This first one is my favorite, but the entire trilogy is a masterpiece. There's also some short films you should watch.
Here's two I recommend. They both take place after the first movie. First, Secrets of the Furious Five. Po tells a group of young students the backstories of the Furious Five before they were brought together.
This one you should save for the year-end holiday season: Kung Fu Panda holiday.

I really loved when Po said "I'm not a big fat panda, I'm THE big fat panda".
He been called as a big fat panda all movie long. People think of him as a joke. Even he also admit that he think tortured up there is better than living as himself. But, then the secret recipe is just to believe in yourself. And when he said this, it's like him owning everything he was insecure about.

When Oogway says “one often meets his fate on the road he takes to avoid it”, it sets up a theme for the rest of this movie as well as the other two. A prime example being Tai Lung’s escape. If Shifu hadn’t sent the messenger, Tai Lung would never have gotten the feather that he unlocked himself with. You might have also noticed that everything the guards did to slow him down only helped him escape, like shooting crossbows that ended up breaking his cuffs. It’s subtle, but the theme is very prominent in all of the movies

When it comes to the furious five bullying Po, the way I see it was the fact that these warriors trained their entire lives, shedding blood, sweat, and tears to be where they are, only to have some random, over weight fan boy take their place. I love Po and it sucks to watch everyone talk about him so badly, but at the same time there are valid reasons for the masters to hate him.

Tai Lung is a great character, he gave me a lot of sadness in his story, since he was a child he was always raised with the aim of being the dragon warrior, that is, when they denied him that title, what did the effort since his only goal was denied, at that time he felt that his life had no meaning

    • @Orendiz
      @Orendiz ปีที่แล้ว +1

Tai lung was raised with the promiss of greatness, not the dragon scroll. But for Tai Lung the dragonscroll was the ultimate sign and title of greatness. Shifu never tried to teach him that the scroll is not the only way to be great, nor should it be the reason for becoming or even being great. And that was the ultimate fualt of Shifu that he himself never really learned from or recovered from untill he trained po.

Po is arguably the greatest Kung Fu Warrior in the movie, after his training montage, and then reads the Scroll expecting it to make him *better* when the qualification required to read the scroll is to *be the best* at Kung Fu.

Fun fact: Red Pandas (Master Shifu) are the only real living pandas, being the first described pandas to exist and also the only species left due to others becoming extinct. Giant Pandas/Panda Bears (Like Po) are actually bears that developed wrists like Red Pandas and only became more popular because they are fat, lazy, clumsy, fluffy, and cute. However, Giant Pandas are terrible at being bears, because they still have carnivore digestive systems, and actively nerf themselves by eating bamboo. Po actually eats bean buns and stuff which actually gives him more protein that he would need logically to be stronger than other pandas... At least scientifically. Movie wise it is just plot and training.

Never seen video about it in english, but in russian we have a few ones about Tai-Lung's tragedy:
He was trained his whole life in some kind of martial arts cult (think of it: kung-fu masters are demigods here and unbreakable authorities, especially Ugwei who is someone like a prophet), Shi-Fu gave him nothing except his fighting skills and determination to be a best for his father (for ego as well, but mostly for Shi-Fu). And what happened after tens of years of bloody trainings with no excuses? Crazy old turtle saw something bad in his heart (actually, what? Rage? Aggression? Pride? Ambition? Never told about it. And I don't believe that Tai-Lung wouldn't try to achieve some sort of inner piece if he was told to reach that goal to eradicate that darkness from his heart and become a true Dragon Warrior) and destroy his whole life like nothing.
I believe that Tai-Lung could handle it, but only with support from his father - the only one and the most important person in his whole life. But Shi-Fu betray him as well and the whole world around Tai-Lung was okay with that shit.
P.S. The whole fight beetwen Tai-Lung and Po was complietly screwed up. As we see in this movie and in the sequel as well, Po didn't reach his limits and in some cases was weaker then Tigress or Shi-Fu. At the same time, Tai-Lung is an ultimate war-machine, who can be stopped only by Ugwei.

