Salford Raised mp4 0002

This song was written by Arthur Wakefied, a fine singer and songwriter who was born in the Regent Road area of Salford but who emigrated to Cheshire many years ago. Hanky Park (Pete Martin and Tony Downes) recorded this in 1988 at The Racecourse Hotel. We recorded it live with two guitars then added piano, autoharp and maybe something else - it was a long time ago and I can't remember. We called it Salford Raised but Arthur told us some time later that it was really called, "The Ballad of Regent Road". Hope you like it!

The photo at 1:59 is Cardiff Street Higher Broughton. My Uncle lived at number 52 ,he emigrated to Germany in the 1980's.
I was born in the next street down at King Street. I remember my mother allowed me to visit this shop in the photo for the first time on my own (I was 4 years old).I bought a loaf of sliced bread. I was so excited,i squeezed the loaf too hard ,and the bread popped out of the end. There was a trail of bread leading all the way back to our house. I was so upset,but my mother smiled at me and said "don't worry" we will get another one. Happy memories.

i was born in 1977 so pretty much the 1980s was my best days to mid 90s.
Though Salford has Changed so much it will always be where my heart belongs

That first picture was corner of Ivy st Salford 7...toffee shop on corner....there was Wally street nxt to Ivy...it could be Wally Street....
