity was hostile. Then starts the Halo series as we know it.
      The Flood are completely sentient, aware of what they're doing, and choose to be and do what they do out of disgust and anger at all the other species in the galaxy. Halo 3's last level shows this when The Gravemind shows that they are capable of conversation and don't have to infect, turn, can work with other species, and corrupt everything. They just choose to. The Gravemind btw is the collective consciousness of The Precursors compiled into one. The Precursors are effectively immortal in their new form unless all Flood down to the last spore is destroyed.

    one thing you forgot to mention is that at 13:54. Librarian mentions that the flood can only assimilate organics. yet LITERALLY its established ingame that the flood has a "logic plague" which is a way of infecting machines to basically mind-control them and assimilate them to their cause. Hence how the Gravemind was able to torture Cortana up until chief saved her in H2 and how it took control and of the Catalog forrunner in the cutscene where Chief and Arbiter meet GM face to face. the guys arent even paying attention to their own lore. just making stuff up as they go to keep giving you bad guys to shoot.

    • @pyrosianheir
      @pyrosianheir 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Right, but those machines wouldn't be "assimilated." In this, Assimilation is what happens when you get infected by the Spores. While that virus can turn machines to their cause, any AI that they infected would simply Join the Flood. Not become them.
      I won't disagree if you say that that's a nit-pick; it is a fine line to walk on their (343's) part. But it is a difference in how the Flood effect organic vs technologic beings.

    • @mehdirmy4578
      @mehdirmy4578 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right but here's the thing , infecting a digitized entity with the logic plague isn't the same as infecting an organism ,the logic plague takes time to actually infect an AI , according to the books the primordial took hundreds of years to fully infect Mendicant Bias
      Even though technically the Prometheans aren't totally safe from the flood they can still fight it head on with out getting infected and their chances of not getting infected are really high

    9:26 - Here's the thing about that "last living Spartan 2" bit. One - the books had long ago set up that Chief wasn't the last Spartan 2. His whole squad that he grew up with was still kicking around, as were a good number of Spartan 3s. Two - The Spartan 2s are just built different than the Spartan 4s. Being trained from child-hood for it makes you a step above most all of those in the 3 and 4 program. There are occasional exceptions that can keep up - Noble 6 from Reach probably could have - but the 2s had a whole host of genetic and hardware enhancements that the later versions don't get.
    And even disregarding that, Chief is special for one simple reason - who he is, his personality, earned him Cortana. Halsey gave literally herself to Chief because he's unique in personality among the 2s, which is still true heading into Infinite.

    • @DarkCobra88

      The books might have set this up but the average player didn't go into the books unless they was really into the series and the series made a point of chief being the only remaining sparten in the early games, thus this to several players would feel out of place, which it did as me and my friends at the time all was confused by this and assumed 343 was just doing anything to make the game work how they wanted it, we obviously didn't read the books but never felt we had to invest in reading books to follow a story we didn't know we had to read books to follow.

      Its not entirely a Retcon from what I know. The original games kept a lot of things deliberately vague because they didn't entirely know where they were going with the forerunners at the time and there are actually things that tie in better with the current canon from the original games than would have tied in with some of the older, dropped plot threads.

      @@ChairmanKam The stuff with Harvest was that the covenant thought that the Humans on the world were artifacts but then realized they mistranslated and the term for what they actually were was "reclaimers". I don't recall anything about them actually thinking they were literal forerunners and the reason Truth covered it up was because he worried Humans would supplant the heirarchs within the covenant and undermine the whole narrative that the covenant were the ones who were the reclaimers of the Forerunners legacy. Even if they did think Humans were actual forerunners though, that still doesnt mean that that doesn't fit with the 343 additions because the Covenant could have just misinterpreted things again, just like how they misinterpreted humans being artifacts rather than reclaimers.
      As for 343 guilty spark. You will recall that in Halo 1, he has a conversation with chief in which he says something to the effect of "we talked about this the last time as well and we both concluded that firing the rings was the only way to stop the flood. Why would you change your mind now?"
      Spark, in his rampant state here, can be said to be mistaking chief for the ISO Didact, who was the one to fire the rings in the 343 canon. And the reason this works is because the Iso didact effectively transferred his essence into a human form and chief is a modern day descendant of the iso didact who carries the Gease of the iso didact, which is why Spark in his madness is talking to John as if they know each other, because Spark can see that cheif carries the iso didact's Gease. The same can be said of the end to Halo 3. Spark said Chief is a forerunner because chief kinda is a forerunner. He is a modern incarnation of the Iso didact (which is part of the reason why he was also an ideal candidate for the spartan program. he was more than simply a baseline human)

