About The Shore:
THE SHORE is a first person story driven game with an atmospheric environment and narrations. You will encounter mysterious creatures and unravel the secrets behind them. Strong elements of horror, struggle to survive an unknown world that will make you question your own sanity.
The Shore is a game about the mystery of the unknown, set on a forbidden island filled with horrors. Based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft, the story features many of his best-known creations and more. Players will see the world through the eyes of Andrew, a father in search of his lost daughter. Players will experience The Shore through immersive, atmospheric gameplay and encounter the most nightmarish Lovecraftian entities, all while solving mind-bending puzzles. Where its referencing a Crawling One, when talking about your artifact, I believe it means Nyarlahotep, who is known as the Crawling Chaos, he is also known as the Black Pharoh which explains why its an Black Tentacle pyramid.

The giant Deep One flinging its arms around a huge obelisk is a reference to the HP short story "Dagon". Its one of his lesser known ones and is often confused with Shadow Over Innsmouth so I'm impressed he included that.

I doubt a humanoid with some writhing appendages would be THAT incomprehensible. His humanoid form (both the actual human form, and the twisted thing with multiple appendages you usually see) is more akin to him bringing himself down to our level

@Alex A Exactly, they're supposed to be unimaginable, things that we could never ever comprehend and would drive us insane yet they act in the most generic way possible. The game looks awesome and the audio is very good as well but the story is meh. There is a lovecraftian movie on the making btw.
The first one we met was Nyarlathotep, from the small sculpture in the beginning (that gave us jumpscare). Then he made us choose a form for it, the exact one we saw in the jumpscare. He made us release a monolith, dagon, cthulu and possibly now Shub-niggurath.

That chase sequence is proper cosmic horror, and it can only be done in a video game.
The fact that youbtake damage from it (in a very video gamey way), shows that it's dangerous, the sheer scale of it makes it clear that this isn't a monster you can fight, and the way it distorts and moves and contorts makes it impossible to decipher what you're actually looking at.
It's an insurmountable and existential threat you can't comprehend. That's peak cosmic horror.

Basically, the Dark Shadow is Nyarlathotep. Cthulhu straight up tells you that Nyar is up to something and is using you to gain what it wants. Something which surprised me since DS mentioned “The Crawling One” as though it was a separate entity, despite Nyarlathotep being the “Crawling Chaos”

Seeing all these lovecraftian horrors manifest in this game made me realize how much the game Path of Exile borrows from H.P. Lovecraft.

Love the intensity from this episode. Actually felt like I was playing and terrified this time. Love this series. Decided I want this game now
I always loved the idea of Azathoth literally spawning a dream universe as it sleeps and entities within that dreams play flutes to keep him asleep, and should he wake, all of what we humans know as reality just.... stops. The one that keeps us existing must remain asleep lest his dream and thus OUR reality will end.

This game seems absolutely incredible. Great art direction, music, an interesting plot. Totally much more than the walking simulator that I thought it was going to be.
you are correct about Cthulhu voice sound. It should have been deeper and bigger and better without the accent to differentiate from the dark shadow voice. But up to that point, things were pretty impressive. Reverse reverb on lots of the voices and pitching them down and doubling to make it really creepy... I'm impressed that this guy made the whole game. He should have gotten another actor tho to keep all the monsters from sounding like him. But besides that, I give him 9.9 out of 10 stars.

This is the weirdest grossest game I have ever seen. Nothing in this game makes sense.
So the giant fish man was probably Dagon, ruler of the deep ones and one of Cthulhu's direct servants. And upon freeing Cthulhu in the other realm, there is mention of the "Eye of the Watcher", and at 24:13 they call the artifact the "Eye of the Gatekeeper". That sounds to me like Yogsothoth, though I don't know if he has any interest in waking Cthulhu...

Beware that some stuff in here might count as spoilers for yall
I believe the energy pyramid you carry is some elder thing's device (after all, on the other episode you were helped by one, after it killed the beast chasing you)
The giant fish monster is Dagur, the "god" of the Deep Ones (They worship both Cthulhu and Dagur, but it is theorized Dagur is just a mutated Deep One)
I think "The Crawling One" might be either reffering to Nyarlathotep or Dagur (I mean, Nyarlathotep is already an outer god, so it wouldn't make sense for him to seek "a higher throne)
The humanoid creatures might be half-breeds of Deep Ones and humans (The Deep Ones in the mythos like to do the deed with humans forcefully)
And the creatures chasing you could be just random creatures that don't have a significant impact on the lore, or they could be The Dark Young, worshippers/offspring of Shub
And now that I think about it, many of the beasts chasing you throughout the game could indeed be offspring of Shub that survived (it eats them) or just beings placed there by idk, the elder things or some other eldritch race/abomination
Oh also forgot to mention
The symbols you keep hitting with the laser beam could be symbols used to keep Cthulhu asleep, because they are under some spell cast by Cthulhu on R'lyeh

Alright, on the site of funding for The Shore, if you pay around 50$ you get access to Shoggoth's printable model, the beings chasing you around are Shoggoths, but there are also Dark Young on the game
and the artifact you hold (the eye of the gatekeeper) is probably reffering to yog sothoth, the grandpa of cthulhu and an outer god
And now that I think even more about it, I believe it is Nyarlathotep or Leviathan speaking to the protagonist (nevermind, it is nyarlathotep)
on 3:17 the pyramid you carry has an elder sign on it, which some people interprete it as a protection and others a sign that people use to summon hastur and then become his undead servant
and now for the ultimate theory, the protagonist is a descendant of an eldritch abomination (like hp lovecraft in the mythos is) thats why he wont go insane
So on the past part your basically saying someone cheated on there wife/husband with an elder god

This is one of the best lovecraftian games I’ve seen in a long while, second only to Darkest Dungeon.
its got overall high quality and a great start, but the writing kinda flops on portraying the great old ones in a way that makes them feel like great old ones.
Definitely better than most of its competitors tho - sinking city and call of cthulhu were severe let downs.
And i do agree that darkest dungeon outclasses it, by far - in story, gameplay, style and soundtrack
