    Welcome back-ish. From the initial clip I thought you were going to say you bought a CRF300l 😅 Hoping to ride down through Portugal and visit the Douro in April. Will call into Diogo for some training/touring if plans allow too

      Thank you! Hehe, well, the CRF with proper suspension would be awesome too, would do everything the PR7 can at half the price, but there is something very exotic about this Portuguese stallion 😁 Definitely suggest linking up with Diogo, some offroad training and a dinner at "Los Torricados" at night with porko preto and red wine, sounds like a perfect day!

    Hi Johannes, time to subscribe now that we are riding the same bike, haha. The order of my bikes was R1200GS, r1200gsa, f850gsa, Tuareg 660. And since 5 months the AJP. I think you can spot a tendency here. Been riding bikes for a long time, the dealer was kind enough to let me take the AJP out for a whole day, also some serious offroad sections. I came back and had to conclude that it was probably the best day of pure riding that I had done in all those years. So I immediately bought the 2023 model, hoping that the little problems from earlier years are solved. So far nothing but a great time on it, no cold start problems or anything. Curious to hear how you will like it, will follow your experiences!

      Hello there! That's awesome, can definitely see a trend in your bike choices. Are you norwegian too?

      @@JohannesDalen Hi, no from Holland, but love the Scandinavian countries for riding in the summer. Now still only at 2500km, had the 1000 service and did some harder riding after that, but our country is pretty much flooded from the non-stop rain the last two months. So not many more kilometers lately. But the bike has been great, no problems whatsoever. Little things: I am not a big fan of the seemingly very thin kickstand, but I heard that they are coming out with a more sturdy one. There was also a tip I got about the fast wearing aluminum wheel spacers front and rear. 3dMoto in Poland has better ones, I'm looking into that. O, and the filling of the tank takes some getting used to, but if you fill it slowly no problems. Riding offroad has been great, even in the sand. Coming from the heavier bikes I now feel like Jeffrey Herlings (famous Motocross guy from the Netherlands). Enjoy the bike!

    Stoked for you man. There was a PR7 up for sale a few hours from me a while ago and I always kept coming back and looking at it. It really seems like a unicorn bike but I have the same worries as others in terms of parts support. Especially being in the US.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!
      Hopefully I can shed some light on the ownership side with this bike. Only one unit so it isn't statistically representable, but if I have to deal with the factory that can be valuable.
      Can you get it street legal in the states?

    • @Michael_Shay
      @Michael_Shay ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohannesDalen I think it helps even if it's only one unit. Unfortunately a lot of reliability/parts information is seemingly anecdotal anyways. You don't know if that one guy who always says "KTM is trash" just had a ktm that he didn't maintain 10 years ago or if it's legit.
      As far as I know, street legality in the US is very state dependent. I know the one for sale in my state was street legal but my state also isn't very strict on street legality. I think the PR7 is street legal nationwide though but I'm not 100% confident. I know a lot of people are able to street legalize the Koves these days so I'd imagine the PR7 has no issues. I think a harder problem is finding insurance for it since they're so rare.

    My friend Pavlin went to the factory a couple times. It is a very impressive machine. Some long test rides shows to me it is a unknown machine of value and use much above many others on the market. You will love this on the TET and other trail systems ae well as a touring mount. A lot of possibilities there. Now for winter to end.

    Almost back to the 701. I'm thinking PR7 also, but... a Kove 450 is cheaper than a second hand PR7.. hard thing.

    • @gbner9991
      @gbner9991 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the Kove will be a little slow on the road, tbe bike looks much faster than it probably is

    • @johannescarlsson4559
      @johannescarlsson4559 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @gbner9991 it's 450 Enduro fast. Still 42hp on the smogged euro 5 version so it will be similar to a KTM 390, just much lighter.
      Still the PR7 has about 50% more torque and comfier seat. Both great 👍 just different scale sort of.

