  • In this video, I am talking about that thing no one talks about. The frustrations you face when you switch from Premiere Pro to Davinci Resolve 19. No It's without a doubt the best decision I have ever made but I wish someone told me what I had to be aware of. There are a lot of pain point but if you are willing to be patient, you will reap the benifits.

some third party plugins were made with particular fonts, they won't work if you don't have those fonts. Some require you to turn the clips to compound clips and fusion clips and some work with the length of the clip.

Thank you for this video, yesterday I started the first steps of switching, first of I was shocked by not being able to use Pixel units in sizing, positioning …etc.
Also DaVinci crashed 3 times while previewing the titles before dropping them to the timeline.
I miss some features like expanding a panel by pressing ~ (which does Undo in DaVinci).
I have been editing videos in premiere and doing motion graphics works in After Effects for ages, yet yesterday I ordered the DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor Keyboard and I hope it will be a great start with Studio version and the crushing experience will be eliminated.
Thank you for this nice video… you made me feel I am not the only one struggling here. 😅
    Good luck

Appreciate the comment. Don't worry too much about those glitches, it's def worth switching to Davinci.

First of all your bin or folder problem: just select all the folders with the media you want in the timeline in the left panel next to the folder you double clicked. Than you will see all the media that's inside that folder in that window where you double clicked the folder. From the you can select everything with cmd + a and drag&drop to the timeline.
Transition: Usually you can move Transitions just like in premiere. Probably one clip hadn't enough handles for the transition to work with, so you couldn't move it. But that's in Premiere the same. Even more! You can right click the transition applied and open it as fusion comp. Then you can manipulate every aspect of the transition and your not stuck with the default settings.
And except for the remix tool I could see something missing. Its a different program and therefore it will work differently. We life in an age of time where Avid isn't your only program u can use for videoediting. Ive to switch in my job between Avid, Premiere, Resolve and sometimes also Final Cut an things like Shortcuts, how time remapping works where effect panels are etc. all that stuff is different. And that for a reason. I stuck with resolve privately because u can do proper sound design in that page and not something half baked like Premiere. U can do a lot of VFX in fusion much better than in premiere where you don't even have a tracker...
Every program has his trade offs but resolve is for me the best start to finish application by far. The other programs are strictly for offline purposes, but everything that goes into proper color grading, vfx, or sound design you have to transfer and reconfirm the edits in completely different softwares like Flame, nuke, protools etc.
I hope I could help you with understanding the stuff a little bit better and helped you with my first 2 tips.
When you're really into delivering a finished product, I highly suggest to get into the topic of gamma tags and how to deliver a file with the coolers you graded. A gamma shift easily happens and in Resolve there are ways to define in manually.
    Kind regards

Hey man appreciate you taking the time to comment on this and share your tips. Will definitely give it a try.
As for editing suites, I think Davinci's the one 💪. Really enjoy it and excited to explore all the functionality.
      Cheers

Honestly, I think if you're switching from Premiere Pro to Davinci (which I do highly recommend), I'd start off with the actual release version - Resolve 18. With 19 still in beta, I wouldn't want to deal with problems arising from that, all while learning a new platform.

I think you are probably right

As a former software engineer, I completely agree. Beta software will be buggy and likely slow. It's going to have new codecthat needs to be tested in actual use environments (the purpose of a beta), and will thus contain extra diagnostic and reporting code which can cause a lot of lag.
And NEVER use a beta for anything important.
Beyond that, it's probably just a matter of learning a slightly different way to do things. Some of your Adobe features, or even some plugin functionality, might be there under different names.
Edit: Another thought on plugins... do they work in other editing software, or might they be using an Adobe-specific API? I have run into problems with compatibility with OFX plugins that weren't able to work with all software.

Learning new software is always difficult. You don't know what you are talking about. I just now drug a video from explorer directly into my timeline.

I am pretty sure I said it IS possible? Dragging a folder with sub folders from your media pool aren't 😁

That makes me so happy to hear. But I had issues with that in V18 so hopefully when the full version gets released it's all good! 💪

Davinci is not Premiere, and Premiere is not Davinci

Literally bro's face is telling how frustrated he is, here are some of my frustrations:
    1. Adjusting the layer height: in Premiere -- Shft+ m wheel = All layers height, Alt+wheel = selected layer height
But in Davinci you can only adjust height of all. No option for single so I have to manually do it by dragging.
    2. While in Pr you can preview a selected window to full screen by pressing shft+~` ,
but in Dv you can only preview the preview monitor in full, not the timeline, not any other window.

Word bro, your number two killed me. I actually had to get a second monitor for that. I actually forgot about that one 😂