Not gonna act like there was nothing between him and Cortana or Johnson but at the end of the day it was very subtle and the subtlety was something I appreciated. It’s why the only part of Halo 4 that I enjoyed was the last cutscene where commander Lasky was talking to chief. Somewhere in that conversation Lasky seemed to finally get it! He says; “You don’t talk much do you!”. Yeah that’s kinda what OG fans grew up with! Now it seems they’re trying to get Chief and Cortana to somehow get into a digital bed with each other smh. 5:17 the reason why is because Dr. Halsey illegally flash cloned her brain and created Cortana. Flash cloning an AI can only be done from either a dead host or if the person themselves perform the process, which is illegal. However because Halsey didn't back up Cortana, this would mean that if Halsey does the same process, she would be basically making a new Cortana without any memory from the previous Halo games (keep in mind that Halsey was arrested during the events of the Halo trilogy and ONI just put her in a box, completely isolated from her Spartans and her work). It's comparable to getting a new phone without transferring all the data from your old phone; a factory reset Cortana without any memory or connection to John aside from what Halsey knew about him.
    9:21 Edward Buck would like to have a word with you about that. A UNSC soldier turned ODST and later a Spartan IV, how does he NOT have the qualifications befitting of a Spartan? There's also a thing called progression. Spartan II test subjects were kidnapped children, and because they were still developing, they were molded into super soldiers. Spartan III follows a similar concept, but comprises of orphans that underwent the process as a form of taking revenge for the families they lost. Now despite Spartan IV being a step down in quality from the previous programs, given that it comprises of volunteering soldiers that already have a military background, what truly got them in were their qualifications, which is what Edward Buck has. Now i will concede that i barely know anything about Palmer, but the fact that she qualifies still has to carry some meaning, and i do wish that was explored in the later games and not strictly from the comics.
    10:05 yeah, preach, even i have to agree that they are impossible to please. However this is the question: what is the sin here? If you're gonna sin the game, sin the game. Don't sin characterization unless the game itself performs character assassination that conflicts with the character's growth that has been established, which does NOT happen in this scene. Also there is an unspoken rule that remains consistent throughout the Halo series (not in EVERY Halo game, but still consistent): John NEVER takes off his helmet until the mission is complete or if his armor has to be changed and reconfigured.
    17:28 two words: blast radius. You have to consider the possibility that the nuke's megaton yield may not have the blast radius necessary to cover the Didact's ship AND the Composer, which is why John was advancing as close as possible to the accurate location of the Composer so that he can deploy the nuke at the DEAD CENTER, to ensure its total destruction. Even with Cortana's "Just one of those will pop this station like a piñata." Quote, it still helps to ensure the target's total destruction by blowing it up at the dead center or as close as possible for a tactical explosion.

      SPARTAN project was ... well, was rather *unethical* to put it blunt as SPARTAN-IV was kinda ignoring that the project roots and just "clean it".
      Under Bungie had some very nasty things in HALO, United Earth was far from clean (SPARTAN and ORION were created to fight human insurgents, not the Covenant) that gave credence to the world, being a SPARTAN was not a good thing because that mean you were effectively a child kidnapped to be raised to be a solider and Halsey did that with ONI knowing damn well how the project worked, hell the difference of SPARTAN-II and III in terms of candidates was that in III the children were orphans and SPARTAN-III was just the more "cost effective" variant to use against the Covenant, not better one.
      Edward Buck to been a SPARTAN would had to been kidnapped because I check, he is about the same age as Master Chief so he didnt qualify for the SPARTAN-II project.

