The price paid for lack of passion is high indeed, especially to the worker, but also to the employer, and the consumer. Poor quality control and substandard customer service, stress, health problems, and addictions, can all result from lack of passion. Is that any way to work or to live?
So change it. Many people don't know what they want to do instead, but don't let that inertia keep you stuck in an empty career. Explore your options -- talk to friends, relatives, strangers. Research career resources. Try something different. Commit time to finding the career that will light your passion for the rest of your life. the problem is that this society made us think that YOU HAVE TO do something. You HAVE TO be successful! You HAVE TO find you passion! BE USEFUL! It won't work for everyone. that's why people are miserable, even those who are successful. Most of the things people think they want is just an illusion and Passion is just an emotion. Sometimes you feel it sometimes you not. And that's OK! Stop judging yourself, love yourself no matter what and stay in the moment as much as possible. No one knows how much time we have on this planet.
I completely agree with you! I find this whole idea of being a total douchebag if you don't have a very strong purpose or passion in your life problematic in itself. I feel life is all about being in the present moment and living it to the fullest and not so much running behind a particular goal.
I also agree that a lot of times what you think you badly want is just an illusion. I have had personal experiences to prove it.

maybe life is just living and there is nothing else to it. Its just that humans have been given a mind which is their greatest asset but also their greatest liability. We are made in such a way that we constantly need something to look forward to, something to achieve, to set goals, to create things etc in order to keep our huge complicated minds busy. its all about getting that weird satisfaction in your mind that one gets while doing certain activities. Do other animals think about what they are gonna spend their entire life doing? nope. they just LIVE! thats all we have to do.
Nah, that's stupid you're just lazy. Just loving your life and not doing anything is not good. Hard work and goals are quite vital to the world and trust me doing hard work now then in the future, it will pay off so do not just ''stay in the moment'' and get out of it to find a better life.
you are so right, ive tried so many things to find my passion and nothing has worked, its has almost been two years, and i always get others telling to go and find something but the thing is that they have found their passion so they dont really understand how much trouble others are going through to find there own passion.

As an overthinker and deep thinker through the help of therapy I have realised that despite my interest in thinking, analysing, etc., this was actually obsessive; a way (an addiction) to numb the anxiety I felt. Over the years I let go of doing stuff more and more, thinking more and more until my life became so empty and isolated and 'safe'. Now I am trying to think less and do more; very scary, but very good and also.. fun.!
Your passion is not a job ‘outside’ of you. Your passion for things comes from a certain mindset that is rooted within. You can learn how to be passionate about anything if you decide it. Yes, some jobs are tougher/more boring than others but you can do it. What it really comes down to is whether your personality aligns with a certain work schedule, belief, goal, or tempo. You can be a passionate garbage collector or a passionless piano player, it’s all about your attitude.
this is so hard, because you need money to exist. I can't quit my job because I'm self-employed. I really don't know how to solve this...
He's actually a bit misleading and discouraging here. You don't need to make as drastic of a change at first. Just dip your toes, try something as a hobby or a project for weekends.
before coming to this video, I did some reading and saved these three articles so far to follow up on. Most of them suggets the same thing - don't rush into anything drastic. Try in small steps first.

I'm in the same boat. Life will hand us the opportunity at the right time. I watched a Ted talk where the woman worked as a waitress for ten years before someone from customer service offered her a stepping stone job to her dream job in sales. The opportunity just found her, because she couldn't go out and find it herself, and she didn't get the job based on her efforts or personality type, because she kept getting turned down for ten years. Even though life coaches, teachers, philosophers, and scholars say you need to change who you are to be successful, or encourage something different in yourself to be successful, it took them so long to be handed something by chance that success isn't based on them at all. They just like to insist that that's what got them success because it's the easiest thing to latch on to as the reason for their success. So you csn either work yourself to death being someone different and get handed success in ten years, or you can go at your own pace being yourself and get handed success in ten years.
I have no passions and every job is hateful to me. I cant imagine ever being happy.
@@someonesomeone25 Work and life are two different things. I don't think a lot of people are happy with their job, but it pays the bills. I think a lot of jobs are just that way. Happiness doesn't factor in.

