I know it's not quite the same, but Assassin's Creed II felt like it mocked me for getting those damn feathers. "Oh, you found ALL ONE HUNDRED feathers scattered around Italy? Here's a useless cape that makes everybody hate you..." Ugh, sorry. It's been on my mind since going back to it after finally playing the original.
Gameplay-wise, no the hell it was not worth it. Story-wise... well, let's see. You collected feathers through ass-impossible places to fulfill your family's wish, and you get in reward the honor of your family's cape to adorn versus the world. Sounds like a worthy reward when he wanted people to know who he was.
Binding of Isaac: Rebirth/Afterbirth/Afterbirth + After getting all 402 other achievements you get the last one called 1000000% that is just a picture of a stop sign with the description "Just Stop!"
Ghosts ‘n Goblins. You go though hell and back just to complete the game only to be mocked by the villain and forced to play the game all the way through again but on a higher difficulty, if that was even possible.
The main problem is that this list is about how these games mock you for succeeding so thoroughly. So a more accurate expression would be "If you try too hard to succeed and are mocked for it, rethink your choices in life or games."
That one actually felt pretty satisfying to me. The Narrator exalts your efforts and says that the achievement had value specifically because we worked so hard for it. ☺️
Omg, I actually remember completing the Spider Man 2 'Hint Marker Search'. I was super excited to actually find them all again to hear what they said. Then when I heard 'Something different...' I kinda just sat there for a few seconds before snickering a bit, finding a few more to be sure, having a bit of a laugh, and then moving on to actually beat the game with my time...

The Lost World Jeff Goldblum one actually was the reason I stopped 100% games as a kid. I spent like a whole week beating it and learned a valuable life lesson.
I remember the Jurassic Park one as a kid. I was like "that's it." It was one of my favorite games as a little kid. I'm kind of surprised anyone still remembered that game. I still have it.
I take issue with the fact that they called it "defunct" though. It's still going strong. They've shut down service to the PS2 and Xbox 360 versions, yeah, but the servers are still live on PC, and in fact the game gets monthly balance/content patches. It's still $11.95 a month (plus $1 per character) to play though.
It's fine, I'm fine I totally don't have issues. I'm totally not desperate for validation because of Jeff Goldblum, I'm fine. I WILL MAKE YOU LOVE ME ONE DAY.
What about undertale? When you fight sans, he gives you an option to spare him and when you do he kills you and the game over screen instead of telling you to keep going says GET DUNKED ON! And you have to do the entire fight all over again

Technically the insulting ending wasn’t that, it was after actually rescuing Peach, she said “your quest is over. Now do it all over again but harder this time!” At least Mario 2 had a proper ending: Peach would recite a poem thanking Mario & Luigi and gifting them a billion points for each remaining life while kinopio/toads dance around them.

The Lost World Jeff Goldblum one actually was the reason I stopped 100% games as a kid. I spent like a whole week beating it and learned a valuable life lesson.
I remember the Jurassic Park one as a kid. I was like "that's it." It was one of my favorite games as a little kid. I'm kind of surprised anyone still remembered that game. I still have it.

I take issue with the fact that they called it "defunct" though. It's still going strong. They've shut down service to the PS2 and Xbox 360 versions, yeah, but the servers are still live on PC, and in fact the game gets monthly balance/content patches. It's still $11.95 a month (plus $1 per character) to play though.
It's fine, I'm fine I totally don't have issues. I'm totally not desperate for validation because of Jeff Goldblum, I'm fine. I WILL MAKE YOU LOVE ME ONE DAY.

What about undertale? When you fight sans, he gives you an option to spare him and when you do he kills you and the game over screen instead of telling you to keep going says GET DUNKED ON! And you have to do the entire fight all over again

I'm very happy FFXI was included on this list, and deservedly, however that fishing rod is the best in the game and "unbreakable".... also you can buy the required fish, which are easy to catch even for starting fishermen, from other players.
You left out the classic insulting ending "The Princess is in Another Castle."
Technically the insulting ending wasn’t that, it was after actually rescuing Peach, she said “your quest is over. Now do it all over again but harder this time!” At least Mario 2 had a proper ending: Peach would recite a poem thanking Mario & Luigi and gifting them a billion points for each remaining life while kinopio/toads dance around them.
