- Nomad Sculpting App - the Nomad character sculpt part 2. So this is video two of the Nomad character sculpt. This week we focus on the actual sculpting part of the process and get busy with the clay, smooth, crease, move brushes. It’s a great opportunity to follow along and learn the process with me as I make ‘The Nomad’ into a fully fledged character that you can use in other projects.
In the video I ask you to have a think about three things that you might want us to focus on in the future. Is there something in the creative world that you always wanted to learn and perhaps we can help with? Drop your ideas in the comments and let's see where we go with this.
Don't forget we have a Facebook group and you can show your work, get advice and meet with like-minded people in the iPad sculpting community

Being able to sculpt characters in this way is a really useful skill and can be used in so many ways after you leave the iPad. For example we can use it in ZBrush and UV and texture it. We can use it in Adobe Aero and have an augmented reality model. You can rig it, animate it and even paint over it.
Check out our iPad sculpting course, watch out for more courses in the future.

Digital sculpting is well established these days with programs like ZBrush, 3DCoat, Blender and more recently in VR with apps like Adobe Medium. There are now some amazing solutions that allow you to sculpt on an Ipad Pro with an Apple Pencil.

• Nomad Sculpting App - ...
Finishing off sculpting our new friend 'The Nomad'. Let us know what you think.😀
Nomad Sculpt brought me to this channel. I'd like to see more of that, and other iPad tools.
For us who have gotten all in on iPad, and don’t even own a “computer” anymore... we would love some kind of “rendering” or “paint over” 3D works for iPad only. I love your videos. Thank you! Keep it going.
Would love to see how you now bring Nomad into ZBrush (or Blender?) and move towards handling topology for animation - thank you for helping us through all of this!
A really great introduction into this app, thank you!! :)
It will be fantastic if You produce some training aimed to take a beginner level artist to intermediate to advance level. What I really find invaluable is the understanding of the thinking, preparation and mental set before and during the development of a project. I saw beautiful sculpting both digital and with clay, done with standard tools, where the success of the sculpture was the result of a right approach, correct techniques, background preparation and a tons of practice......not a tons of tools or very expensive software. There are some fondamentale knowledge, mindsets and skills that an “artist” needs to acquire if he/she want to develop and reach a high standard of work. Information and guides on all those subjects will be wonderful ( online on TH-cam, DVD etc ). Fantastic tutorials as always ! Thanks !
Great job!
Thank you! Cheers!
This is brilliantly helpful. I really appreciate your guidance and it truly makes a difference to beginners. I’ve worked as a sculptor in a special effects shop (creatures and puppets) so I’m very excited to transfer those skills into a digital world. I think IPad sculpting with Nomad is awesome so please keep them coming!
I'd like to see more Nomad tutorials like this one :D thanks for the great tutorials
More to come soon.

Great tutorial as always. The 3 things I'd love to see is #1 Definitely zbrush courses, as I'm really trying to learn. #2 The pipeline in getting the models ready for 3d printing. #3 And 3d printing itself. Im really interested in making statues (Collectibles) in zbrush. If I could learn that from you, that would be amazing. Thank you.
Looked forward to this one all week. BTW Glen, Here are my three:
1.) Separating and Keying a sculpt for 3D Printing. I've mentioned this before in another upload.
2.) Posing sculptures for realism. Also, posing for greatest impact. So...just posing tips and tricks.
3.) Geometric efficiency (where to save on geometry so as not to bog down the system as you sculpt without sacrificing the overall effect).
Posing soon
I’m with you on number 3 🤓
Really enjoy your video. I’d love to see more on workflow for sculpting collectibles and hard surface sculpting on the iPad. Thanks for posting
I'll build up to collectibles Bill. Working through more basic stuff first. I have a course out in a few weeks.
@@SouthernGFX Great to hear. Really enjoying your content.
Definitely more Nomad sculpt and then some Zbrush as well and maybe some blender. Specifically importing characters from nomad to other PC apps and setting them up for animation/3d Printing. Also a great one would be importing from nomad to zbrush and reposing with zspheres if its possible. Or if its possible to repose in blender since its a free app and more accessible to people. Thanks again your videos are great!
I would say sculpting on the iPad, specifically some hard surface sculpting would be amazing. More on Zbrush would be great and possibly a workflow from ipad to pc using Nomad -> Zbrush -> substance painter or blender.
Always looking forward to your next video :) My choices (in no particular order) Nomad, Medium, Gravity Sketch... Definitely not opposed to some ZBrush thrown in there as well. There just aren't many resources for the other stuff.
Great video thanks! 😊 I would really love to see an in depth Nomad vs Forger video, I’m on the fence about which one to choose, and that would really be helpful for me, please? 🙂
Good video! Will you be showing how to make this character move like in the beginning of the previous video?
岡村麻紀 I will. There are two more videos at least and possibly more featuring this character
Hi, would it be possible for you to make more videos for making an animation/game-ready mesh from this high res mesh. Thank you for everything :)
If you paint the model like that will it export into maya as well? I tried with another model but the colors didn’t export with it.
Thankyou so much, I was wondering if you might be able to show how to export and rig it in cinema 4d in another tutorial.
This is great, some mobile equivalent for desktop apps are coming, can you make separate video about only texturing in Nomad??
I wanna know that is possible to project textures/images on mesh, like in Mari..
Hand painting is great start, but I wanna more..
Hi What is the soft at 0.56 - with spaceshift - please ?
Thanks for your great vids 👍🏻
3 things I would love to see on channel:
1 - How to prepare a project (scratches, tool choose, etc)
2 - How to learn to sculpt (Books to read, examples to play with, etc)
3 - Ideally (not easy), youtube direct, where to sculpt something, and be changing sculpt and answering question on demand
4 - Painting, I tried to paint some basic sculpt, far from your results :)
Greetings from South Africa. 1. How do you prepare for texturing in substance painter?( I presume you can’t do it in nomad). With that please explain why we vertex paint?
2. How do you get the topology right for animation?
3. Can you explain the Matcap material?
I would love to see some tutorials on project primitive workflow in zbrush. Preferably in zbrush core to see whether it is viable or whether you have to shell out for zbrush proper. I can't tell from videos whether it has been what I have been looking for all my life, or just another cool idea from pixologic marred by streamlined counterintuitivity. (dunno if that is a word or not)
By the way, what was the "little green line" used for?
Thx a lot for all your videos, they are really amazingly useful for newcomers like me
Hi, Great work!! I have a question about painting thin surfaces like an ear for instance. When I apply paint to a thin surface like an animal ear the paint bleeds through to the other side if the modeled surface. Is the a way in Nomad to control this type of paint bleed? Thanks in advance :)
Thanks Christopher. Just go to the brush settings (top right) then scroll down and tick 'front facing vertex only' here's an image to show you.