Get to know who you are in advance before you search your passion. And dont forget to choose every options deliberately, consciously. Be aware with anything you do and comes to you.
You are perfect where you are. Observe and appreciate yourself. Listen to your heart. Allow for the natural flow of your heart’s inspiration. “Finding your passion” can feel like a chore, demand or imposition just like so much else society has pushed us to. I’ve been a “self-helper” since I was 16 (& I’m 45 now 🤫) I Love it. It’s taught and done wonderful things for me in my life but I’m still an everblooming work in progress...and I’m thrilled with that. The last thing I want to ever be is close minded and “stuck in my ways/my way or the highway” type of person. I’m fully enjoying your vids and your calm voice as well. i started with hiphop music when i was 13 used to write raps every day just to vent my frustrations and hate for every thing kept at it ever since sacrificed jobs, money, social life just to spend time in the studio creating songs, recording ,and mixing, i'm 24 now and i can honestly say the studio is my only real passion, all the years of work, dedication, learning , sleepless nights, and i wasn't getting paid to do it i just had the urge to create no matter what. all these years later i've performed something like 70 times over the last 2 years, and about to perform at the biggest event of my career , something like 10,000 people attending. everyone used to say i wouldn't get this far, i've had to survive, drug addiction, gangs, convictions, possible prison time, and even near death experiences, but guess what i survived it all. Peace to the world and may the world bring you Peace.

My issue with finding my passion, is that I could never have enough money or resources to find it. I've taken more than 100 free online courses ranging from religion to science, and still have no inkling of an idea what it is. Do I have the skills necessary to work in the health field? Nope. Do I have the ability to drop 40-100 grand on college education, just because I want to have real life experience just to see if something is my passion? AND! What if my passion is writing and having deep conversations about life's mysteries? What if my passion is playing video games? What if a person's passion is to collect dead animals and taxidermy them? I saw that on tv once. What if my passion isn't something I want to make money doing. What if it me having no passion is okay, and I can have a bunch of interests that I can live with or without? Thing is, my passion could be out there. BUT I think it is important to try and find ways to be happy with where you are now, and stop giving into this idea that you are a failure for not having a passion, yet, or never.
Funny you should mention writing and video games. I became a professional video game designer because I was passionate about game. I am also now working on writing a book which I publish.

You're mixing apples with oranges, which is what most people do. If one's passion is reading books, don't say "Write a book!". The passion is reading, not writing. If someone's passion is playing videogames, it doesn't mean they enjoy designing games. Playing =/= designing. I find this confusion in people over and over. I studied english because I love learning English, and everyone says I should teach english, that makes no sense. I hate teaching (tried and hated every minute of it), because my passion is learning the language. I have many examples like that. People need to stop twisting words and mixing things that don't really relate.
Well, I do agree with you. It's difficult, because most people, like myself, knowing they need to make money, would like a career they are passionate about, or at least like a lot, so that the majority of their lives aren't miserable. So, we take into consideration our passions, and maybe we can apply those to a career. I get what you are saying though. I love cooking, but I don't necessarily want to cook for a hundred people I don't know, where I most likely wont have a say on the menu. Others might chime in and say, well why don't you open your own restaurant, and I;m like, I don't want to own a restaurant, I just want to cook, share a meal with loved ones, and see their smiles and oos and ahhs
You should check out the work of Barbara Sher, you sound like a Scanner personality. There are people whose have a passion for trying many different things and that's fine. Embrace it :)

Something strange had happened in my life, I am a student of medical school at Nicaragua country, after started watching you're videos, I became a student leader and the teacher pet, after all today my goal is to learn where is my passion and how can this help my patients. You are the best.

