To me, another interpretation of Tai Lung exclaiming "It's nothing!" when seeing into the dragon scroll and showing his reflection, it's like the movie was suggesting that due to Tai Lung's past and upbringing, he had his whole sense of identity wrapped around being the Dragon Warrior, so much so that he thought if he couldn't be the Dragon Warrior, then he was nobody, a "nothing."
I think its more that he destroyed and ruined his own life in pursuit of the scroll. Hurting untold amounts of people, destroying all his personal relationships all for the power of the scroll. When he finally gets the scroll? He’s told the secret is you, he looks at his reflection and simply cannot face the reality of who he has become and what hes done for nothing. So he just has to keep going.

Tai lung had no life. He was raised by a Kung Fu master and never had any other friends or family. Becoming the dragon warrior and getting the scroll was his only possible goal in life, and he quite literally was nothing without that.

I dunno. That would seem to imply that he felt some level of remorse or regret or that deep down, he knew and recognized what he did was wrong. But I don't think any of those things happened. I think Tai Lung was fully justified in his own mind, and he would have continued to stop at nothing to get the scroll. When he sees that it has "nothing" on it, he is only baffled and disappointed that it was not anything like what he expected.

Marvel isn't true to Norse mythology. Loki is supposed to be a trickster, not a villain. He's also a shapeshifter, so he can literally be any gender he wants; he's conceived and birthed many children, including the Fenris wolf. I'd recommend reading actual Norse mythologi to be accurate rather than base it off the movies.

The entire shifu vs po for the dumpling and him saying "I'm not hungry" thing isn't just about being upset. Shifu had said "when you have been trained, you may eat" and by saying "You are free to eat" he said "You have been trained", following that with their standoff. "Have I been trained?" "HAVE YOU?!" and with "I'm not hungry" po also acknowledges that he's not at the end of the road yet. He's not done training.

Oh, I see. It's like food was Po's training wheels for Kung Fu, and by declining the dumpling and saying "I'm not hungry," Po was telling Shifu that he didn't need the training wheels anymore.

It actually explains in the kung Fu panda: legend of awesomeness that Po is really good at copying any techniques by just seeing it for the first time time
Not to mention that he spent hours of his youth researching everything there was to know about Kung Fu but had just never put it into practice.
I first saw this in theaters when I was 13. I remember crying a bit when Master Oogway passed. The music and his acceptance of death really hit me at the time. He's a great mentor with a lot of wisdom that we can apply in our everyday life.

I watched this masterpiece back when DVD players were a thing 😤 still my favorite movie, I put it up with the Lion King
kung fu panda was like one of the best animations during the 2000's and hell im so glad i was able to watch it. The second movie has to be the best for me, with Shen's iconic lines and voice. I remember being so obsessed with kfp as a kid that i binged watch legend of awesomeness every night as a kid XD.

Edit: there's also a really interesting parallel between Tai Lung and Po, they were both adopted and raised solely for one thing which are kind of opposites in a way but both dreamed of the same end goal except Tai Lung kinda had that dream forced onto him and Po was really passionate about it and it just makes Tai Lung's whole story so much more sad
Hans Zimmer did a great job on the score! (and yes, that's "The Lion King" composer Hans Zimmer I'm talking about. He did the score for Kung Fu Panda) and I don't know if you know this but Jackie Chann is Monkey, Seth Rogen is Mantis, Angelina Jolie is Tigress, and Dustin Hoffman is Shifu! They really went all out with the voice cast!

Hey, Angie! I love this movie too! Fun fact: at my school, we had cupcakes with frosting on them looking like Chinese noodles.
Another thing: Tai Lung made his escape seem effortless because he's a snow leopard. Snow leopards are quite agile and can navigate sheer cliffs with relative ease in their mountainous homes (The guards didn't really think this one through lol). Sadly, they're endangered due to climate change. In fact, I think most of the Furious Five are based on endangered species!
Monkey- Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey (native to the temperate forests of China; threatened by habitat loss)
Crane- Red Crowned Crane (native to Siberia, NE China, and NE Mongolia; threatened by water pollution and little nesting material)
Tigress- South China Tiger (declared extinct in the wild due to human pressures)
Viper- Green Tree Viper (restricted to Southern India, but it is listed as Least Concern)
Mantis- Chinese Mantis (Native to China, Japan, Korea, Micronesia and Thailand; introduced accidentally in the US)

Something I noticed as I got older with Kung fu panda is that it kind of parodies old karate movies, while not as much as shrek does, it is part of the humor and the best part is that it isn’t forced or unnecessary, like in most old Karate movies, the old master will die after fighting his former student. It’s almost like po has seen these movie and things shifu is dying but he’s just taking a nap. Also I find it hilarious how his name is master shifu, which literally means master master, or ot could also mean master father
As for Master “Master” blowing out the candles with a twin-palm strike it’s the same reason for why Mulan could be superhuman, the cool and fantastic things in Chinese cinema, the fantastic and alluring folklore and mythology of East-Asia (and for some reason Westerners can’t understand), it is Chi