ONI has contingencies in place to genocide the Sangheili race and are even trying to provoke war with them (like sending Locke to assassinate Thel Vadam).
      The reason children were used in the Spartan II and III projects was due to the transformation itself being drastic and experimental. The idea being that it would be easier to mold children into their experimental super soldiers was easier. After half a decade creating supersoldiers from children, they had the experience to successfully perform the augmentation on adults that didn't have the genetic qualifications they needed prior. I realize this comment is kinda pointless due to the nature of how sins videos work (and even knowing that I still like them) but you finally played a game I've actually played before and know some things about, so to clarify some of your sins:
    The Didact wasn't supposed to be kept alive in his genocidal state. In the terminals in game, you see that the librarian imprisoned the Didact in the Kriptum for 10,000 years because she wanted to use the Domain to try to heal his madness (he was affected by a version of the logic plague that the flood uses to corrupt artificial intelligences) and turn him back into the more upstanding and enlightened man he was before the Forerunner-flood war (as we also see in the terminals, in the Human-Forerunner war, the Didact was actually anti-genocide against the humans while the Librarian was more pro-genocide). The only problem with the Librarian's plan, which she discovered too late, was that the Domain relies on neural physics to operate (e.g. its alive after a fashion) and is susceptible to being damaged by the Halo rings firing (think putting a magnet to a hard drive). The result was that not only did the Didact not get healed by the domain, but he was effectively left to stew with his own madness in solitary confinement for thousands of years.
    I'm pretty sure Cortana doing her thing on visual screens rather than "in her head" is for the viewers benefit rather than necessarily an accurate representation of how AIs in the Halo universe work
    The Elites are a large species, so if anything, it adds more depth for there to be differing factions (like the storm covenant or whatever they are called) that view their place in the covenant differently. Had all elites been on the same page about everything, I'm sure you'd call them out for being a one dimensional faction/race.
    combat is subjective, but I've always found it better to use heavy damage weapons (like sniper rifles, shotguns, energy swords, explosive based weapons and sticky grenades) against the tankier enemies while using normal weapons/melee against pretty much anything else
    Spartans can survive falls from orbit, but you don't want to rely on that method if you don't have to
    I assume the Didacts end game is to try to rebuild the forerunners. He was kinda obsessed with finding a way to not use the Halo Rings and preserve the Forerunner's hold on the galaxy throughout the Forerunner-flood war. Failing that, the logic plague has turned him into a mad, ego maniacal narcissist. He's not exactly in his right mind or thinking in a wholly rational or sound fashion
    There being new Spartans isnt really a problem for the story. If anything, if they didn't make more spartans, I guarantee, you and everyone else would be saying something to the effect of "If spartans were so awesome and effective, why did the UNSC never try to make more of them? Yeah the original batch were kidnapped and subjected to tortuous bodily upgrades and training which might make it problematic to revive the program, but surely there would be humans willing to volunteer for this process and surely they would have found a way to streamline the process and make it safer after all this time". In any case, chief is by no means no longer unique anymore because of this. He is a very different breed of spartan from the newer ones and implied to be infinitely more capable than them.
    The particle cannons that you have to destroy in order to make way for the Infinity to escape weren't there when the Infinity first arrived. They were set up by the covenant after they gained access into the shield world while the Infinity was crashed on the surface.
    When the librarian said Humanity was the biggest threat to the forerunners, its in the sense that, given the chance, Humanity would have surpassed the forerunners technologically, culturally, etc, and possibly have found a way to defeat the flood where the forerunners failed. Hence why some Forerunners wanted to wipe Humanity out.
    The Flood are not a natural organic life form. They are a corrupted manifestation of the Precursors, who were trans-sentient beings leagues and leagues more advanced than the Forerunners. As mentioned above, the flood could corrupt AIs with the logic plague, and the Precursors were actually the ones to make the domain which the composer transfers data to, so overall, trying to use the composer on the flood doesnt sound like a great idea
    It may not be very in character for chief to directly disobey orders, but to be fair, he's more often than not operated independently where he hasn't had a higher commander to micro-manage him
    Nukes cause a lot of damage but the Didact's ship is huge. It does require some thought about where to place the nuke in order to damaged the ship in the most effective way possible

