So, a thing about the soundtrack. Ghost Town by The Specials: It's a British Ska band of the late 1970s. It is often used to represent 1) the black community of London because of it's Jamaican Roots both in music and in immigration culture from the 1940s/1950s, and 2) the down and out blue-collar working community due to England's shift from the industrial market into the service market starting in the late 1970s. The song is about factory towns drying up after the factories close. So, if you are in London and you need to highlight a character intro who is 1) Black (bald is a bonus*), 2) from the lower class, or 3) works a dead-end job, cue Ghost Town from the Specials as your audio motif. *Immigrant Jamaicans were bald as a fashion statement and it became part of their culture. Young, white English men who work side by side with the immigrant would also adopt this look. They would eventually be known as skinheads, the good kind. After the media labeled them as a rival gang, they were forced to stay in groups for safety from the current gangs (mods and teddys). They came from rough neighborhoods and often wore tough boots from work. Also, being from blue-collar working groups, they were avid football fans. (soccer). Skinheads were the original football hooligans. During the class crisis in the late 1970s, skinheads were targeted by England's version of ALT-Right at football games and pubs. Once a few of them went over to the violent side, the press demonized the skinheads as a whole, and they were like "F*ck it. We'll be the bad guys." Ska music tried to bring them together in peace and equality, but the post-punk Oi! movement encouraged slam dancing thus an open invitation to link skinheads with hard punk. Hey bro, I Love your reviews. As a Brit, I feel like you really understand the nuances and quirks of British life (not just from this movie, but others too). You’re obviously a Very smart guy, and you know way more than I do about the tech aspects and terminology around filmmaking, so I learn from watching, too. But with British movies, you really do interpret and understand them like a native would! Awesome! I gotta say, the opening scene from Snatch - from the robbery where they gain entry by dressing as Ultra-Orthodox Jews, to the flowing scene where the main characters are introduced - is just beautiful, SO cool, so slick…… I struggle to describe it! Anyway, respect from the UK, and stay safe, buddy! 🇬🇧🇺🇸👍
There is a 25 minute documentary on TH-cam with Guy Ritchie from a few months back where he rewatches Snatch for the first time in 15 years or so and he goes through a lot of his process back then as a film maker including the confidence he had making this film after the success of Lock Stock. It is definitely worth a watch to see how he drew his editing styles from westerns and such and his directing and writing styles.
Amazing! I believe you are the only TH-camr I have found that have reacted to this movie. Is so nice to listen the perspective from a filmmaker like you about these kind of movies that are not so recent, usually other channels react to movies more recent from the 2010 or newer, is nice you are open to share your opinion about movies that other generation watched in the movie theaters or in TV, specially from the perspective of someone older.
The caravan burning scene marks the point, at least for me, when Snatch goes from a comedy to a drama. The music as well by Massive Attack also adds to the darkness of the scene.
First time watching, great reaction to a great film. “Did he shoot Tony?” The genuine concern for Tony in your voice here cracked me up You definitely have to do Lock, Stock next (if you haven’t already), one of my favourite ever films
Apparently, Brad Pitt based the way his character talked on Benicio Del Toro as Fenster in The Usual Suspects. Obviously not in terms of accent, but in the way that the character is very difficult to understand.
Snatch is a classic. Glad you enjoyed it. For some reason, the camera angles and style remind me of an underrated film called "Three O'Clock High" (1987), which is a black comedy about a kid trying to get out of a fight after school.
Hey James glad you liked it. Lock Stock and two smoking barrels is an underrated Guy Ritchie film. Esp before he went to Hollywood and married madonna. Snatch is his best film in my opinion. Visuals, editing and characters. FYI in modern lingo they are called "travellers." although used in the movie "Pikey" is a derogotive term.
Snatch is in my top 5 favorite movies ever, no question. Literally EVERY SINGLE SCENE in it is FULL of quotable lines - hell, I'd even go as far as guessing that perhaps 2/3rds of ALL the dialogue in Snatch is quotable as hell. Certainly there are more quotabb And my favorite character is Brick Top. Hell, he may well be one of my favorite movie characters, period! If not just for all his hilariously vulgar, and incredibly quotable lines he has right from his first appearance, but also for the comedic contrast of seeing a man like Alan Ford not just playing unhinged psychopath like Brick Top, but also playing him SO CONVINCINGLY! And you can tell, Alan Ford is having SO much fun getting to play such an effed-up character! despite being a skinny, small-statured man in his late 70s with huge poor-eyesight glasses at the time of filming Snatch, managed to carry an absolutely MENACING presence every second he was on film... whenever he's in a scene you just feel terrified for the lives of whoever he's there to see - like damn near ANYTHING could happen to them, 'cos he has most definitely PLENTY capable of DOING anything.
Came here by way of Brandon Likes Movies and I'm not disappointed. I've been binging your reactions and really enjoying them. Keep up the good work my man.
Guy Ritchie's films are soo stylish. The soundtrack, the script, the editing, the clothes.. top notch filmmaker. He's very stylish irl too and there's a running joke that he changes his outfit every 6hrs on set. Lol
"You know: fish, chips, cup 'o tea, bad food, worse weather, Mary fucking Poppins... LONDON." After 20 years it still gets me every time I hear it! 🤣🤣🤣
What I really loved about this movie is how smart and snappy the scenes/editing and writing is with some of the most colorful characters I've seen in British action/comedy/gangster movies and most of them share the grittiness and colorful characters that this one has but this one is quite special. Guy Ritchies movies often prioritize style over substance but Snatch is my favorite of his movies. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is probably a contender with this one when it comes to Brit-gangster movies, featuring Vinnie Jones who played "Bullet-Tooth Tony" in Snatch, the character who had to shoot that guy in the hallway so many times before he died that he ran out of bullets for the second guy and said "You lucky bastard" and walked away. In fact, he's done a ton of characters like this over the years and he sure fits as a kick-ass "no mercy" type of gangster. I HIGHLY recommend a reaction to Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Then you have Boondock Saints that has it's own style which I highly recommend if you haven't seen it yet.
a classic for sure. the editing, use of music, acting and all of that was obviously quite unique at the time, then there's the comedic value, in part a universal one, but particularly those little details that i imagine mostly the brits are able to pick up, especially for those familiar with the 90's london 'scene' guy was a part of... the movie is like a nostalgic return to those awesome times
This is by far one of my top favorite all-time movies! I think during my lifetime so far, i've seen it something like 7 or 8 times and it never feels old.
