  • In this video we talk about the treatment differences between STEMIs and NSTEMIs. We talk about why STEMIs are more serious, life threatening conditions and why they require emergent PCI or fibrinolytic therapy. STEMI treatment varies based on whether the patient is brought to a PCI center or a non cath lab equipped facility. Should a provider choose to use fibrinolytic therapy (TNKase), there is a contraindication checklist that must be followed.
STEMIs and NSTEMIs have treatment modalities in common: EKG, IV, labs, Chest XRAY, MONA and MONA. The ultimate treatment of MI is going to the cath lab and getting a stent placed. With these treatments, the AHA has certain recommendations and time goals that must be met.
So if you’re a new grad or just a new ER nurse, get ready to learn what you need to know.
