one of the things I love about toothless is how he's not one of the most visually frightening dragons but the mystery and differences that separate him from the rest are what really made him terrifying

I've only recently started reading the books, although I've been a fan for a long time, and the attitude towards hiccup is shown quite well, especially in the first book. This is my favorite animated movie and my second favorite movie of all time. It's just so amazing and has such beautiful animation, beautiful writing, fantastic sound design, a phenomenal soundtrack, great characters and arcs, incredible world building, just so many amazing and dare I say realistic mannerisms and movements put into the dragons. I love how cat-like some of the dragons are. The sound design is what really just sends me over the moon. I absolutely love the various vocalizations of the creatures, particularly those awesome night fury roars (and the skrill from the series, which is one of my favorite dragons), snarls, little guttural purr-like noises, the lightning/fire blasts, smoke, wing-beats, breathing, the sound of feet or claws or a tail dragging, and of course environmental sounds. Everything just sounds so natural and incredible and flows together perfectly with the animation and voice acting. I love how every dragon is unique, both is physical appearance, personality, and in the different sounds they make (varying from species to species), and being a descendant of vikings myself, the story and world building was just plain fun. I felt like I could be in a story like that, only I'm small and have floppy noodle arms, like Hiccup, so I'd have to figure out how to use things and the environment to my advantage.
Or did you mean favorite movie? My favorite of all time is Black Beauty (1994). Black Beauty, How to Train Your Dragon, The Aristocats, and Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro are my favorites of all time and forever will be. And on that note, my favorite show of all time is Lupin III. Batman is a close second though. I love The Animated Series and the 1966 series. And I'm trying to catch up on all the movies. I just recently saw the 1989 film with my dad and it was so fun! I absolutely loved it!
I love how nightfuries are dog and cat-like with a little horse and bat, how Stormfly is like of bird behaviour, the one Fishlegs have is like a bulldog…
I liked it, but it is definitely meant for a much younger audience compared to the movies so it may not be worth the time. Personally, I'd just suggest the snoggletog Christmas special. One thing I didnt like was how useless/inept Gobber seemed in the show, but in the movies, he is the one to give good advice as a right hand man
It took until this reaction to realize that when Gobber was talking about trolls stealing all the left socks, it was foreshadowing that Hiccup’s left foot will be gone. Goddamn this is a smart script. Lol And wonderful reaction! ❤️
11:55 in an intervie the director confess that toothless hesitation was actual an animation error, but they liked so much how it look that they kept it
Quit spreading misinformation. In the director's commentary on the disc itself, the directors admit that the animator put that hesitation in because it felt natural to him.
I am so happy that you constantly praised John Powell’s score. In my opinion all three HTTYD movies have among the best movie soundtracks ever made, and it’s a shame that not at least one of them recieved an Oscar…
Theme for left side: it’s toothless’s LEFT fin that breaks. There’s references to the “left hand side” throughout the film. At the end of the movie, it’s Hiccups LEFT leg that he loses. I firmly believe that the “left side” references were foreshadowing to hiccup losing his left leg.
9:50 God, I just love the way they describe the Night Fury. Makes them sound so freaking menacing and dangerous (which Toothless is, but he's also the most adorable thing EVER, lol).
Hey I wanted to say that toothless was actually based on one of the creators cats😂 which I find incredible. These movies are so comforting to me. I also wanted to say that I found your channel a few days ago and I have just been watching all of them. I love your videos!!!
Hiccup with Toothless is like another story I know. "It's a pity Bilbo didn't kill him when he had the chance." "Pity? It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand."
"Toothless sounds are emphasized, and they are created by mixing Humans, Elephants, Horses, Tiger and Cats sound together." - Sound Designer, Randy Thom
Best *franchise* ever, in my opinion! I even have Eret, Son Of Eret (my favorite character from the franchise) as my phone's lock screen and wallpaper! :)
I didn't think I couldn't enjoy this movie anymore after watching it so many times but your personality and commentary made it possible again 🤘 only ange
You know, I never noticed the thing with the left until you mentioned it. Even their injuries are both on their lefts, his left leg, toothless' left tail thingy. Maybe it was foreshadowing?
