@@drjennpwritestheir sound team is extremely underrated. Like how clear they make the vocals and instruments needs to be studied. It also definitely helps that there’s no sound interference
The office setting definitely helps (carpet floor and acoustic tile ceilings), and the irregular pattern of fibrous materials (books/bookshelves) contributes further to cutting down sound reflections. The microphone choice (shotgun style) allows for them to get the mic closer with a narrower audio field, isolating each part to a significant degree. Also, just really talented engineers that are used to working in the space.

@@ashriihii was a little confused but i think they mean that chappell’s very artistic persona is kept separate from her “actual” persona in real life in a means to not cheapen it? where as other people would try to go viral and be dramatic 24/7 for the attention
I don't remember watching a tiny desk performance that got as much love from the staff and audience present as this one did. It's such a joy to witness her growth and all the love she is receiving.
Gotta tell you, lots of tiny desk shows i just pass over but this one, well, I'm glad I stuck around.
I’m sure they had all the number one fans, family fiends of the all the band members there that could fit there. She said it was her Super Bowl. That says a lot! I’m already checking more of them out
Their excitement brings even more joy. Check out Lizzo's TDC too. People were so into it and it was super fun to see.
@@tordre1Used to love Lizzo, but after being revealed as a terrible person by dozens of people, I can’t support her anymore.
The upcoming one will be Soul Glo- first hardcore punk band they've ever had here, the energy from the crowd is crazyyyy but that's expected for a band of that genre- they get the credit for the first ever tiny desk push-pit lol
No one has made this dramatic of a change yet. No one has made in her generation this extreme of a switch. And she is the first in the generation.

It’s so acceptable for Chappell
Lololol

I'll be 40 in a couple of weeks. I know there's still good music being made, I'm just not as good at finding it anymore. I've been checked out of pop for a while, but sometimes I luck into stuff like this. Chappel Roan is a huge talent and has the take-no-sh*t ethos we need more of these days. Nothing but respect.
🤩 I am a old man that had no clue what to expect and I am so blown away by the entire ensemble and the talent of these musicians
Love this comment😭💛
you have fantastic taste sir!! welcome to the club💕
this is adorable lol her music is amazing
Love you Steve!!!
Dude, me too! I stumbled
onto this and all I can say is WoW
she sounds BETTER live than on the album. That's insane.
it’s probably because her voice has matured sm! if u listen to her older stuff u can hear the GIGANTIC stylistic shift and how it’s changed 😩 she used to sing more “cursive” lol
@@samii5245 the cursive is called coloratura mezzo soprano, its a vocal style that fell out of popularity. Coloratura styles used to be more popular, find an 80s version of Green Finch from Sweeny and you will see Joanna is supposed to be a shrieking caged bird, not whatever she was in the film. Nobody in music now is really doing coloratura, and I am here for it.

Watching the livestream of her bonnaroo set had me crying, her music and art is so incredibly powerful and important. One of the greatest artists of our time right there, so cool to see!

I feel like she chose songs to showcase the INSANE skill of her band as well as her own. Iconic.
Even with such an outlandish and campy aesthetic, she is SO authentic and talented. Queen is getting the recognition she deserves!!!

I liked her until I found out she’s anti-LGBTQ
the lipstick on her teeth, the wig, the fan and cell phone, the PINK and her playfull attitude... this is chappell at her finest WE LOVE HERRRRR
I'm a huge fan of Tiny Desk concerts and love finding new artists that I've never heard before. I have to say I was absolutely floored by her performance. Original, daring, in-your-face attitude for days and fragile, all at the same time. I'm in love with her talent. Oh, and BTW I'm soon to be 67 years old. You're never too old to be open to new musical experiences. ❤💞❤
I feel the same about these kids music. I'm almost 40 but I love listening to newer artists. She's iconic.🥰
Same! I’m 60 and I just saw her on SNL. I’ve never heard any of her music before and now I’m down the rabbit hole. The last person who took my breath away like this was Adele. ❤
I got a little weepy at the end of Red Wine Supernova, I don’t know why. The joy her band takes in playing these songs with her shows that she’s not only a great songwriter, singer and performer but a great bandleader as well, which is genuinely heartwarming to see.
Me too, I’ve never heard of her before this but for some reason I burst out crying in the last bit of that song. There’s something so joyous and genuine about this whole tiny desk and it speaks to me straight through the screen. Definitely going to listen to her frequently after this
I saw this comment thinking no way it could make someone this emotional. And here I am at the end with tears in my eyes. The joy is oozing out of them
Her drummer Lucy is having such a blast the whole time
i thought it was just me!!!!!
I loved when she broke character and laughed in the middle of the song. Super duper infectious.
My adult kid just saw Chappell's show in Seattle...I came home to share this Tiny Desk concert, and they said, "MOM! That's who I went to see last month! Isn't she amazing!" YES, this band is amazing. Thank you Chappell Roan and band. I am one of your biggest fans and I am 59!
55 & just found her. so happy! she somehow gives same vibes of our 90s female lilith fair heroes

So few people are age are able to still enjoy new music (as opposed to most, whose entire musical universe is limited to getting a nostalgia pleasure out of listening to the same music they were enjoying back in their high school or college days).
70 and rock on Chappell and Cat Stevens.

Pink Pony Club. Checkout the music video for that, it's fun!
I hate pop music, but this is on another level, she is not just another souless cute girl being a product, she is a true artist and now I get the whole chapell roan hype going on rn. I usually listen to 80's music and industrial metal like Tool or marilyn manson, but to be honest I can only listen to chapell and I'm loving every minute I listen to her sing
my sister passed away in January this year. it hurts stumbling onto these videos and thinking "I know she'll love this! I'll share it with her", only to be reminded that she can no longer receive it.
Chappell has such an amazing style + character and her music is absolutely lovely; it reminds me of the special woman my sister was, so full of love, character, and killer style to boot.

The band having matching outfits and makeup is so so cute. I love that you can tell they're having fun
It is tacky and childish.
What dark magic does tiny desk have that every artists best live performance is in that little office?
Their sound engineers are miracle workers
I'd argue light magic 😉
@@drjennpwritestheir sound team is extremely underrated. Like how clear they make the vocals and instruments needs to be studied. It also definitely helps that there’s no sound interference
The office setting definitely helps (carpet floor and acoustic tile ceilings), and the irregular pattern of fibrous materials (books/bookshelves) contributes further to cutting down sound reflections. The microphone choice (shotgun style) allows for them to get the mic closer with a narrower audio field, isolating each part to a significant degree. Also, just really talented engineers that are used to working in the space.
She’s literally the GENZ Cyndi Lauper
Wow. Some of the best music being made today. That voice.
If NPR ever did vinyls of their tiny desk concerts, I would definitely get this one, and every other one 😅
They did Mac Miller. I hope to see others

That wasn’t even that long ago, I think it was the middle of the pandemic. I’m glad she moved back to LA and decided to give it another shot.

I remember watching this when it first got uploaded. I rem thinking “omg this is so genuine” and then now she’s the biggest thing in the world!!!
I don’t know if people understand how important having an artist this raw and real is. I wish there were more artists willing to be flawed and open.
I don't think I've ever heard the tiny desk audience cheer so loud
Finally the world sees Chappell
It’s been like 3 years of me showing her to my circle and now she’s blowing up