    • @gbner9991
      @gbner9991 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johannescarlsson4559 I think for European conditions the 450 will be too offroad-focused. I found that on the few ADV rides I have done that there will still be huge amounts of asphalt and it sucks to do it on a bike that's too offroad focused. For me I would only get another single cylinder bike if I could bring it in a van or trailer.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  ปีที่แล้ว

      What I did "wrong" with my 701 ownership was thinking it could fill all my motorcycle needs, which it obviously couldn't, and the PR7 can't either. as Gbner9991 says, thumpers are too offroad focused for European conditions. I have a road bike as well that will cover 80% of my motorcycle needs. The PR7 will be trailered.
      I haven't paid much attention lately, but as far as I know the Kove won't be available here in Norway anytime soon.

    • @johannescarlsson4559
      @johannescarlsson4559 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Kove is Euro 5 compliant now. Deliveries already started, with batches on the way.
      I haven't tested it, but reviews say it's better comfort on the road than the 701. So might be on pair with the PR7. A bit less torque but vibrations seem good. It's the NC450 base engine, same as RX4 and Caballero 500.
      Touring on a single is ok, just need to manage expectations. I want to try the Kove 800x also. 20kg less than the T7 is welcome

    Hey Johannes
    Congratulations on your new bike! 🙌 looking forward to seeing this beauty in action! 😍
    you said you are going to the balkans and take the AJP with a trailer. I would suggest you to consider using a van/bus. Otherwise you will be on the road for ages! In some countries you can only go 80-100km/h with a trailer. And you also have to pay extra fees for it when driving on the highway. Parking can also be a hassle. - depends where you are staying at.
    One off topic question: what do you think about the new BMW F900 GS? 🤤 are you going to test ride it?

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello my friend and thank you!
      Good point regarding the trailer, I'll look into the prices of renting a van. I've already started to save for this trip, better to have cash at hand instead of a huge credit card bill once I get back 😅
      The new f900 looks really cool, I will test ride it as soon as the opportunity comes, the new GS as well!
      Are you still happy with your T7?

    • @wanderlustadventures8850
      @wanderlustadventures8850 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohannesDalen that sounds great 😊 the GS looks amazing! Would love to hear your opinion on that bike.
      i think you will love spending time riding the balkans! Great food, nice people and pretty affordable compared to a lot of other places in Europe. Just make sure you take all the documents from your bike. (I don’t know if you have the same in norway, but at the border they will ask for the „green document“). This is the proof that your bike is yours and also insured internationally. - i was driving with my car through slovenia-croatia-serbia a few years ago and this was the first thing that they asked me at the border.
      Yeah i still have the T7 and will keep it 😊 just ordered some new tires (Dunlop trailmax raid and i’m excited to see how they perform)
      i have to be honest though, from time to time i would like to have another smaller bike. Like a 250-350cc just to have some fun on the road. Maybe someday when I've saved enough money. 😂🙈

Great bike! Almost perfect out of the box. The only reasons i didn't get one was that i sometimes like to take the wife with me as a pillion ( short rides only), and didn't feel like there was enough room for my boots. The T7 is gone, which I'll address somewhere down the line. Great bike that can do everything, but I've opted for a more street oriented bike to go along with the PR7, so I can take my son or wife as pillion on a bike with proper street tires and electronics that increase safety. Bringing someone on the back of an offroad specced T7 with mx tires didn't sound like the best idea.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very good question!
      Short answer, I don't. The PR7 is less aggressive than the 701, but it's still a thumper with offroad in mind, so it will be just as uncomfortable on the road.
      The sole reason why I'm revisiting this platform is because I now also have a street-oriented adventure bike in my garage, the "mystery" bike I've been referring to in the latest videos. I will explain in detail in a future video, but that bike does 80% of the riding I do on a day to day basis. My biggest mistake with the 701 was expecting it to be a bike that could do it all.