Fun fact: dragons get really sick when they eat eels and it's very dangerous, that's why they're afraid of them, there's an episode in one of the shows where Toothless accidently eats one.
Dont know if anyone mentioned it yet, but the reason the teens/kids dont have the same accent as the adults is to show the difference the generation and how the new generation is creating change in their village! I think its a really neat detail :^)
12:20 Maybe the left side thing is a world-building tool... for instance, it's just their superstition. Like- the left side is unlucky. Which would make sense if Hiccup was left handed because they would just consider him unlucky and be even more adverse to and distant with him.
The HTTYD trilogy is honestly my favorite movie trilogies of all time. The story is so cohesive and good that I count the entire trilogy as a single movie. 11/10.
I just really love that Hiccup loses a limb. Think about how this is the first Disney hero with a prosthetic! How many kids without limbs looked up to this character?!
I wonder if she noticed how after Stoic said Hiccup isn't his son, when he left, you can see him reel back from what he said but it was too late to take it back, so he just continued on. It was subtle.
When Stoick asked the village to hunt for the dragon nest early in the movie, he said:" we are Vikings, it's our occupational hazard", and no one agreed with him. When he said Hiccup doesn't have to go to the final fight, Hiccup said the same line on his own. It really shows that despite the dramatic difference on the outside, Hiccup and Stoick are the same on the inside, which also explains why they don't listen to each other, they are too stubborn. It costs Stoick his son's leg to listen to Hiccup, and you all know what it costs Hiccup to listen to Stoick in the second movie.
23:26 yes, there are dragons that can't fly 25:55 I mostly took it as they are the same cause when Hiccup said to Astrid "I saw myself" line 26:19 Cause it wasn't winter yet lol Loved the commentary btw and should watch the other two movies they are amazing
I think the dragons are kind of a combination between dogs and cats ,you know? The fearlessness and loyalty of a dog ,and the curiosity and as mischievous as a cat?
Ah I love Toothless! I actually really enjoyed this series as well. But really Ange first the whole Dagobah thing and now the “right” thing……..keep them coming 🤣🤣
i watched that movie like 2 years ago and i didint remember ANYTHING of it not even how the main character looked like, the dragons name, nothing like-
if you didnt catch it, the scene in which hiccups father leaves that room after saying "you're not my son" you sort of see his face go pale, and he stops as if he wants to go back in, but feels more obligated to 'end this war and make our home safe' showing that he IS a good father but also one who is willing to put everything on the line to make his home safe
Left is everything in this film Left Socks Left Tail Fin Missing On Toothless Tuffnut Saying "You've Just Never Seen Me From The Left Side." Hiccup Losing His Left Leg
If anyone click off you Ange they need to be like Icarus and fly to close to the sun, you are a delight and a treasure to reaction watchers. Keep inspiring others with that glimmer of sunlight you give us with your videos!!!!
When Toothless hesitated it was actually due to a glitch with the model but the animators thought it made the scene more impactful so they kept it in. I absolutely love this franchise, it’s what sparked my interest in animation.
A detail I love that I think a lot of people missed: Just before Hiccup cuts Toothless loose in the woods, he says, "I did this". When Stoick finds Toothless after the final battle, and thinks Hiccup is dead, he says the exact same line. Also, when Toothless is on top of Stoick in the arena, the first person to wrestle Toothless is Spitelout, Stoick's younger brother.
I saw this in the theater when it was first released. That was right near the height of the modern 3D movie era, and this is the one non-gimmicky 3D movie I've seen that I think you are missing something if you don't see it in 3D. Mostly for the flying scenes, but also there's basically a cut scene with the Viking fleet crossing the ocean where I thought the 3D version provided a sense of scale that you can't get with 2D. It's still a visually powerful film in 2D, but the 3D was better.