It works in Kung Fu Panda, but it’s garbage for Mulan.
The idea of the Mulan movie was that this normal girl defied everything to save her father from dying in war. No powers, no special circumstances to her birth.
But the new one says, “Hey girls! Remember: You can do anything guys can... as long as you’re born with special magic Jedi powers.”
I agree, the thing about chi in China is that everyone is born with it you’re not blessed if you get it since you already have it. They treated her like she was a Skywalker, it made no sense.
A way they could have handled it better (but they didn’t need it in the story) is to have her learn to *Harness* her chi mid-way through the movie due to her dedication to save her family & friends

As far as I know, chi in traditional Chinese culture is kinda like blood, except it's some kind of energy flowing through you and with acupuncture for example, you can manipulate the flow of chi. So, with that in mind, some of the lines from the live-action Mulan remake sound very stupid: "cHi Is FoR wArRiOrS, nOt DaUgHtErS." Also, fun fact: In Japanese (which uses Chinese Characters), the character meaning blood is literally pronounced 'chi' (it looks like this: 血)

P.S. In Chinese, chi is referred to as “Breath”. Which is why breathing techniques are so important, look at weightlifters and competitive fighters, they all breathe to properly preform their specific task, action, etc. A lot of myths make sense when you also have this in mind.

Also, if I said something wrong, I'm sorry. I'm still learning Japanese, so I might have to learn to hold back on unintentionally spreading misinformation. I looked it up and apparently, the one character was only half of the word, and the full word looks like this:血液 and is pronounced 'ketsueki'. Which makes way more sense, cuz' why wouldn't the word 'blood' have the water radical in it, but now it does.

A few cool things I wanna point out:
The point of the dragon scroll is to show that the dragon warrior isn’t about any powers, it’s just about who you are as a person. Po handles this revelation well, saying ‘it’s blank!’ when he sees himself, but Tai Lung says ‘it’s nothing!’ when he sees himself because he believes that without the power of the dragon warrior, he is nothing.
‘You are free to eat’ is a callback to Shifu saying ‘when you are trained, you may eat’. In the fight, Shifu is testing whether Po has been trained, and thus whether he can eat the dumpling. Po’s ‘I’m not hungry’ line isn’t just because he’s not upset, it’s also because Po has decided that he wants to do more training.
Po really did figure out the Wuxi Finger Hold… as in, he invented it. At first it was just a fear tool used by masters to keep their students in line, but Po didn’t know that, so he accidentally invented the technique because he thought it must be possible ‘because it’s already been done’.
Some of the things the Po vs Tai Lung fight calls back to:
Stairs (Po’s entrance)
‘What’re you gonna do, big guy? Sit on me?’ (Po sits on him)
Po getting kicked down the Jade Palace stairs when he refuses to quit (bouncing down the stairs, Po is unharmed)
Po trying to see the dragon warrior (the tree flick and the fireworks cart)
Chopsticks (bamboo poles - Tai Lung brute forces it and gets punished, while Po followed the lesson and learned from it)
Po’s food-based acrobats (cookie vision)
‘It’s blank!’ (‘It’s nothing!’)
‘There is no secret ingredient’
Oogway’s nerve technique (Tai Lung copied his move)
Acupuncture (Po’s nerves are hard to hit)
The level zero training dummy (Po bounces back to counterattack in the same way)
Big fat panda (from throughout the movie)
Wuxi Finger Hold

It's been noted that Oogway brought Shifu into the candle hall as a test, that if he could be patient then he would avoid tragedy.
He waited until Shifu showed that he was too impatient to wait, then delivered the bad news he foresaw as a result

How I interpreted how Shifu taught Tai Lung in comparison to how he taught Po is mainly the difference in putting your expectations on someone versus believing in someone.
Tai Lung did everything that Shifu taught him and exceeded those expectations. And Tai Lung expected to be rewarded with the Dragon Scroll and Shifu's pride by doing so. And when Tai Lung didn't get what he wanted, he snapped.
Wheras with Po. Po already didn't like himself, and when Shifu tried putting his expectations on Po, it didn't work. But when Shifu believed in Po, Po exceeded his own expectations and believed in himself. Making him far better than he can ever imagine.

On the one hand, I'm pretty sure that "Funyuns" don't have any naturally occurring ingredients in them. I'm pretty sure that you'll get better nutrition if you just eat the foil bag... But then again, I REALLY LOVE Funyuns!

My favorite part of Kung Fu Panda, Shifu is actually a panda as well. Also, Po and Tai Lung are so close all the way through, from loving Legendary Battles to striving for the title of Dragon Warrior.

I watched this movie with commentary and all the behind the scenes so many times, because as much as I love the movie itself, when I find a movie I love too much I end up loving the Behind the Scenes more!
