Thanks to all who make such video's! My replacement surgery went fine. I choose the mechanical valve. I'm 58 years old and doing fine. 1st time I ever heard the valve, I thought the faucet in the bathroom was dripping. The worst part about getting the valve? Wasn't the recovery. The scar is sensitive but anyone with lung issues getting the surgery would find caughing or sneezing VERY uncomfortable at 1st. Recovery took me about 3 weeks as they had to go replace my drain tube after removal to remove excess fluid off my chest. The ONLY uncomfortable event I had was 1 nurse, who thought she was being helpful, but was tossing me round.
Great video. Thanks for this. The last surgeon mentioned that if a patient has the valve clip then later needs surgery that the subsequent surgery is more complex. Is this because the clip is now in the way or removing it causes more damage?
Thanks for the kind words about the video! Yes, there are clip explant procedures that can be performed. We would encourage you to seek a super-specialist to determine next steps in your treatment (if needed).
Hello sir my mother had mitral valve replacement surgery in 2019 but now in 2024 she has some residual clots on valve ring result of which she had 2 brain strokes. Kindly advice sir why is this happening? What is the life expectancy after mitral valve replacement surgery?
Hi, You raise a really great question. Unfortunately, as a patient advisory group, we are not trained or capable of providing specific medical advice for your mother. That said, we would strongly encourage you to discuss this question with her medical team. Regarding life expectancy after mitral valve replacement surgery, here is a video that you may want to watch about that topic - th-cam.com/video/7NB3OvUXrGk/w-d-xo.html. Hope that helps!
Hi Pravin, You raise a really great question. Unfortunately, as a patient advisory group, we are not trained or capable of providing specific medical advice. That said, we would strongly encourage you to discuss this question with your medical team. If you are not getting information that you are comfortable with then perhaps you should get a second opinion to validate and support next steps in the treatment process. We so sorry that we cannot be of more immediate help to you. Our thoughts are with you and your dad!