Dude, literally same! The only reason why I watched it in the first place is because my grandma and cousins told me that it was 3D and I never experienced 3D before because it was new ,so I went with them. Little did I know my life was about to change thanks to this movie!
These reason they say the trolls only steal the left socks is because the director for this movie also directed Lilo and Stitch. In Lilo in Stitch, Jumba trained Stitch to steal everyone’s left shoe.
yah. story is sooooo well written. so many things so brilliantly set up and paid off. and the music is SHOCKINGLY good... this movie came out the same year as avatar so i saw both in the theater and both movies have a romance riding dragons scenes... this one blew avatar out of the fucking water... and the music played a huge part in that. but also the beauty of the shots in that sequence.... for me, this was like kungfu panda... i was just expecting meh another cartoon... and i was leveled by just how much care and attention they put into every little thing and how amazing the results were. total surprise.
"They steal your socks, only the left ones." This is some sneaky foreshadowing of the fact that Hiccup will lose his left foot at the end. Which by the way has some literary symmetry: Hiccup loses a part of his body just like Toothless did. And in some sense, it's meat to redeem Hicupp since he's the one who injured Toothless. Hiccup even joked about this in the second movie, "You couldn't save all of me, could you? You just had to make it even."
in one of their short story fro what i remember its Christmas and Hiccup gave him an Automatic tail as a gift, because the other dragons are migrating to mate but he cant go...
I listen to the soundtrack every day, it's absolutely amazing! I love what John Powell did with the motifs and themes for each character and then changing the quality to fit the mood. SO GOOD!! Amazing storytelling, music, animation, casting. *Chef kiss* beautiful!
Hiccup in serious kinda deep voice : Night fury the unholy offspring of lighting and death itself Angeli in surprise and interested voice : Unholy osspriuh aighjj dessz self !?!?!?! 🤣🤣🤣 I subscribed just for that and this is my frist time watching her channel
HOW HAVE YOU NEVER SEEN THIS TRILOGY OMFG :O Also the HTTYD franchise is one of the few coming of age films (or any films, really) to also naturally, respectfully, and organically include loss of limb and physical disability as part of not just one, but MULTIPLE characters' story arcs without making it an overly large part of the storyline. And yet it lends a really poetic nature to the film's parallelism. Not to give anything away, but in the second and third movies, it's not even a big deal - Hiccup has lost a leg, so he now lives with it. And there are both good days and bad days. It's not A Thing that's constantly rehashed - it simply becomes the new status quo, as is the case for anybody that has ever lost a limb in real life.
21:45 I would guess 200 times the length and 400 times the volume of a regular dragon. In the TV series they call these super large unique dragons Titanwings.
Toothless' roars/dive bomb noises come from big cats, elephant seals, horses, fighter planes and Randy Thom going into a room and screaming lmao The left side references are a reference to the directors' first film together, "Lilo and Stitch." Stitch was programmed to steal everyone's left shoe. They actually had to scale the Red Death to make her fit, same with the Zippleback. They used a old ass software to animate the film, called Emo. It crashed when more than one character on screen. This is the only series where every film was made using a new software at DreamWorks. They went from using only a few dragons at a time, to hundreds and thousands on screen in the third film. They even altered Toothless' model slightly since the model for the first film was a nightmare to work with. The changes are so subtle but just enough so they could work on him without going mad. Also, Stoick's bears so thicc they literally had a party when they finished animating him. Surprised you didn't mention the first flight!
I'm so excited for you to watch the rest bc these are some of my favorite animated movies of all time!! I grew up with this trilogy like I was about 10yo when I saw the first one and I was 19 when the last one came out, I went to see it in theaters and when I tell you I left that room bawling my eyes out lmaooo they're super sweet and fun and exciting and scary and painful and beautiful and yes yes yes the score is glorious!!! it's just so good. also as an animation fan, seeing the development in animation in these movies throughout the course of 10 years was just amazing. love every second of it. hope you enjoy it too!! 💖
In case it wasn't mentioned in another comment there are two shows! The first one is called Riders of Berk and it takes place right after the first movie. It has two seasons of 13 episodes and you get to see the kids learn and develop along with their dragons. The second show is called Race to the Edge (it's also on Netflix) and they are like 17 or so in it so we see them as riders who have really come into their own and its amazing. If you were to watch the shows you can watch them after the movies but I think the best way is to watch How to Train Your Dragon then Riders of Berk then Race to the Edge and then the second and third movies.