      @@blueripper1558 I mean, there was only a fairly short part of the Halo timeline where chief was one of the only spartans left alive. The games only really cover a fairly narrow view of the Halo universe and there were plenty of spartan 2s and 3s doing stuff off screen in the wider Halo lore out there. So its only relatively rarely that chief has been the only one doing stuff. Even then, I'd argue that the series has been more about chief always managing to be in the right place at the right time to do what needed doing than him being the only one that could do it (like what Cortana says about chief being lucky at the start of Halo 3). Granted, it might have been cool to see the other spartans playing a role in the story, but then people would have been complaining that they were stealing chief's spotlight (which they still complained about once 5 came out, though that game is a whole other issue) and this game was sorta meant to be a last hurrah for chief before they started to de-centralize chief's role in the games a little bit and give new spartans a place in the story.
      I'd argue that everyone hated spartans because of the way ONI went about making them, not because there was anything inherently bad about them. And I'd think that if the government was more transparent about the spartans and as everyone realized just how pivotal Spartans were to Humanity's survival, there'd be a lot less opposition to people being allowed to volunteer for the Spartan program, even if there were still major potential side effects/death involved.

      That is besides the fact that just because some new advance is made, that doesn't always mean that the old thing disappears. Spartans are expensive and take a lot to train to full effectiveness after all. ODSTs will always present a less costly and difficult to train intermediary between full on spartans and regular ground troops for special missions. It would be like saying, because we have navy seals, we don't need US Army Rangers anymore.

    • @SentinelEnforcer

      I really don't get why people say Halo 4 had a good story. The storm covenant were literally explained in a throwaway line "A lot can happen in 5 years." It was a pitiful excuse to have us fighting covenant again. The Didact's whole purpose in Halo 4 was to be a stereotypical villain who just monologues the entire game. He's then defeated in a QTE event to further adds to him being a joke as an antagonist. Later he's just written off in a comic.
      The forerunner retcon having them be a completely separate race from humanity. Halo 3 both Gravemind and Guilty Spark refer to humans as children of the forerunners. Contact Harvest which was written by Joseph Staten at the time of Halo 3 straight up stated the human forerunner connection.
      Also those forerunner trilogy books that 343 fans always reference were written long after Halo 3, and bungie was already in the process of leaving microsoft at that point. Again it's a straight up retcon that feels completely jarring going from Halo 3 to 4.
      The rest of the story felt like bad fanfiction. Captain del Rio was a complete throwaway character who's sole purpose was to yell at chief for a cutscene. Every mission repeated the same story beat of: Cortana acts emotionally unstable, Chief says "Don't worry we'll get you fixed". Repeat ad nauseam for every single mission. And don't even get me started on the finale scene with Cortana. Chief detonates a nuclear warhead *in his hands* and survives because of a light shield? That nuke obliterated the didacts ship and Chief survives without a scratch? The whole story was just absurd. And top that off with the absolute trainwreck of a sequel Halo 5.

