    Great vid dude. Mike Dirnt was one of the bassists that inspired me to pick up a bass.

    H*ck yeah!! I bought my Limited Edition Standard Telecaster Precision Bass because of Mike Dirnt. It's basically a cheaper version of his signature bass. You nailed his tone!

    The secret to Mike's tone is a boost at 2K, and a Yahama G100 guitar head. He used that on everything up to the trilogy

    IMO Mikes tone is hiding exactly in boosting quite a lot in 2k. If you have opportunity to boost these frequencies specifically, go for it!

    As you can see him, headed down the rabbit hole of your videos. Funny thing that you mentioned about not being able to afford his things often. When I was a kid, I remember, dropping my strings in a pot of water with Dash of dish soap and letting them boil for just a few minutes and I would throw them back on my bass Lol

  • @etyramone2000
    @etyramone2000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    How comes I didn't find this video of yours sooner ?! Love it !
    Just a few random thoughts after the video :
    first, a really great demonstration of how to replicate the "modern" Mike Dirnt tone, congrats and thank you for that !
    Second, Mike Dirnt actually already had the G3 bass on Kerplunk but you probably try not to lose your viewers with
    details.
    Finally, I wanted to ask you how it was to have the Fender Rumble 500 in a flat. When you record it through the XLR out, is the speaker muted or do you use headphones ? I find it really hard to find the perfect compromise between a home-friendly and a gigable amp... Any idea ? Also, I do have a cheap squier P-bass but an affinity one, above my ATK300 one and don't know if I should upgrade it or get a Squier classic vibes or vintage...
    I am quite talkative about this video since American Idiot has also been a life-changing album for the 11 yeared old me ! Cheers !

    • @ampthebassplayer
      @ampthebassplayer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much! I love getting comments like this!
      For recording the XLR, I put a headphone adapter in the headphone jack to mute the speaker. Otherwise, the amp will still make sound when recording. When I practice at home, I find that I can get away with low volumes the 500 and it still sounds pretty good, but I do roll the bass way off on the eq because those are the frequencies that tend to penetrate walls.
      I used to have an ATK300 and I really miss it! Never get rid of it! As far as upgrading, I really like the Classic Vibes, but if you can stretch for a Player series bass or a used Mexican Fender, then that will be the last bass you’ll ever need.
      Thanks again for your kind words!

      @@ampthebassplayer Thank you for your answer; I really love this channel and still don't know why I don't get all the notifications !
      These are really interesting tricks ! Thank you. It is really facing a dilemma because I want to learn guitar and bass and can't choose between something for both like a THR10 or something bigger which wouldn't be gigable in the long run. But I don't want to race through steps and have to play better before that !
      I really love the ATK300 and you've got to know that your review and Paramore bass cover (the bassist was also a Green Day fan and interestingly has a G3 !!) comforted me to buy it : since either a G3 or a fat-sounding stingray was pretty pricey. You should find another one (I have an indonesian one but japanese are known to be better), since they are criminally underrated ! As is your channel !
      Cheers and I hope you never stop doing videos !

    • @ampthebassplayer
      @ampthebassplayer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean, the results speak for themselves. If you want, you can actually take the isolated bass track and do an eq spectrum analysis in your daw and that will show you what frequencies are more present than others. I bet you’ll find plenty of low mids!

    • @RankielGuitar
      @RankielGuitar 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ampthebassplayer that's where I got fucked because indeed it sounds like Mike's tone! thing is I heard him say in a recent interview that he describes his frequency spectrum in a shape of M, meaning a big cut in the mids, getting the bass and as Entwistle turning the treble up!
