  • The MitraClip is a minimally invasive alternative for mitral valve repair in patients who are unable to safely undergo open heart surgery. Interventional cardiologist Dr. Vivek Rajagopal and cardiologist Dr. Randy Martin discuss how the transcatheter mitral valve repair procedure has revolutionized the heart valve team’s approach in helping patients at prohibitive risk for surgery. www.piedmont.org/valvelearning

    I have mitral valve regurgitation and a lot of days I have a hard time breathing. I deal with chest pains and tightness in my left arm. Lately my heart doctor has had me do a lot of test to see where we go from here. I have an appointment on January 25th to get results from all these test. I pray everything is good so I can go on with my life without all the issues I'm going through now.

      I have the same condition, but my Doctor told me the Heart Valve Repair procedure is 50/50… I find it hard to breathe most times, I have chest pains… it’s terrible, even with my routine meds. God help me

    Thank you for this fantastic video! The imaging you included was so instructional for patients who have some basic fluency in nomenclature of the heart. I found it very helpful.

    They did not mention angioplasty or catheterization procedure. They used 2D and 3D echo imaging. Under the x-ray maybe they controlled the cable entry into the valves and touched and repaired the valves.

    What is better. I need mitral valve repair with OHS and I am scared to death of developing Pump Head from the heart lung machine. Mitral clip isn't available for people my age. Why are they still using simple wire to close sternotomy ? Why not use sternalock? Wire sounds medieval.

    A question for the doctors. Why is this procedure only for prohibitive risk patients? Why not for all patients? This procedure is probably a lot less risky than open heart surgery, so Why cant all patients benefit from reduced risk? is it because the mitral clip does not last long? Is it the case that placing in a younger patient makes no sense if the clip can only be expected to last 5 to 10 years? And not a big worry for older patients, because they are on their way out soon anyways?

    • @WindTurbineSyndrome
      @WindTurbineSyndrome 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Stupid FDA only want to use it in frail patients who could not undergo traditional Open heart surgery and may not live long. Fit younger they use the expensive very traumatic OHS which takes a long time to recover from.
