It's kind of a shame really, because on the movie they animated him on 2's (every other frame) when he was starting, to show his inexperience and nervousness, but at the end of the movie he was animated on 1's, to show his growth and mastery, so it really is a shame that they didn't implement that on the game

I've heard the framerate argument plenty, but there's a huge difference between animation in 2's and 1's with 30fps, not with something with a dynamic fps like video games which can be all the way to 60 if not above. It doesn't carry over throughout the medium, it looks awful.

It’s a very bad sentence, to the point it’s impressive.

Larger eyes (compared to characters like Iron Man, Daredevil, etc) do allow Spider-Man to be more expressive, even with a full-face mask. It also matches how young he typically is in media, and suits his characterisation as a light-hearted quipper. So, Andy's 100% right on this one, and I support his passionate response. Large eyes are just good character design. The amount of red on the suit is also very important. For coolness reasons.
I dunno. I didn't like the new suit in spiderman for ps4. It's fine if others liked it, but I spent most of the game in the original suit. And most of the new game + in the Sam Raimi suit.

For people who are currently playing Miles Morales or beat it and didn't know. The "Into The Spiderverse" suit is NOT animated differently. Unlocking the suit unlocks 2 separate mods for Miles to attach to ANY of his suits. One mod adds comic book sound effects with the colorful background like POW, THOWK, BANG!!! when he hits enemies. The other mod is the one that lowers the current suits framerate to match the half rate from ItS. So you can put it on his standard suit, his Prowler suit, his Daft Punk suit, even the one with Spider-Man the cat. As long as you have the mod equipped, he will move choppy like that. I just want you guys to know so you can experience the awesome of the mod while not being locked into just one suit when there's like 30.

That Saint's Row 4 side scrolling bit where you were WEARING THE CLOTHES YOU HAD DRESSED UP AS blew my mind at the time and was my favorite bit of SR4. I don't recall how many hair and clothes and color options were available in the main game but the fact they replicated it enough to be represented in the side scrolling bit was very cool to me.
I don't think they actually recreated everything tho, i've seen mods that add the sidescroller animations to the regular character, or that let you access the map used for the sidescroller, and the it shows that the level is actually in 3D, just with a filter to give an 8-bit look to it
I can remember how disappointed I was that the 2nd game would be a Miles Morales spin-off, how naive I was. Insomniacs Miles Morales is now my favourite iteration of Spiderman 🤣

Awh man! The miles morales suit with its reduced frame rate is my shit! I don’t play without it 😝 Slightly different but the quips “special” in the Spider-Man PS4 is also the most fun when beating up baddies and dissing them at the same time. and it adds difficulty because it removes your strongest attacks and requires a reliance/mastery on the more basic skills
So happy you not included the Rescue Johnny Gat mission in Saints Row 4 but also mentioned that they imported your current clothing into the side-scroller look! That's the best bit!
Don't forget about saint's row 3 where, while in "cyberspace", you get the "low ping debuff" while fighting someone, then have to shoot at targets with lag worse than someone trying to play pubg with free McDonalds wi-fi.
Anodyne 2 has a mechanic where you can enter inside beings, which moves the game from 3D to 2D. But later you unlock the ability to enter inside beings in the 2D world, which leads you to a 1980's style 2D world.

Man, I appreciate any chance for Saints Row to appear on a list again. It feels like it's been ages since developers even tried making a comedy game, let alone an actually funny one, so seeing Saints Row always makes me a little nostalgic.
Honorable mention: Conarium... changed video card and launched that for the first time. Turns out they designed the opening dream sequence to look just like the tears and smudges of a bad GPU and I was very confused.
It's pretty ancient at this point but look up Interstate 76. The game itself is over 20 years old but the animation is intentionally made to look like 70s/80s blocky CGI (Think that Dire Straits video or Weird Al's parody of it).
The secret levels in Doom, you can find hidden areas that have kept the graphics of the old Doom games. Back in 1995 is a game that was deliberately made to resemble survival horror of the 90s. Not played it, but I hear it's also an absolute horror to play, and not the good horror way. Not that they look bad as such, but the numerous of retro style RPGs and platformers you find on the stores you could say are done on purpose.

Have a couple honorable mentions: Arx Fatalis has a spell you can cast that downgrades all the textures (in tribute to Ultima Underworld, which the team originally wanted the game to be based on), and Halo Master Chief Collection lets you downgrade the visuals of Halo CE & 2 to look like the originals. (There's a massive difference in Halo 2, and you can switch back and forth in-game by simply hitting the Tab key.)
Love the contemporary animation style used in Spiderverse. FYI it's also used in Love Death and Robots, I highly recommend looking it up...if your 18+ ofc
Timeless River in Kingdom Hearts 2. Pixel count doesn't change but everything is monochrome and mouth animations go back to the old school Disney style more recently depicted in Cuphead, with Mickey and Pete naturally reverted to their original Steamboat Willie designs.
Hate to be that guy, but Mr. Game & Watch actually made his debut in Smash bros. Melee (#2) for the Nintendo Game Cube. You got a chance to unlock him after beating classic mode with every other playable character.

Slightly cheaty answer but in Metal Gear Solid 4, there is a flashback sequence where you go back to Shadow Moses from the first game and actually play in the 1998 version of the helipad (before landing in the 2008 version.) Honestly blew my tiny 14 year old mind first time i played MGS4.

It also works on any tattoos your PC has, it also also pixelates the pixelation if you play that part nude so the filter mod makes sense

Hate to be that guy, but Mr. Game & Watch actually made his debut in Smash bros. Melee (#2) for the Nintendo Game Cube. You got a chance to unlock him after beating classic mode with every other playable character.

Carmageddon TDR 2000 had a mode that switched the game to text adventure. You can't get much lower fi than that.

Mr. Game n Watch first appearance is in SSBM for the Game Cube. Are y'all that young? the smash community is still huge and even the melee community is pretty big.

Sure space Quest 5 had an EGA joke, but in Space Quest 4 you got to travel back in time to the first game in the series, and have a whole sequence wandering around its CGA glory

Space Quest 4 also had the bit where you go back in time to Space Quest 1 which was really funny. Might be too similar to the Thimbleweed Park game's reference.
Mr. Game and watch first appeared in mellee , not 4. Just has to say that as a smash fan!
When you said Mr. G&W was introduced in smash 4, I didn't really realize it until a good 15 seconds had passed.

I'm surprised you guys mentioned Space Quest but didn't mention Space Quest 4 where you travel through time by going into the previous installments in the series and their original graphics.

Slightly cheaty answer but in Metal Gear Solid 4, there is a flashback sequence where you go back to Shadow Moses from the first game and actually play in the 1998 version of the helipad (before landing in the 2008 version.) Honestly blew my tiny 14 year old mind first time i played MGS4.