I've never realised that finding a passion is this hard for a lot of people until i met someone that is slightly older than me but still does not know what to do with his life.
I knew myself when I was a teenage because I knew exactly what i'm good at and what I love. so instantly I realised what i wanted to be. in many years, I spent so much time and effort trying to be a vet. but at some point in college, I found out that I couldn't handle many aspects of this job so I changed to science, but still stick around doing something for the animals.

Glad you've made the point about finding your passions being a task within itself; it's not always a spontaneous 'spark' that people expect it to be. It does take work. it's trial and error - not just something one is born with, which is where I think many people get stumped.

I'm 49 - went to school all the way up to college had jobs not careers - tried specialty classes like cooking, holistic, gardening and I found interest in this stuff but not enough to make it a passion or career... I am to the point where I have no idea why I'm here - or still here in this body, time or space... Now what???

I would critique one point- going to college. Personally, I was aimless going into college and I was aimless when I got out of college. I ended up wasting a lot of time and a LOT of money. I think self-exploration with those questions in mind of what you like and dislike are the most important thing.

Sραякz `` Not quite. I'm in the Army now. I thought it might be a good fit, but that hasn't turned out to be the case. What I'm looking into trying next is something called search engine optimization that basically just involves ranking websites in search engines. I have experience doing web design and it appeals to me because it seems like I can do most of the work solo and it has good potential for profit. I think that one of the most important things is to find something you're curious enough about to develop deep domain expertise in and have the potential to be really good at doing.

Absolutely agree. It never comes that quick, most important is to be highly aware of your identity, have the state to be comfortable only on your own without any need for external stimulation that will make you temporarily happy, let the past go, do not worry about trying new things, jobs and places which helps you to come up with new ideas feeding your future passion. awesome man. thanks. I've been trying to find my passion for so long. I've served in the military for six years. went to school for advertising and marketing for a year. and did some sales job for a little bit. now the journey continues and i thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

And by the way, there may be many reasons as to why people doesen't find their passion. It doesn't nessesarily have to be that you should try to taste more from the buffet. It can also come from a sort of unhappiness due to a bad living conditions that kind of blurs what you want in life. If you are sad, negative, lack energy, of course it is hard to find your passion, even though that you might be living it.

My dad was really lucky when it came to his passion. He went for Bachelor's in Business Administration in college and took one coding course (what made him even luckier was that his college was the only school in India that required computer programming to get the B.Com degree) and that was it. Like the second day of that class he knew that code was his calling. From then he started venturing in AI and writing code for fun. He doesn't do coding for a job anymore, he's more in the business side, but the passion is still strong within him. He told me he used to wake up at 1 am spontaneously and start coding an idea he had. My wish is to find my passion like he did. I kinda like tech and programming, but it's not something I'm *passionate* about....I just kinda like it and find it interesting.

It's actually a very common thing nowadays....it just wasn't that common back when my dad did it :P
Also, I would highly recommend IT....its like a fusion between business and tech

Try going from job to job and experiment sure sounds good.. but it's my experience that you don't get jobs if you don't have prior experience. So that whole jumping from job to job seems.. impossible.

What I'm trying to do is get a general overview of all the career categories on a particular career website. And then imagine myself in those jobs. Even maybe will watch some videos like training or interactions in those jobs like such as Flight Controllers. I know I'll dislike it because I don't want to be around complex technology and analytics. Then move on to the jext category. This video makes a very good argument by connecting find your passion to taste testing food. The one thing he could have rather said is imagine rather than physically going to many jobs to actually try them. But great video overall.
and once u get the experience for the job u try it takes long time and once ur there and having that job , even if u find its not ur passion its not easy to just drop it and find a new one, becaus then ur whole life could end up with looking for your passion until u drop dead with nuthing more left behind then your chase of passion that u never found