    • @ManuCarrotman312
      @ManuCarrotman312 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SentinelEnforcer Okay. You don't have to like Halo 4. I got good friends who dislike it. But here's how it goes. I'm not a hardcore Halo lore fan. I don't read the books or anything. And to be honest, complaining about a game retconning what a book established seems kinda stupid to me on a franchise where games are the main focus. Game lore > Book lore any day. Same thing happened with Reach.
      As for the Covenant, honestly I agree it's somewhat jarring to not get explained about them, closes thing is finding out more of this faction in Spartan Ops. I feel as though there should've been some exposition about it when you meet Lasky and company, and with how vast the Covenant was it does make sense there's a faction that still believes on the Prophets' lies and want to kill humans.
      Didact, well, he is kind of a one note villain but eh. The QTE at the end is stupid and having him survive at the end only to kill him off in a book was stupid but the time between H4 and H5 I feel 343 went too far on expanded universe, which is one of the reasons H5 was so disappointing, since a casual gamer who doesn't look at the expanded universe wouldn't know who Locke, Tanaka or Vale were, wouldn't know why is Buck a Spartan now and heck they wouldn't even know who Blue Team are and where have they been all this time. But I feel like that isn't actually H4's mistake so it's jumping the gun.
      Also I still get feels everytime I watch the H4 Ending. From Cortana's farewell to the moment Chief removes his helmet, to me that's the best ending sequence out of any Halo game, only comparable to H3.
      Overall, Halo 4 is far from perfect, personally I feel its biggest flaw however was the massive and sudden artstyle shift wich in some cases makes zero sense. Most people I see hating on it however just bash by calling it garbage because it's not like the OG trilogy (which wasn't meant to be, I personally embrace a deeper story and giving Chief some actual character development) and leave it at that which doesn't really justify the argument so I actually appreciate someone giving some actual reasoning. But I still think it's actually pretty good all things considered. Feel free to disagree though, overall it comes down to opinions, just try to avoid saying it's objectively bad because there's obviously a good amount of people who like it so it's obviously not.

    • @SentinelEnforcer
      @SentinelEnforcer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "I don't read the books or anything. And to be honest, complaining about a game retconning what a book established seems kinda stupid to me on a franchise where games are the main focus."
      That wasn't my main argument though. Even disregarding the books both Guilty Spark and Gravemind make the correlation between Humans and the Forerunners several times.
      "A record of all of *our* lost time. Human history is it?"
      "Child of my enemy why have you come? I offer no forgiveness. A father's sins passed to his son."
      "You are the child of my makers. Inheritor of all they left behind. *You are forerunner.* "
      Again its so jarring going from Halo 3 to 4 because the forerunners being a separate race comes completely out of nowhere. It doesn't feel like a consistent universe going from Halo 3 to 4.
      Yeah you're right storm covenant should've had a quick exposition blurb from Lasky during the main campaign instead of keeping that information exclusively in spartan ops. Which people didn't have access to back then if you did not have Xbox Gold membership.
      "Also I still get feels everytime I watch the H4 Ending." I really can't get that same feeling because of the absurdity of what happens beforehand. With how everything was set up Chief for all intents should've died. He detonates a nuclear warhead while having direct contact and survives without a scratch. Yeah Cortana shields him but it doesn't make the scene less preposterous. We see smoldering wreck of the Didact's ship but Chief gets off essentially without a scratch? That's really getting into the fanfiction levels of writing which I can't get behind.
      Another overall issue with the story is the complete tonal shift. People say Chief wasn't much of a character in Bungie's games but he was. He had a reserved demeanor which is a personality trait in of itself. He never spoke during gameplay. He had the occasional quirky sarcastic one-liners letting a bit of his humanity show through. We see in cutscenes Chief emote through body language. Like watch the scenes of Johnson's and Miranda's deaths. They were so beautifully crafted with Chief barely having to say a word. Again it's so jarring going from halo 3 to 4. Chief doesn't feel like the same Character. Cortana doesn't feel like the same Character. Halo 4 doesn't feel like a sequel to Halo 3. It feels like a reboot set in an alternate universe.
      "just try to avoid saying it's objectively bad because there's obviously a good amount of people who like it so it's obviously not."
      I greatly disagree with that sentiment. Just because a lot of people like something doesn't prove if it's objectively good or bad. A lot of people liked the Last Jedi despite the fan backlash. A lot of people liked to go see the transformers movies despite them being objectively bad.
      In Halo 4's case it's still an extremely controversial topic unlike Halo 5 where it's universally hated. Even in Halo bubbles such as the Halo subreddit or Halo youtube Channels a solid chunk of people argue about Halo 4's ...quality. There's a reason why critical videos on 343 gain hundreds of thousands of views, even a million views. There's still a sizable amount of people who disliked what 343 have done with the franchise Halo 4 included. Heck I've even heard rumors that the reason why 343 did a complete 180 on the Halo 5 narrative was because of the backlash to Halo 4's story.
