Hiya Angela ,a Brit girl living in Florida here ,l have a question about the Old World digital ,Not being very computer savvy ,is it a video that you show and by “downloading” does that mean it’s saved and put in a “folder” or something to look at when needed,? Also I’m presuming it’s $20 per quarter ,am l right?,l do look forward to your videos as l don’t buy magazines now as my favorites have been discontinued and don’t feel other magazines quench my thirst for my type of decor ,thanks in advance if you get a chance to reply xx

An old thick sock/glove/pot holder/cloth placed under each corner makes moving heavy furniture easier for me. I am my own 'handywoman". That green of your hutch is so perfect. You have beautiful tastes and make so many of us happy with your creative projects! Congrats on your new adventure, "Old World". It's a breath of fresh air over the landscape of white or kitchens with stainless steel/all black. When I see them, it triggers a memory of the smell of formaldehyde in high school biology class. Thanks for delivering beauty to us!

I have saved two 92 year old French doors, a front door, & an interior door from the remodel of our Tudor Revival cottage for future use. Can't wait to install them into something appropriately nice & cozy.
You, your time, and your focus are what your children want most to see from you. When they get that, they know what it means. No words are necessary because what you have done says it all.
Your daughter will always know she has a mother who loves her very dearly - and for many of us who didn't get the kind of heartfelt parental attention you provide your children, nothing could be more gratifying to see.

Ive used the mirror paint many times on old windows. A layer of matt black paint at the end helps quite a bit. Ive also dripped water between layers. Patting it up with a sponge at the end right before the black layer, to mimic distressed mirrors.

    • @DebKiwi
      @DebKiwi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, I kept thinking that I would have done a distressed, mercury glass look on those doors. I would have also giving the wood parts a bit of pickling...just a wee bit to tone them down. Would still look very French.

    • @willowgrove9288

I love what you did with the mirrors! They look truly vintage! When that type of spray paint came out there was a tutorial on Pinterest (of course), on how to make faux mercury glass and I think EVERYTHING in my first apartment fell victim to that. 😂 I adore the green hutch too. Just exquisite! ♡

Enjoyed seeing this lovely makeover. Such a great idea with the doors. Junior was darling with his smiles, and "honey". My middle son called me "peanut" at that age, we asked why, he said, " Mom calls me honey, so I call her peanut. " Makes sense, food as a name of endearment.😊 I no longer have your energy, if I ever did, but you encourage me in my projects.

Another great way to use the mirror spray is to create a "mercury glass" look. Spray your glass with a vinegar & water 50-50 mixture, then spray mirror spray while wet, blot with a paper towel, let dry, repeat if needed. Yummy look!!

That mirror spray paint can be tricky. All spray paint can be, but regular colors are more forgiving because "fog" isn't an issue. I have found that following the directions to a T are the most important part of the mirror spray paint; temperature, can distance, volume, time between coats, etc. It took me tries on scraps to figure it out.

I love your videos and just signed up for Old World! I usually watch the videos on my TV so I dont have a way to “like” them or comment. I went to the app today though! I live in a French Country home that we built 18 years ago and I’m STILL having fun shopping antique stores, flea markets and such for treasures to decorate with. I did the same wall technique in several rooms and still love it although it is not that popular down here in Alabama. I finally got my dream trip of a lifetime to France in 2018 and it was amazing! My only regrets are the things I DIDNT buy at the Paris flea market! I hope to go back one day. Keep sending us your videos and we will keep watching and loving your beautiful family!

Nice. The mirror- ing really turned out nice. You're right .. looks vintage which goes with the house. My one critique would be the silhouettes - they seem a little harsh and overpowering among the more delicate furnishings and colors present in the room (at least what was visible in the video). But you have a better vantage point ... and tastes differ. Overall very pretty room.

To move awkward or heavy furniture, slip an old blanket underneath, rather evenly if you can, and push the item along keeping the blanket underneath the legs. ( I sometimes move the entire piece by simply pulling on the blanket.). Watch out for really uneven spots on the floor. The item will glide smoothly along. Commercial furniture “gliders” work well too.

Your silhouettes are lovely. I used to make them with my students for parental Christmas gifts.

I think the "mirrors" turned out great. I'll have to remember that trick!

I have used the mirror spray paint and love it. I used it on an old window outside and it has done well outside. Great job....it looks great Angie. Thanks for inspiration.

Hey I was thinking you need to get some of those sliders they are amazing. You can move huge items like they weigh nothing. I love mine I can move large furniture by myself....They are light weight plastic you put under each side of your furniture and it slides like it weighs nothing.

