At the time I lived 40 miles from MIS. When they crashed on the parade lap, I was in my seat. My seat in turn two at Indianapolis. Stars and cars my butt.
They all look so tough and serious in this commercial, and then they crashed before the green flag. RIP Greg Moore and Jeff Krosnoff, both of whom would we would lose in later races.
Indycar should make another advertisement like this. I love the simplicity yet sovereignty expressed through this one-shot clip. Full emphasis on the drivers, making them look like heroes, determined to risk their lives in order to win the race. The US 500 was a failure, but this commercial is a great piece of art.
Look, I hate to keep listening to the back and forth on this war... But all I got to say is, "WHO WON THE WAR?" And we now have 1 SERIES AGAIN! Let's move on please...
The US 500. The biggest fiasco in the history of motor racing that exposed to me just what was wrong with CART on so many levels, not the least of which was how it allowed a narrow group of elite superteams to prosper at the expense of a more level playing field. The fact that they had a rule that could allow these drivers to crash out on the pace lap and put a backup car in place in their ORIGINAL STARTING POSITION and could then win the race despite crashing only proved that point. At Indy, if you crash on the pace lap, tough luck you are done for the day. And that's what should have happened to all the drivers who crashed out before the flag fell.
Saying that they have the best drivers... Parade Laps: 13 Cars involved in a crash

@@johnjones5354 1996 Indy 500 was the best if you talk about pure speed. Eddie Cheever did 236+ mph laps in the race.

Next to Moore is André Ribeiro, died 2021 here in Brazil at 55 years old, câncer.
@@mateusrosito3436 RIP Gil De Ferran.
Man. What a crazy time to be an Indy Car fan
Drivers being serious except for Paul Tracy
That is a great piece of racing history! Thanks jimcathexis!

Eddie Cheever, Arie Luyendyk, Tony Stewart, Roberto Guerreo, Michele Alboreto wasn't any worse.
Kinda bashed the 500 entirely there didn't they?
Thank god we have one series again.
The US 500 trophy is a urinal in the speedway museum basement. Who do you think really got bashed?
I mean yeah, that was their point.
We all know the US 500 was srs bsns.
Melhor categoria de monopostos que já existiu!
Crazy how modern this commercial is
This ad did not age well...
It's all bloviated posturing, right up until you wad up half the field on the parade lap.
F1 needs to remake this
What a great lineup of talent there. Too bad a lot of them defected to the other side soon after.
NO FEAR SKECHERS IT'S THE MERRELL FOOTWEAR SHOES PBA 2002 SEASON PBA ON VIVA-TV
Only ones I didn't see in this commercial that competed were Mark Blundell, Gary Bettenhausen and Fredrik Ekblom
I can understand omitting Gary B and Ekblom but why no Blundell? He was a full timer
He might have been recovering from his crash in Rio

CART got bankrupt...
Nascar won the war by gaining a greater market share in the industry and more followers and sponsor dollars
Hapless cart fans were sure mouthy enough through the whole split. If they can't take getting it back now they still haven't grown up.
michael andretti!
pennst24 Thank you for teaching me a new phrase! See, kids and parental watchdog groups? YT *CAN* teach you new words and phrases! ;-d

That's kind of why Tony kicked their ass to begin with.
overly serious to the point of being pretentious....

Well, PT was smiling to the point of almost laughing...
@@l-2112 Kinda like me when I see him racing in SRX now or days.