I actually really, really like Kungfu panda and I think Tai Lung is the best villain in the trilogy.
Think about this: Think about if you were raised your entire life with ONE goal, one purpose and your caregiver/parent hammered into your head *constantly* that all that training and pain was what you NEEDED to do to achieve said goal and at the end of the day when it finally comes time to achieve that goal, someone else pops up and says "no, you're not worthy" and your caregiver/parent just agrees with them and doesn't even TRY to argue on your behalf.
I have no doubt that Shifu told Tai Lung repeatedly that he WOULD be the Dragon warrior. Would he have used that power as Dragon warrior to do bad things? Maybe, but he's not really a villain in my eyes. He's someone who was taught his whole life that his only purpose was to be the Dragon warrior and that was stripped from him, and he was imprisoned. OF COURSE he's an angry kitty lol.

Got exited while writing, sorry for the long comment :)
I really love this movie. The message, the animation, the characters.
To me the message is a message not of believing in yourself, but of acceptance.
From the start the 5 didn't accept Po for who he was, to them it wasn't enough.
Shifu when first trying to train him didn't account for who he was, he just utilized the ways of teaching the others and applied to him, and got frustrated when it didn't work.
We discover later on that Po even didn't accept himself, he wanted to change, and believed Shifu could change him.
Oogway was so wise because of that knowledge, he only saw Po for who he was, never for who he should or could become.
The same way, Shifu was only able to teach Po when he understood him and used how he really was to teach him.
And that culminates in the final message I believe, that is no secret. You don't need to do anything, or become something else. Only being you is enough.
That's my interpretation, what you called an accident in the end to me was just part of his intrinsic value showing in a more material way.
Another small thing, what you called magic I think is intended to be Chi manipulation, but don't quote me on that, not 100% sure.

One of the best part about Po is, he is the total fanboy, and no matter how much he struggles, or no matter how good and powerful he gets, he always remains a fanboy. For Shifu and the Furious Five, Kung Fu is a sacred duty, for Po it is and remains a passion.

I dont know if you commented this on the video or if someone already commented this but I really like how Oogway told Shifu that sometimes you bring the future closer when you are trying to stop it, and then right after Tai Lung escapes because Shifu sent in a messenger to double the prison guard

Crane tried to be nice, viper apologized for beating him so bad and nonverbally scolded mantis for the bouncing comment, and monkey...monkey and po we're fighting with staffs, and monkey hit his staff a couple times to help him feel like he blocked a couple.

To be fair, people need to really put into perspective that these literal masters trained vigorously for over 20+ years of your fricken LIFE, and the one who got picked to be the ultimate dragon warrior kung fu master...was fat guy fanboy with probably cheeto dust and action figures and doesn't even know how to do kung fu AT ALL who randomly fell from the sky cause he strapped fireworks to a dang chair!! (And it's implied people have trained YEARS to be dragon warrior, and someone who didn't know kung fu got the role you are supposed to train for, anyone would be mad) If you really look at it, you'd be pissed to if you trained for 20 years and some amateur newbie got a GIANT promotion you could only dream of for no reason other then "destiny", you'd be pissed! I know he's our protagonist, but y'all can't just act like you totally wouldn't act like the furious five towards someone you saw as a neck beard fanboy who got lucky because of his stupidity, i.e strapping himself to a firework chair...

The whole... message of self-actualization in this movie is what makes the entire series so powerful for me. Don't get me wrong, How to Train Your Dragon is a much more epic series, but this is really one that resonates with me on a very personal level. Especially being someone who is on the bigger side, and... feeling generally disrespected and dismissed by a lot of people that I should have been able to trust to actually support me for who I am. Self-knowledge and self-respect are very powerful forces, and the more you can embrace them, the more powerful you really do become in life.

It's really sad that,if shifu had visited tai lung in prison, and maybe apologized, tai lung could've turned out better. You can see the emotions running through his face, that apology meant something to him, even if he denied it. But the problem is, tai lung spent 20 years,in solitary confinement, in a straightjacket SO restrictive ,he couldn't even take a full breath, that was shown in one of the stages of unlocking. He spent 20 years in his own head with nothing to do but stew in his hatred of those he felt responsible, sifu and oogway.