What do you think about the idea that each person has a finite capability to be passionate about things? If this is right some people may never reach the degree of passion it takes to change their lives, simply because they don't have the hability to love something enough. They would keep changing the object of their passions, thinking they haven't found it yet, when in fact the problem was inside themselves...
That's exactly who I am. I always had low self esteem, still do. 20 years ago I came to realize "Hell, if I learn to play the guitar, I'll have girls at my feet." And I've learned to play and thought that it was my hobby but I really refuse to spend lots of hours to learn sheet music, scales or how an electric guitar actually works. I really don't care and, it seems, I never have cared. It was all caused by my low self esteem and the will to feel better about myself. I realized this only now. I have some colleagues who, apparently, have found their passions and they sometimes come to me to share some details about what they have done, what they will do...and I try to picture myself being like them...and I really don't care. There's just nothing I really value enough in this life because I know that it'll all pass when the final particle of air escapes my lungs. Sometimes I have to laugh about those "life coaches/gurus" saying things like "join my course to discover the UNLIMITED abundance in YOUR LIFE." And then I think "how do UNLIMITED and LIFE go in the same sentence?" Life is limited - it's one of its characteristic features. It just ends.Full stop. So who are they bull***ting saying things like that? I really don't appreciate this life. Even as a teenager I often thought, passing elderly people on the street "Lucky man. He'll die in approximately 4-5 years and he'll be done. If I'm unlucky, I still have some 60 years to live, trying to fill my days with pointless things." Then, however, I still hoped that it's just because I was young and that my point of view would change...Well, 20 years later, nothing has changed. I've done all the socially correct things (college, a job, a car, living on my own) but i honestly don't know why I wake up every morning. I don't love myself and my life consists rather of time-fillers than consciously chosen activities. And yes, I tried to do my research, I tried to read things, I watched new TV channels, I listened to new music...but nothing works. For the past 20 years I've been gradually losing hope that it'd ever change but in the last couple of weeks I noticed that my hope has been dying much faster than ever. I don't know what'll happen to me. I have no plan and I'm tired of coming up with one. I sometimes find it creepy when I for example watch interviews with some musicians who committed suicide only to discover that they often reached the same conclusions that I've reached now. I remember being a kid and listening to those interviews and not really being able to relate. And now, it's become all so relatable that it gives me chills!!! I'm not actively thinking of killing myself but, in some creepy way, it seems as if my life/karma/destiny (whatever we call it) has already made a choice for me. It feels like I'm already on the death's route and the only question is not if but when. I never believed in destiny or this kind fo stuff (and still don't want to believe it) but, I don't know....things are getting creepy recently.

Nice video, but feels like you are talking to someone who is starting their life. I might be wrong, but, after watching this video, I could bet you have no kids. Right? My passion in life was actually having kids. Now I have them and need to find a professional passion. With kids, though, this is much more difficult. Being a stay at home mom, even though I love my babies, is not something that would made me feel complete. I've been talking to people, love in a different country, trying and trying and what I feel is like too much stuff makes my eyes sparkle, but not one special thing that really, really ignites my passion.
Live in a box: No good. Isolation: Is good. Same same to me.
As I see it: If you live in a box you get a way from the external world, other people, other opinions, and when you do that you get time to think about what you want in life- what your passion is-because you are not influenced by everbody elses opinions and views about what you.

But what if I can't just switch jobs? What if trying out a new job I'm very interested in requires 4+ years of college? how can I sample it to see if I like it if I'm not qualified to do it yet?

Start reading about that thing that you got interested in, and see if you stay interested. I hope I helped you.
Volunteer in those fields so you can get a better idea, there are tons of volunteer work in most fields if you look.

No, but your job should be your passion.