I love your channel! It’s so nice to know that there are others that appreciate the Old World style. You are so talented, and you have helped me visualize how I wanted to decorate my new home.
I have an all wood cottage with a silver metal roof that my husband built all by himself. There were a couple of items that he hired help with like electrical and plumbing. It’s situated on a 10 ac farm in Charleston SC area which is a southeastern coastal area. We love it hear!
I look forward to being inspired by some more of your ideas. I recently ordered an old style cast iron bed with the classic farm house style head and foot board. I was thinking about doing a chenille bedspread to finish the look. I plan to add a few throw pillows for extra interest. Another feature I like about our master bedroom is the small crystal chandelier above our bed. The walls, ceiling, and floors are all natural unfinished raw pine wood boards with unique imperfections that make each board unique and interesting. The boards are set horizontally, and any thin gaps that run the length of the board are filled with chinking. The floors are natural, oiled pine wood floors.
The floor plan is very simple. Picture a capital letter “T” with the main living area running parallel to the top horizontal line of the “T”, at the top, front half of the home. This main living space is evenly split in half, the left side has a kitchen & dining area combo, and it’s open to the great room on the right half. When you enter the front entrance of our home, it’s very inviting, and the large, open space is magnified by the cathedral ceiling covered in the same silver metal panels that we used on the roof. There are charming, large, bronze light fixtures that hang from the high ceilings, which bring contrast to the wood walls and floors, and the high, silver, metal ceilings. and matching fixtures through out the rest of the home. Just an FYI, we also used the metal panels for the shower walls in the master bath, and used it for a featured wall, behind the white cast iron claw foot tub, in the hall bath.
As for the front entrance, it is evenly centered on the front, exterior wall of the living area. It features French doors that lead out, onto a covered porch that extends along the entire width of the house. Giving the opportunity to sit back in a rocking chair with a cup of coffee, and taking in the perfect view of the beautiful, country scenery. I have to describe the kitchen for you, it’s a simple idea that has simple charm. We had a Hickory Tree fall during a hurricane, so we made boards for our kitchen counter and shelves. We have a porcelain farm sink that sits in the countertop that faces the dining and great room area. This allows you to see what’s going on, and be part of the conversation, instead of having your back turned away from everyone. This also allowed us to have free counter space directly in front of the kitchen window, and it allows you to use it for growing herbs or sprouts, and having great natural light while creating your favorite baking goods, or meals. Another thing I like about our open, main living area is, if you are sitting at breakfast, or relaxing in the great room, there are 6 windows that give open views of what’s happening on the farm, which makes for great entertainment from the farm animals, and the wildlife that love stopping by our farm too!
That’s enough about the front half of the home, but before I move on to the back half of the home, I want to mention another great feature of our home. Just as you are leaving the main living area to enter the hallway, just to the right, we have a mud room with a side entrance that has a small covered porch area. This is our preferred entrance since it’s next to the driveway. It’s easy to carry in groceries, plus, after farm chores we can take off muddy boots, and wash them off in the utility sink, and throw our dirty clothes in the washer, before heading down the hallway for a shower, or a relaxing soak in the comfortingly arms of the cast iron, claw foot tub.
Now, for the back half of the home! For a quick visual and orientation, remember looking at the capital letter “T”? Well, where the top, horizontal line of the “T” first meets with the vertical stem of the “T”, that’s where the entrance of the 6’ wide hallway starts, and extends 21’ in length, ending at the French doors that exit onto the back covered porch, which is identical to the front porch, running the entire back width of the home. Consequently, since the two bedrooms are located at the very back end of the house, the two windows of each bedroom look directly onto the back porch, and have a wonderful view of the, over 100ac forest that is just beyond our back yard. It’s very common to see gorgeous deer, turkeys, and other wild life roaming around as if our farm is just a continuation of their habitat, which I suppose it is, actually!!
Now, if we go back to where the mud room entrance is, and just past that doorway is the hall bath entrance. Then finally, there are two bedroom doors, opposite of one another, halfway down the hallway. Those four entrances off of the hallway, are what make up the back half of the home.
The 2nd bedroom is after the bathroom entrance, both are on the same side of the hallway as the mud room. There is a door just inside the bedroom that gives direct entrance into and out of the hall bath for added privacy and convenience. The master bedroom is across the hall, and it has a large master bath. Both bedrooms are identical in shape and size 12’Lx 14’W, and both have big walk in closets, with the exception of the master bed having its own private bathroom, which is twice the size of the hall bath, and the master walk in closet is twice the size of the 2nd bed’s closet space.
I hope I was able to give you a good description of our home, and if you had any ideas that came to mind, please feel free to mention them to me. Thanks again for sharing your amazing insights and talents with all of us. God bless you and your family, and keep you safe and healthy!
    Big hugs!