@@SouthernGFX You’re welcome!! I have another question which I’m sure a lot of people also are wondering about now, So which is best for sculpting Forger or Nomad? I know they both have a few different options and approaches and some folks think its best to use both. I see you also use both. Ok, but why? Thanks again!!!! You’ve. Been very helpful, much appreciated.
More iPad content!
Your wish is my command..
Hi, do you work in blender I’d like to see Blender sculpting and 3D. Plus anything VR and iPad. Thanks
I'd love to see more Nomad tutorials but as it applies to 3D printing. I've been using Fusion 360 for years but when it comes to organic shape modeling fusion is not that great.
Your wish is granted... th-cam.com/video/7wi-igoD0Wo/w-d-xo.html
Make sure you get on the mailing list for the first Nomad Course.

Hi, fantastic tutorial (as ever).. I’d really appreciate some ‘basics’ vids, no longer than 10 minute’s perhaps, maybe a snake, a key or a wizard’s hat(!?) for example; this way you’d introduce key principles (excuse the pun) and modelling techniques which can then be brought into your excellent series. These could then be brought thru the pipeline to printing. Ok, they’re not a DaVinci but hey, it’s a start, which is my aim.
Also not everyone has an m1/2020 iPad and this would help significantly with ram issues, and it’d include them (perhaps people undecided about spending a lot of money at this moment in time maybe more energised and likely to take the plunge and update their tablet?) anyway, all best! Thanks again.
To be honest, the work you're doing is great... on a hit list I'd like to see hard surface modelling on an ipad and blender... It's just want interests me as its such a diffeent, and seeminly far harder technique than organics. Maybe not from a design side, but deffinitely from a technical application of software side.
As a general over view for the channel. I would like to see videos that center around the cheap to free tools... Not everyone can afford zbrish, or VR and given that youtube is a free platform for learning, I am not sure why more people do not tailor their content to the audience. If I could afford more expensive software and tools, I'd go pay for courses that have been constructed from the ground up and run like a curriculum for some focused learning in the given discipline.
But I can't... hence why I use youtube, and am trying to learn sulpting via blender and anything I can get on the ipad pro (which as a tool goes I have for my actual job, concepot design and drawing comics)
I would also like to see direct comparisons between scultping in diffeent programs, blender and nomad, as in tool for tool. Heres how we made nomad in nomad.... heres the exact same process using blender. Because its not always easy to see where the same tool is in different software. And while nomad is great, I also have a far larger cintiq and so sculpting in blender is also what I am looking at.
As I say, to be honest, I love the channel, so this isn't a complaint... but as you asked... ;)
Personally, and if it’s even possible, I’d like to see crossover applications for animation purposes in iOS as I am limited to that. i.e. what are my limitations with say Nomad/Forger and Procreate and or Callipeg, or LumaFusion even, plus other apps I’ve not even aware of. If there are no crossover points, I’ll just go back to drawing each frame with onion skins, using apps like Nomad for fleshing out characters rather than actually importing them anywhere, and then export the converted MP4 animation files to LumaFusion for editing. I suppose I’m searching for the most creatively inspiring and appropriate workflow and the best apps for that. Thanks in advance.
Sorry one question where are you school?
I live in California
My nomad sculpt menu looks different.
I’m an automotive clay modeller, but also an illustrator and artist, for med I’m really interested in getting into film concept design.
Moving from physical sculpting to virtual is really interesting to me, the scope for using a 3D model to render over for illustration work is something I’m really interested in.
I can’t afford a ZBrush license so for me its all about Nomad or Forger to use as a route into that world.
Hey man it's an exciting time to be diving into this stuff. If you want to mix some VR with illustration try this....

And not in any way to get a sale but I'm about to launch a Nomad Trex sculpting course which you might find useful if you already know the Nomad basics?
