One thing I do know is you do NOT want to get into a pitched battle with Finnish infantry in one of THEIR many, massive forests that form a natural barrier to the interior of their country. They attack through the woods at strategic points to divide your force into smaller, isolated groups. Then they overwhelm said groups one by one. Classic Finnish "Motti" tactics, and excellent use of their terrain, allows for Finland to be a very hard nut to crack indeed!

Two of them were pilots: a 1st Lt and a 2nd Lt. They were severely tortured by their capturers.
That leaves three others. No source seems to mention anything about them. I doubt any of those were high ranking officers.

This battle is supposed to be the battle of Tienhaara 22-25.06.1944 when russians tried to advance west from Viipuri. Or then its a false statement to begin with. Good luck finding a finnish film where Finland actually wins a war they historically lost (winter war or the continuation war).
The finns win in this specific movie due to the fact that this movie is about the single largest battle ever fought in the Nordic history, the battle of Tali-Ihantala, which Finland did indeed win. Finland does NOT win a WAR in this film.

@@user-xr4wu4rp2r "The battle for the Mannerheim line" is not exactly a thing. The fighting on the Mannerheim line consisted of numerous battles, all part of a big offensive, not a single big major battle. Here's a map of sort about the actions at the Mannerheim line in february-march 1940, individual battles (equivelant in concept of the battle of Tali-Ihantala during the 1944 offensive) being represented by the yellow explosion-like icons www.talvisota.fi/wp-content/uploads/wg1081-01.jpg
And yes, Finland did not defeat the Soviet army, nor did anyone claim such. Otherwise Finland would've pretty much won the war, which they absolutely did not. Yes, finland did however suspend its advance in the battle of Tali-Ihantala, which is literally the definition of a defensive victory.
If your goal is to stop the enemy from advancing, and the goal of the enemy is to push through the defences and keep on advancing, but their advance is indeed stopped, then it's safe to say the defenders won that specific battle.

We start doing nonsense because we are arguing about terms, not about the essence of the phenomenon.
I want to convey to you one simple idea. In 1940 and 1944 the Finnish army was not finally defeated and Finland was occupied, not because it was difficult for the Soviet army to do so. Finland, as an independent state, was more useful at that time.

Regarding the winter war, the Russians / Soviets are NOT interested in invading for the sake of invasion, Nazi style. They have to have a reason. In the beginning of the Winter war, the Soviets did not know that the karelians (who lived in a province called Karelia formerly owned by Finland and formerly by Sweden and formerly by Imperial russia) liked attending Russian Orthodox church services, and that many Karelians spoke a medieval form of Russian in the Kizhi islands. As the Soviets came in contact with Keralians, they came to know that many ethnic Karelians of Karelia considered themselves as Russian speaking peoples too. No need for Rambo style propaganda videos. Northern Karelia and west Karelia are smaller parts of karelia which stayed with Finland after ww2. The Romanov dynasty built their medieval capital city of saint Petersburg in the area near Karelia for a reason: Southern Karelia is Russian Karelia. Karelian language and their written Karelian in the past years are medieval Russian in Cyrillic script of the 13th century. During Swedish rule, some Karelian people switched to Swedish or Roman script. Other karelians stuck with Cyrillic script when ruled by Sweden. The people there are trying to revive Shakespearean era Russian language, called Karelian language, in Karelia for tourism purposes, even though they speak Russian at home. . The karelians spoke a medieval form of Russian and medieval form of Cyrillic Russian language, and did not mind if visiting people called them "Russians" by mistake. Difference between Karelian and modern Russian is like the difference between Shakespearean English and modern English of England. The people of Russian Karelia province used to write in a medieval form of the Russian language in the 13th century, as indicated by internet search. Near the Finnish border, the government in Saint Petersburg (pronounced Sain - Peter-Boorg in Russia) recently had a demo in about 1935 of new artillery pieces by a Bolshevik manufacturer of artillery gunnery that can hit targets 26 miles from the artillery gun pieces. reason 1) The Finnish soldiers wore military uniforms similar to German Nazi uniforms to a layman. This raised red flags among the people living in Saint Petersburg, The border that time was 26 miles from Saint Petersburg. So they asked the Finns to move the border further away than 26 miles from Saint Petersburg, which to some is preposterous. The Bolsheviks promised to give Finns other lands filled with frozen lakes and pine forests in other areas bordering the two countries if the Finns move further away than 26 miles from Saint Petersburg. Finns turned this offer down, if I remember right from having read about it a few years back. This meant war. In 1926 while under Finnland, the population of Karelia was 57.2 ethnic Russian, Karelians formed about 20 percent of the population probably, as per Wikipedia.com data. In 1939, the ethnic Russian population was 63 percent even while under Fin rule. Finland is a Scandinavian country of pine forests and frozen lakes with a small overall population of 4.7 million or so, similar to the population of greater Boston, and Finland has a modern big area the size of new England states and Pennsylvania state put together. The Karelians were for centuries attended Russian orthodox church. They claim that their current language larelian is a medieval form of Russian language of the medieval times. Russian orthodox church is a congregation of church goers independent of Rome since 988 AD, where the Sunday services and bible talks were similar to ancient Catholic church services, where churches no longer report to Rome since 988 AD. Karelia is now an area partly in Russia and partly in Finland with a native population of Karelian and Sami reindeer shepherds. Some birch bark document shows that the Karelians used medieval russian language in the first half of the 13th century. Written Karelian language is similar to medieval Russian texts of the 13th century and a few other centuries. Karlians are hard core Eastern Orthodox Christians while their language is an ancient form of Russian. If one copies old text of Karelian language and pastes it to Google search engine in "Translate", under from::: enter "Russian", translate to:: English. So, just try translating it to English. the modern English meaning of the Karelian text translates thus, "(in the 13th century, The food of the orthodox Christian Karelian priests should not eat cooked dead reindeer lying on the road killed possibly by someone else who left the scene of the crime." Modern meaning of same translated text == Avoid eating cooked meat of road kill animals." In other words to get a translation of karelian text, to English, just paste the medieval russian looking Karelian text to "Translate screen in Google search of "translate". Even after not considering the ethnic Russian majority in Karelia, the Karelian people there all seem to have Russian first names, like Eleina, Irina, Boris, and do not seem to mind at all being mistaken for being ethnic Russians. The Karelians like being called Russians by mistake, in fact. In other words, Karelia definitely should be in Russia, while west Karelia of Finland and North karelia of Funland should be in Finland, as they are after the winter war. Ethnic Ukrainians of Ukraine do not like being called Russians by mistake, even if many ethnic Ukrainians of Ukraine speak better spoken-Russian, & more fluently than some self styled Russians. An ethnic Karelian may reply to a Rambo type tourist, "I suppose you could say I am an ethnic Russian, Mr. Rambo the racist American tourist. My parents in my parent's village in Karelia taught me to speak a near extinct language called Karelian. We speak Russian at home when tourists are not around. I wear medieval European dresses just in a handful of villages in Kizhi, South Karelia, pilgrim style, like your Amish Christian villagers in your country."
