"Old soul since birth" -- to the amusement of my family. That's what mom and grandmother called me. 😅😅 Only daughter of 5 younger siblings, I created my own world and still living in it at age 70. (Painting, watercolor, decor, upcycling, sewing, freelance magazine design (-stitchery and scherenscnitte), pastry and cake decoration, florals, weddings, coordinator, broadcast media, genealogy...) Great fun life here! I really enjoy your vlog. My decorating days are complete...I'm so antique. 😄
Oh my goodness, the same thing happened to me in high school too. I was always told how artistic I was, asked to work on set crew for plays, musicals, decorate hallways I felt being artistic was one of my identities - that all changed junior year in 1 thing my fine arts teacher said of my work ... I was shattered and wounded. My senior year I took a more industrial and sculptural art class and loved it! I’m not a fine artist, I’m a folk, needle felting, sculptural kinda artist. I won’t lie, his words still ring in my ears some 35 years later. However, I teach children, elderly, veterans, UW extension and community education, 4H, Girl Scouts .... I’m passing on my knowledge and experience positively. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I had an experience like you described with a high school art teacher. It changed the trajectory of my life. Many years later I am now again finally embracing my artistic side.
I'm an "old soul"...there are so many things I like about the so-called "Good Old Days". Architecture, manners [civility] styles of clothing, cars, and the U.S. as a whole! I connect very little with this cheap, over-rated hi-tech era. I remember my home city, San Francisco when I grew up in [the 1940's to the mid 1960's]. So much has declined in this "future". My home was built in1919...and it is furnished in authentic period furnishings...everything MADE IN USA!! I also collect vintage phonographs, including the Victor VI you feature in your dancing intro, and 3000 vintage 78's to play on them. I'm an only child and grew up with my parents and relatives who were part of the "Greatest Generation", thus I absorbed that culture and became an "old soul". I love thrifting and collecting. The one thing missing in my life is a lady such as you and your friends who love vintage...all my female buddies are not interested in it at all. They grew up in the feminist generation, which they still cling to, and are minimalists, as well as live with their smart phones! My age...78, and like Benjamin Button...getting younger! I notice out here, there is very little interest in vintage...this city has lost so many antique, junktique, and thrift stores, plus the Covid situation has shut down the estate sale business.
As an art teacher (I think of it more as a gentle guide), it drives me mad to hear about people who are discouraged by their guides. You inspire me daily and I thank you for the beauty that you create.
I love this society. The Facebook group is amazing and it is so supportive. I feel like these people get me. It's so much fun to share our finds and our decor style.

Thank you for sharing. I was so excited to meet you at Doterra meeting last year in Wisconsin. I had a high-school art teacher who liked Modern Art so I had trouble fulfilling my projects because I couldn't do what my thoughts of Art. I'm an old soul who loves your style, remaking old things new. And Creating my own style. Keep teaching us non minimalist or as I say I'm a Maxamist with more projects to do than life to live to get them done.

I joined the Old World Design Society about a month ago. Went on vacation and every night before going to bed had to watch Angela on TH-cam. I love her design ideas. I have alot of work to do in my home.
Isn’t it sad how we listen to people’s incorrect words about us and then those words and thoughts become a part of our very being? And then, how freeing it is when we realize our true path in life. Always listen to that little voice inside of you...that voice will always put you on the right path! Angela, thank you so much for creating the Old World Design Society.... it’s a little piece of heaven in a hectic world!🌺
In life, place matters - and Door is about as good as the Midwest gets. A select part of the world, very much worthy of your setting down permanent roots. A wonderful choice, I'd say. And what's so exciting about your OW endeavor is how happy it's making so many people. There's great warmth, comfort, & beauty in Old World design - and how rewarding it must be to exchange with others who share in this recognition.
You truly have awakened so many “old souls” and gave voice to us, as we were realizing in a loud chorus, “See! See! I’m not alone. There’s more of ME out in the world!!!” I have such a disdain for FB, I just had to leave it. Now, I’m going to go back in, but only to OWS. I need more kindred souls in my life!!! So I’m not the only one who can’t find much for decorating my home (best defined as uncluttered Old World with a Baroque flair) at the current Hobby Lobby. I love antique shopping and decor, not country and farmhouse. I’m going to look Into this society!
Well the current 'country' and 'farmhouse' looks are not at all how I would define either of those styles. I love country and farmhouse, but dating to before the 1950's. It's much different than what is out there now. Too sterile for me! 😆

Angela I remember when we purchased our current Victorian Style Farmhouse in 2019 you were a great source of inspiration. I have always loved old world style but never could express my vision. My family and friends didn't understand why I enjoyed old furniture and (the flawed treasures). You introduced me to a great community of like minded creatives. I think the most impressive it seeing like minded souls who live abroad and have homes that we don't typically see here in US/Canada. They bring a whole new level of Old World Charm. I love old world. ❤️I live in a 150 yr old cottage in a forest in rural Victoria Australia. As Australia is only around 250 yrs old to live in a 150 yr old cottage is a rarity here. My cottage is tiny but full of antiques, second hand and thrifted items. I love your decor, garden and thrifting clips ♥️
Just found your channel and was so happy to connect with your content. I grew up on a farm and now live in a small apt and this is by choice. I get inspired by channels like yours and creates fond memories. I am a person who is an artist but nothing that would be outstanding. It's about the love of art and doing the drawings and painting brings about peace and happiness. I’m trying the digital subscription - I don’t know how this works since it did not ask for an email address. Excited to give it a try- really love the way old things are repurposed and and the color! Love colors, mixing patterns...but as I get older, I am scaling back. I think you can still have a warm, eclectic old world feel without items on every surface. I think the OWS will help me get there!