    awesome. I'm sure you'll love it. It was my unicorn bike, but i sold it with about 500 miles on it. Turns out, it wasn't 'my' unicorn bike. It's a large thumper, and i struggled with the abrupt throttle response, decel, and accel. That's strictly a personal problem, lol, as I think it's a characteristic of large thumpers in general. Also, i'm ok in the dirt, but really new on the streets, and the tall seat height (and jerky throttle) just made me nervous as hell. Let's just say it wasn't 'confidence inspiring' to me. or for me. I also don't live in an area really suited to this type of bike, with limited off-road riding. I think long forest roads, or mountain trails, it's probably great. I am excited 1. to see you back, and 2. to see what you think of the bike. I also love Portugal, and loved having a Portuguese/boutique bike. Service... well, even in the big State of Texas, there are (or were, haven't checked lately) available. That's exactly the same way I felt with my 701. Jerky, nervous throttle, terrible fueling.. Not only the bikes fault though, as the Euro4 version (I had Euro5) is supposed to be much smoother.
      What year was your PR7? I've read the pre 2021 models struggled with abrupt throttle response and bad fueling, but the 2022 and newer are much better. However, as you say, it's a characteristic of a large thumper.

    Just add the opinion of the owner from Poland:
    I honestly advise you to avoid the AJP brand. Unfortunately, we have it in the garage and the quality is APPROPRIATE. In addition, there are a number of terrible design defects. The motorcycle is often unable to return from trips on its own, and all this before the warranty expires. It's a pity because it drives very nice. model spr240. Components made by external companies, such as the Acerbis tank, the Zongshen engine, and suspension elements such as the brakes and shock absorber, are OK, but what AJP designed has a number of design flaws. The rocker has no bearing seals (replacement after 3 months from purchase), incorrectly selected swing arm travel, which causes the wheel to hit the fender/tank. The swing arm has a stroke of 30 cm, but there is only 26 cm of space for the wheel. To replace the rocker bearings, you have to completely disassemble the frame (unscrew the aluminum side frame elements). The frame can unscrew while driving, which is extremely dangerous. Problems with the fuel system which was unable to supply fuel to the carburetor. Welded elements fall apart at the welds, and those made of solid metal break. These are just a few problems... Overall, the bike runs great, we were as delighted as you with the pr7 in the initial phase, but as we continue, there are more and more problems that we have never had, even if we add up several of our motorcycles together (t7, crfl, xrl and chinese). . Pr7, if you read/watch the owners' experiences, they have similar opinions. Most users sell this "unikorn" after 20,000 km because they do not have the strength to continue fighting. It would be really great if AJP dealt with these problems, because the idea itself is very good.

      Thanks a lot for sharing, I've never heard or read about any of these issues, but I will keep my eyes open and report back.

    Nike bike, it's also been on my radar but never had the chance to give one a ride, not very common here in AUS.

      Thanks! I don't think it is common anywhere, hehe, but I have read several times about the "Australian PR7 forum", and I thought the PR7 was somewhat known down under.

      These problems were only with the pre 21 models and are now sorted on the later models
      I own a 2017 model which did suffer from fuelling and starting issues but now runs beautifully with the installation of an Australian developed ECU 👍

    Gratulerer Johannes. Har også en 21. PR7 her på Øvre Romerike.
    Moddet med omrouting av eksos for å senke fothvilere. Er 190cm.
    Også fuel relay mod og Quantum pumpe. Har hatt 1 sesong med den og den går fint. Forøvrig mitt første år med grus.

      Ja men så gøy da gitt, så ikke for meg at det var særlig mange andre PR7-eiere her til lands. Omruting av eksos ja, interessant, kan definitivt skjønne hvorfor - hvordan gjorde du dette, kjøpt kit eller ordnet selv? Og hvorfor fuel relay? Pumpa skjønner jeg forsvåvidt, har hørt litt forskjellige tilbakemeldinger på den..
      Gøy å høre fra deg!

      I need to ride the 701 again first, when I owned it myself I was only able to push it to 5% of its capability, now I'd be able to push it to at least 7! 😆

    AJP seems much more trustworthy than kove or even KTM, though thats admittedly a very low bar to clear.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think we've all heard the horror stories with KTM. With Kove I hope they continue on the path they're on - I like how the addressed the issued they had during Dakar. They seem open and willing to help.
      With AJP I've heard many positive things, where people have gotten help directly from the Factory in Portugal etc. Time will tell, I hope I never need any help, but if I do I will cover it here on my channel.
