3 Way Co Axial OB update: Tweeter replaced and set up with sound tests.

I was not overly happy with the compression driver I was using in the Co-Axial OB I built before COVID. It was a compromise at the time trying to squeeze the tweeter down to below its specified frequency. I invested in two Eminence PSD2002S which worked out just fine.

Originally it sounded just like the launch version of CDs - very harsh and 'scratchy'. The final sound was a lot better and more restrained

What is youre favorite by sound? The Co-axial or the Pure Audio Project Trio 15 clone?

I am going to give you one piece of information that may help you, based on similar experiences I have had. The center pole piece with a horn flare on the woofer isn't loading the drivers properly. So the easiest thing to do is to use a smaller driver that doesn't need as much loading. Loading reduces distortion, increases sensitivity, and most of all make a more acceptable frequency plot. Try a JBL 2414H-1 driver to test my theory and proposal.

Yes I sort of thought about that (read about it somewhere) and will implement as you suggest (thanks) when a pair become available here in the UK at reasonable cost , UK import duties and VAT along with high shipping costs from the US would drive the price outside the project budget.

I could not get a pair of JBL2414h here in the UK, well I could via ebay, used but one was made in USA the other Mexico so I went for a new pair of Eminence APT50's. Not the same quality maybe but it made a big difference to the top end achieving near 20k flat.. many thanks.

Very interesting, so do you need 2 dsp units ? I wanted to do something similar but I have a lot of questions, would you be able to help ? I understating the basics but things like how the amp comes in place or this setup are things that I don't understand.

LOL I have already been told 'their not staying' !!! Its a shame as they sound great, big big sound stage and sense of scale & imaging with musicality. I have other speakers parked and ready that 'will' fit in.......eh maybe??
