Excellent portrayal. I'm a 33 year Veteran of the American military, my Dad was in the Battle of the Bulge. Showing the human side of the German "soldaten" is a masterpiece touch. Most Veterans realize that soldiers of ANY Country fight first for their friends in Combat with them and secondly for their Country. We respect our enemy because they are doing the best job they can, just like us.
agreed! I,m also a Veteran , my grandfather served throughout the war, he always spoke of the German soldiers with respect. He was a Medic and actually treated some German wounded and he said they were the same as our troops, they had families and wanted to go home. its Politicians who start wars and the soldiers who fight them. A shame that with all the advancements of mankind that war is still an option.

If you’re 33, then you were born in 1986, battle of Bulge took place in 1944/45, your father had to be at least 18 to serve in the military, so that would mean that he’d would have to be born in at least 1926 or earlier. 86 - 26 = (at least) 60 years... wow, your father must have been really wild for his age.

Yeah, I wouldn't have liked shooting at the Jerries. Of course I would also of not liked the things they did. We called them "Jerries". They called us "Amis", God only knows what that means.

This short movie about WW 2 did an excellent job of projecting a real battle scene a lot of realism that pulled us right into the action.This included the death of young men that were part of a war that brought tears and sorrow to those at home when the news came of their death. We can only feel and understand what the men on both sides of the war suffered, one would have to have been their to really know.
Kudos! I like your attention to detail like how the Germans would walk holding their weapon in the right hand. I also like how you captured that snowy and miserable winter of 1944. One of the coldest in recorded history.

Excellent portrayal of war . The exhausting slog with heavy weapons and equipment , the fear and tension that any moment you may be fired upon was convincingly done . Plus no false heroics and an attention to detail . A fine short movie . Well done to all involved .
Skvělá práce. Málokdy se povede těmto kratším, nízkorozpočtovým projektům trefit natáčení tak, aby fakt pořádně sněžilo a vydrželo to celý natáčení. Ale tady se to povedlo a výsledek, díky kombinaci prostředí a dobré filmařiny, stojí za to (zimní bitvy prostě mají atmosféricky něco nepopsatelně fascinujícího a málokdy jsou vidět, ať už ve filmu, v reenactmentu, nebo třeba na airsoftě).
Mockrát děkujeme. Podobné reakce nám vlévají sílu do žil v dalších projektech. Počasí nám skutečně vyšlo na jedničku, ale neslo to sebou i řadu komplikací. Vzhledem k tomu, že přes noc napadlo kolem jednoho metru sněhu a silně mrzlo, tak jak přesuny, tak spolehlivost techniky byla dost problematická. :)

I've just discovered from reading the comments I have previously watched this a whole year ago, well I've watched it again and I'm still really impressed and whilst I'm sure there wasn't a big budget it is so professionally filmed it looks like there was one. This is an excellent film.

Unless you've actually done something like it yourself, you don't realize just how physically and mentally exhausting just moving through the snow like that is. Everyone thinks of the fighting but most of an infantryman's job is just crossing the terrain. I really like that they showed a lot of that in this film.

The Heer was just like our GI's. They fought for the country and for each other. Politics made the war and the foot soldier took the land and finally PAX. This is an outstanding short film. It shows a piece of war that has not really been explored. Just like in the US and other countries, the mail brought either sorrow or happiness. I was part of the military for 34 years. Many times I had to go to a sailor's home and tell his survivors that he had died. It was not easy. The common person hates war, only the politicians love it.

K98's were far more reliable according a Leningrad veteran. The MP 40's usually got the slide full with snow and he didn't say much about the MG34 with which they were equipped at the time.

Well done. The small unit tactics and letter home made it all seem real.
Very poignant, and a realistic portrayal. The sound of the MG-42 is frightening, just as it was described. I think of this film as made in the spirit of "All Quiet on the Western Front." The connection of the Sudentenland through to the violence in the Ardennes is well thought out.

Der Film ist ja toll, im Winterzeit aufgenommen, wie in wahrheit der Situation, die Umgebung, die deutsche und die Alliierte Uniformen , alles perfekt. Und die artillerie lauten in der Ferne ist super.

Great short film. One request, can we get an uplifting ending to one of these? Some of these German soldiers survived the war and lived long happy lives. Maybe one with and old veteran recalling his experience. Just a thought.
This is an excellent piece of work written with great sensitivity and creativity, ok, there may be bits the purists can't overlook but it has real atmosphere.

This is very good short war movie
A couple of years ago, I got lost winter hiking in the area around Manderfeld, Losheimer Graben (border with Germany, the Our valley), and it was very scary as with the snow, every corner you turn looks like where you just came from and I kept thinking, just across that hill, and I'll be back on track...which I wasn't and this lasted for another 3 hours and it was getting dark. Now add enemy toops trying to kill you on top of that...nightmare. The dark forests there still have an eerie vibe to them. Especially in winter.

Well done. On a personal note, it's really nice to see one of these made with a native speaker instead of some American dork torturing the German language. A couple minor quibbles: a German soldier would not have been allowed to write about Wacht am Rhein prior to the attack. Also, if this was an SS unit, why were some wearing Wehrmacht uniforms? Finally, would it not have been very likely that SS troops engaged in Wacht am Rhein would have winter smocks on? But like I said, these are quibbles. Im Grossen und Ganzen sehr beeindrueckend!

@@konradheumann8342 Jaja, alle W-SS Einheiten war ganze Operation Wacht am Rhein ohne Winterkleidung. Natürlich gibt es auch in Ardennen einige Ausnahmen, aber es gab keinen Masseneinsatz. Wendejacke und alle andere erfolgte im folgenden Einsatz in Ungarn.