i love you and shays style but inside my home is more like a teeny cabin with knotty pine walls (that wont ever see paint ) and stacked stone wall accents. Learning how to do and old world feel without it looking pioneerish is very challenging.
I hope this video will attract more to join Old World Design Society and participate in the FB group. It is inspirational, exciting, and a great group to be in communication with. Being inspired by another’s talent, such as Angela’s talent and ability to share, is exciting and enriching, but when you admire that talent you really gain a truer gift and that is of appreciation.

Thank you! Minimalism is BORING. There are many colors other than white, and not all of us are scrupulously fastidious. Better to buy antiques than cheap, poorly constructed stuff from big box stores.
People always called me that. I didn't really understand it for yrs. But Now I Do. I have looked always older than I was, Or that I am but that's ok. I'm happy with me and not trying to go after Youth anymore. I guess that comes with age. Terrible that teacher spoke those untrue words over you. You have tons of talent! I love Old World. I remember watching you paint the heart cake and thinking "Wow, she can even paint!" Don't let anyone steal your dreams, especially a reject teacher who most likely was told that they didn't have any or enough talent. I have two friends that gave up on guitar dreams due to a horrible teacher. It is sad that seems to happen far too often. Anyway, you are following and achieving your dreams but to be honest. I hope you make time for some painting too.
You are a sweet creative person. You remind me of my granddaughter, Molliann. This is why I’m signing up for your course so that I can encourage her to do the same thing with her abilities. She is about to have her 4th Baby and can’t wait to find out if it is a boy or girl. Thrifting is the way to go in this day and age and it is so much fun. Angela....You are so very entrepreneurial....So sorry you were not encouraged properly to follow a dream....I experienced the same....My grades were not that great....But I was studying to be a Classical Ballerina...My Guidance Counselor suggested I become a Waitress....Despite my telling him I had been studying for years....Fortunately I did become a Dancer....Gypsy Rose Lee style...And was able to travel and perform all over the world...I collected Art in my Travels....Your story meant a lot to me....Angela...Best Wishes....Valerie Craft Kitover

Do you know what, whilst watching this, I’ve just had an epiphany. I love STUFF, beautiful thrift treasures, antiques, layers upon layers of beauty and there is the epiphany. It’s not just STUFF., it is beauty. Amassing ephemera is not the acquisition of unnecessary worldly possessions, rather the means of surrounding myself in objet d’art, in beauty and beauty is unquestionably food for our souls. My oldworld cottage is my haven, the Old World Design Society are my people and you, my friend, my inspiration. Xx
I feel like the price is worth what you recieve from the group and the publication! The digital version is avaliable, and about half the price i believe tho don't quote me on that. I would never put a price on what Angela has created here as it is truly amazing, im part of the group and have never felt more at home!
How long until the private group meets on the website and not fb? I want to purchase this so badly but I would not get the community you all love, I do not have a fb account.
It's a matter of budget for this new business. Setting up a new website with a proper online forum. The sad part is, we will loose all the AMAZING content so far on the FB group. But I feel you. I ONLY use FB for business.

I thought this was interesting. I’m considering trying a subscription- maybe just the digital to start with. I rent a room from a nice family. My room is huge and I even have a stone fireplace even though it doesn’t work. I’m wondering if this could work for me maybe? Do you have other subscribers with similar living situations?

i love you and shays style but inside my home is more like a teeny cabin with knotty pine walls (that wont ever see paint ) and stacked stone wall accents. Learning how to do and old world feel without it looking pioneerish is very challenging.

I remember watching you paint the heart cake and thinking "Wow, she can even paint!" Don't let anyone steal your dreams, especially a reject teacher who most likely was told that they didn't have any or enough talent. I have two friends that gave up on guitar dreams due to a horrible teacher. It is sad that seems to happen far too often. Anyway, you are following and achieving your dreams but to be honest. I hope you make time for some painting too.

Do you know what, whilst watching this, I’ve just had an epiphany. I love STUFF, beautiful thrift treasures, antiques, layers upon layers of beauty and there is the epiphany. It’s not just STUFF., it is beauty. Amassing ephemera is not the acquisition of unnecessary worldly possessions, rather the means of surrounding myself in objet d’art, in beauty and beauty is unquestionably food for our souls. My oldworld cottage is my haven, the Old World Design Society are my people and you, my friend, my inspiration. Xx

I feel like the price is worth what you recieve from the group and the publication! The digital version is avaliable, and about half the price i believe tho don't quote me on that. I KNOW! GAH! As someone who has rarely ever said the words, I find myself vacillating between the two pronunciations and it makes me CRAZY when I do.
