    this video speaks to me bro.
    last time I tried salomon's, it was the quest 4d hiking boot, and I couldn't even get my foot in past the ankle because it was so narrow. I've traditionally been doomed to wear those terribad white fake-leather 4e clodhoppers, but something in the design and fit of uppers changed drastically in the last couple years, and suddenly a world of regular width shoes actually make it on to my foot, instead of just getting hung up at the mouth of the ankle.
    also I haven't had the benefit of regular footbeds in probably 15 years because my arches collapse if I look at them funny. the whole "step-in/shoestore-only" "comfort" gets completely disregarded by default because I stick something else in there as soon as I get them. if I'm honest, it actually has been an interesting experience trying all these new shoes because the footbeds stay as a constant (to the aftermarket ones I use), and I can really experience the differences between different shoes' midsoles.

    I think comfortability comes from how much you notice the shoe is on or more the components of the shoe, the less you notice it... including while running...the more comfortable it is.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's a very vague term, which is why I don't like to use it. Some people mean how plush is it? Some people mean how good is it for casual wear? Some people mean how roomy in the toe box is it?
      but sometimes, it's the word that just works.

    Ha ha! Pants means underpants in the UK :D Anyway, good video on a very relevant topic! I research all of my shoes online and, to be guaranteed that I'll then get that shoe in my size and colour of choice, it's just easier to buy online too. Here in the UK we don't have (at least in my experience) brand superstores such as Nike, Adidas or whatever. Instead we have big chain stores like JD Sports that stock a bit of everything or smaller specialist shops with limited stock. So there's no guarantee you'll get what you want if you rock up. Online tends to be cheaper but the trade-off is that you are indeed buying blind and risk having to faff about with returning goods (sometimes at cost) and buying again. Through this often arduous process I have learnt that CONSISTENCY is actually more valuable than "correct" sizing. For me Nike are the only brand that are consistent AND true to size (I'm talking shoes only). Must be their superior quality control over items sourced from different countries. If I buy my size 10 I know they'll fit. I must admit this partially explains why I'm such a Nike fanboy. Adidas are usually a half size up, although their consistency isn't 100%. In my experience Asics are all over the shop. Nike tend to be wide, Adidas narrow, although for me width seems to have no bearing on the size I need, but then I have narrow feet. I just go with the "rule of thumb", i.e. having a thumb's width between my big toe and the end of the shoe. The only caveat to that rule is with racing flats and faster models, which I have accepted tend to be slightly more fitted.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that consistency is really important.

    I always try it on at a store before I order online to minimize the hassles of returning back and forth, not an easy thing to do with international orders. By the way I usually wore size 8.5 but for Peg 35 size 9, and size 8.5 for Turbo. Interesting, you said just the opposite of me.

  • @vaxick
    @vaxick 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Pro tip for the Peg Turbo's, the reason your toes are being squeezed from the top is due to the thick insole Nike puts in them. Stick a slimmer one in and the issue should go away. :)

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tried walking around in them without the insole, and they felt great. But the seam connecting the midsole and the upper would have been too troublesome to run in.

    • @vaxick
      @vaxick 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kofuzi I know from a previous video, you said you like to stick to the factory insole, but in this case, it's worth sticking a slimmer one in there as it'll alleviate that specific issue with the shoe.

    • @vaxick
      @vaxick 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kofuzi I actually stuck an old pair of Nike insoles in mine because I had the same issue. In terms of new ones, I'd probably look at the Superfeet Run Comfort or the Run Comfort Thin. I know their site has a store locator so I'd say find a store who sells them and take your Turbo insole with you to see which one you think would be more idea for toe height. The best part of those insoles is they will outlast your Turbos so if you end up wanting another pair, you'll be all set.

    My true foot length is a 9.5 but I can rarely fit into that size unless the shoe is wide. My feet are on the low end of being wide. 90% of my shoes are 10 although most of my Nike's are 10.5. The odd exception is the Pegasus Turbo, which fits me much better than the regular Peg 35 which I find too narrow at size 10. But the Peg Turbo fits me really well at size 10, although the toe box is shallow which doesn't bother me for running but I think would annoy me if this was a casual shoe. Like you, I tried a size bigger and my feet were swimming, so I'll live with the shallow toe box. Oddly, in Timberlands I need to size down to a 9, and even then there is enough room for some thick socks.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's interesting about your Turbo experience.
      I don't know if there's really a pattern or if I'm just making it up, but it seems like smaller sizes, like mine, seem to run small. but the larger sizes, about 10 and up seem to be "true to size" or even a bit big.

  • @DevelopingNL

      I typically get the same running shoe size in most of my videos. the best thing that you can do for your foot is to get it measured at a running store.
      although some people do have to switch sizes between brands or between models, for the most part, shoes are true to size.

    I finally figured out why I wasn't loving the Vomero. It does not follow Nike's 'tradition' of sizing compared to the Pegasus, Zoom Fly, Vaporfly, etc. Ever since I switched from 10.5 to 11 in both New Balance and Nike my feet soreness, toe soreness, and black toenails (I know, nasty), all those issues went away. So naturally going with an 11 size Vomero would be the right call. Wrong, Vomeros seem to be sized bigger than others, especially the room of the toe box.
    At any rate, I'm exchanging them for a 10.5 and hopefully, that will make big difference. My two cents if anyone was wondering about the Vomero sizing.

    Funny you actually mention the Peg 35 turbo. I have US 9 for all brands with two exceptions: the Nike Pegasus & New Balance. Pegasus: all versions (27-35) except v34 I had to go 9.5.
    For European people I can only say: European sizes are not a good reference. Even though I'm European, for running shoes I never use them. A US9 can be EUR42, EUR 42.5 or EUR42.66. A US9.5 can be EUR42.5, EUR42.66 or EUR43. If I order a 42,5 and the tag mentions EUR42,5/US9.5, it's too big...

      neutral refers to whether the shoe has stability elements in it. most people are neutral runners. but for some people, the way that the foot strikes the ground, it can put extra pressure on the ankles. the current consensus is that having shoes with control elements or having certain parts with stiffer cushioning in them will alleviate these problems.