I know I used to like outdoor survival, but unless you are bear grylls, I can't see how that could make money. I enjoy working with materials. I guess carpenter type job might work. Leo, you are absolutely right. But it seems that you are an intuitive type who likes travelling and new experience. Yu are probably ENTJ (MBTI). However, there are many people out there who are feeling or sensation types and who are just not inclined to look for a PASSION, because they have (example) a very highly developed FEELING function, which allows them to enjoy smallest things in life and be happy. What do you think?
I see what you are getting at. I love the "small things". They aren't overwhelming, but still quite pleasureable.
I am actually an INTP and so I would agree. I really want to "get out there" but, damn it's a disheartening process.
I think that FEELING types ESPECIALLY are more inclined to search for passion because they (usually) prioritize emotional fulfillment over hard cold facts and logic (That doesn´t mean that they aren´t logical though)
Fi in IXFPs for example is a function that is very oriented towards Authenticity. Im a feeling type too and I´ve known for a long time that I want to do something I´m passionate about. And while Sensors might be more averse to change or new experiences than Intuitives that doesn´t mean that they can´t benefit from change or new experiences or that change isn´t sometimes vital for they lives. Every type can experience stagnation in their lives and being stuck in a rut, that´s why change can be important. This video is directed at the majority of the population and since sensors make up the biggest share of the total world population this video is also for them. (if not especially for them)
And imo it´s also important to remember that the MBTI doesn´t determine what we can or can´t do in life, those 4 letters just determine or preferences not our potential. They shouldn´t be considered as fix boundaries that dictate our life.

+Kamyuyon Man..... I can relate as well, going trough something similar. Lately I've been seing these video's, about, do what you love, find your passion, but nobody explains in detail how to find your passion! Come on! I even know what my talents are, but I don't know where to put them to good use or what I really like. I guess it's just about trying things, getting out your comfort zone, and maybe relaxing for a bit too. While you are bussy to get your shit straight, keep focussing on trying to find your passion, without trying too hard, don't lose your hope. But know when to push yourself out of your comfortzone, and when you finaly found something that feels right, when you get in the zone if you are bussy with that activity, then explore it some more untill you know it's right for you and then don't be afraid to go all the way. Life is a journey mate! Sometimes it's just about letting go, accepting where you are, and let the waves take you, but not be afraid to change course. A guy named Elliot Hulse in the video '' The Answer to all of your problems'' used this metaphor on finding answers:
If you are searching in a dark room for an object with a flash light, you might find what you are looking for eventually with much focus and concentration. But there is another way wich is like if you switch on the light, you are not actively searching for the answer in such a concentrated way, but more passively, allowing illumation and finding the object more easily.
Remember, if you have a hard time relaxing or letting go, try to meditate, seriously does wonders. Meditating not only relaxes you, it clears the mind and soul while connecting it to your body again, wich might help you decide on things or stop stressing too much about problems or dilemma's.
This is going to sound really really dumb lol, but IMO just because a certain job makes you happy doesn't mean it's actually meaningful to you. I think that PASSION truly comes when you're doing something meaningful or simply when you find meaning in your work. That's what will push you out of bed. Did you know that teachers are, in fact, some of the lowest paid professionals? It's so sad....But rarely does anyone teach simply for the money. No, it's for the passion they have. They find MEANING behind educating the next generation of people, encouraging the next Einstein or Newton or maybe the next Martin Luther King. Do they always like it? No. Teaching can be one of the most stressful jobs in the world (but what isn't LOL) however it can also be one of the most meaningfu. Another (perhaps better) example: people go to the Army and become a soldier because they want to have a meaningful job and that's the best way that they feel they can help people out. They find meaning in doing so. But the military can be a rough time. First of all, the training alone is almost *impossible* (as stated by some of my friends who applied but didn't make it in). The pay is very low, but of course, the worst part is that people die. From what I've heard, the feeling of killing someone is not nearly as horrible as the feeling of sending a friend to do a task which ends up getting him/her killed. That's the worst. Anyway, many Vets will tell you that they hate it but they feel that it's the best way they can serve their country (depending on who you ask).
Whether you like your job or not shouldn't necessarily dictate how passionate your are, but if you truly are passionate about your job, it should be the most meaningful part of your day.