Next one in the series of these films, is LOCK STOCK AND 2 SMOKING BARRELS its an even better artistically and cinematography is better made movie. GO FOR IT.

Police Officer: "What's in the car?"
Turkish: "Two seats and a steering wheel"
i absolutely love the wit in this movie.
"Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity."
Seriously one of the most genius comedic films of the 20th Century. Everybody nailed their roles.
Dead Mans Shoes
Low budget British Movie
Great acting and lots of suspense and unexpected moments , you really will love it
Good shout!! prob one of the best british movies ever such a dark vibe.
Yeah totally agree Shane meadows is outstanding !!
First time watching, great reaction to a great film.
“Did he shoot Tony?” The genuine concern for Tony in your voice here cracked me up
You definitely have to do Lock, Stock next (if you haven’t already), one of my favourite ever films
"Natural Born Killers", "True Romance" and "Killing Zoe" would definitely stimulate some great reviews!
True Romance was written by Quentin Tarantino.
@@pthor6265 Then almost disowned by Tarantino, then loved by Tarantino lol. Bloody amazing film.
This might be one of the most natural, exciting, & authentic reaction videos to watch☝️
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrel and Rocknrolla super good too, highly recomend.
One of my favorite movie ever. Insane cast of characters! The soundtrack! Near perfection.
This film is exactly what growing up in South East London is like
I’ve been waiting for you (and other reactors) to discover this movie. Just knew you’d enjoy the editing. Like you said, so much style.
This film in the top 20 of all time
Hey James glad you liked it. Lock Stock and two smoking barrels is an underrated Guy Ritchie film. Esp before he went to Hollywood and married madonna. Snatch is his best film in my opinion. Visuals, editing and characters.
FYI in modern lingo they are called "travellers."
although used in the movie "Pikey" is a derogotive term.
And yes Brad Pitt earned my respect for the traveller accent. He also does a great Jamaican one too!!!! (Meet Joe Black).
Can't wait to see your Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels reaction 🤞
Snatch is in my top 5 favorite movies ever, no question. Literally EVERY SINGLE SCENE in it is FULL of quotable lines - hell, I'd even go as far as guessing that perhaps 2/3rds of ALL the dialogue in Snatch is quotable as hell. Certainly there are more quotabb
And my favorite character is Brick Top.
Man...this movie is just *chef’s kiss* 👌
Hahaha worthy for sure!
Came here by way of Brandon Likes Movies and I'm not disappointed. I've been binging your reactions and really enjoying them. Keep up the good work my man.
this is a masterpiece! i wish they made movies like this!!!!
Guy Ritchie's films are soo stylish. The soundtrack, the script, the editing, the clothes.. top notch filmmaker. He's very stylish irl too and there's a running joke that he changes his outfit every 6hrs on set. Lol
D’ya like Dags?
Pitt pulling a page out of Del Toros book in Usual Suspects
Great pick dude
Thanks brotha!!
"But youve got your parties mangled up." Its the best monologue in the movie.
Guy Ritchie said he regrets not making a trilogy of this. Imagine that ...my god
"You know: fish, chips, cup 'o tea, bad food, worse weather, Mary fucking Poppins... LONDON."
After 20 years it still gets me every time I hear it! 🤣🤣🤣
Please put Dead Mans Shoes in the patreon polls. One of the best british movies of all time❤️❤️❤️❤️
Watched it all the way through. It's quite a joy seeing somebody enjoy Snatch again.
That soundtrack my homies. You gotta get it the whole thing is clean.
I’ve seen this at least 50 times. It never gets old!
You're not much use to me alive are you, Turkish? haha.
Yup Lock Stock is a must. My personal fav Guy Richie film.
RocknRolla & Revolver
Yea one of my favorite movies of all time. So much to love from the screen writing to the editing to the amazing acting.
I always forget Lennie James is in this (Solomon) I'm so used to him being Morgan in The walking dead
The 2nd time around, you should watch it with closed captioning, so you'll know what Mickey is saying.
a classic for sure. the editing, use of music, acting and all of that was obviously quite unique at the time, then there's the comedic value, in part a universal one, but particularly those little details that i imagine mostly the brits are able to pick up, especially for those familiar with the 90's london 'scene' guy was a part of... the movie is like a nostalgic return to those awesome times
as already mentioned ... Guy Ritchies best and funniest gangster comedy is: Lock, Stock and 2 smoking barrels
I think snatch is the better of the two
Yeah I like lock, stock and two smoking barrels more.
I love that in the call between Four-fingers and Avi that Frour-fingers has a different suit every time it cuts back to him.
Lock stock and two smoking barrels is Ritchie’s best film IMO.
This is by far one of my top favorite all-time movies! I think during my lifetime so far, i've seen it something like 7 or 8 times and it never feels old.
Next one in the series of these films, is
LOCK STOCK AND 2 SMOKING BARRELS
its an even better artistically and cinematography is better made movie.
GO FOR IT.
Its a pleasure to see an actual filmmaker analyse a film as it goes on