I've never sold the idea of watching this movie to anyone but if I did to myself before watching it: "Imagine the cutest cat. Then mix it with the bravest dog, then it becomes your friend AND you get to ride it being the only one able to do it but you have to use an apparatus that uses a lever sort of like changing gears on a motorcycle. Oh, by the way, that thing is a Night-fury dragon, just one that everyone fears... for no reason."

What’s your favorite?
@@gracebrown3074 What's my favorite what? Dragon? I can't really pick. I love the night fury, skrill, scauldron, and whispering death.
I suggest watching “Dragons: Race To The Edge” before watching the second movie, apparently it helps introduce some characters in the movie better
Also to see how much they have matured
I liked it, but it is definitely meant for a much younger audience compared to the movies so it may not be worth the time. Personally, I'd just suggest the snoggletog Christmas special.
One thing I didnt like was how useless/inept Gobber seemed in the show, but in the movies, he is the one to give good advice as a right hand man
As well as “Riders/Defenders of Berk” considering it introduced some characters that show up in RTTE
I loved the shows, but for a first time casual watcher, I don't think you need it
I 100% think this would be a great idea!
Dreamworks pitch meeting:
1: "Lets make a movie with dragons but make them as adorable as cats"
2: "WE'RE RICH!!!"
It took until this reaction to realize that when Gobber was talking about trolls stealing all the left socks, it was foreshadowing that Hiccup’s left foot will be gone. Goddamn this is a smart script. Lol And wonderful reaction! ❤️
Да, но шутка тут так же в том, что у Плеваки буквально осталась только одна нога, так что и носки у него пропадают только одни
No, IT was because Gönner didnt have a right foot
No it’s because he doesn’t have a right foot so the only sock they can steal is the left one 😂😂
"how to train your dragon" is 100% the first film i would show to my children if i have some
11:55 in an intervie the director confess that toothless hesitation was actual an animation error, but they liked so much how it look that they kept it
We can see in the 3d movie that when they animated the hesitation, it looked different
Quit spreading misinformation.
In the director's commentary on the disc itself, the directors admit that the animator put that hesitation in because it felt natural to him.
Only gets better with each movie!
Anyone with a cat would immediately love toothless 😂 they think themselves stealthy and menacing but they are just big dorks
@@ayaehab I completely agree -someone with a cat who loves toothless
With a little bit of stitch from Lilo and stitch thrown in
@@Delsin4077 I can see that!
They also put in a few mannerisms that dog owners could recognize as well.
Hiccup with Toothless is like another story I know.
"It's a pity Bilbo didn't kill him when he had the chance."
"Pity? It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand."
This film has amazing music, animation, writing basically everything.🐉loved how you wore the hiccup vest nice touch😁👍.
Yesss plus the lore they created for this franchise is just incredible🥰
entirely coincidental HAHA
"Toothless sounds are emphasized, and they are created by mixing Humans, Elephants, Horses, Tiger and Cats sound together." - Sound Designer, Randy Thom
OMG IM EXCITED WHEN YOURE GOING TO WATCH THE OTHER TWO MOVIES TOO
This movie is ofc peak dreamworks
Best animated film ever, Better than kung fu panda just saying
You are f right
Best *franchise* ever, in my opinion! I even have Eret, Son Of Eret (my favorite character from the franchise) as my phone's lock screen and wallpaper! :)
I agree
Alfred Molina plays a major villain in the Netflix series and you know how good of a foil is to Jay Baruchel
oh im so ready for this reaction 🥺❤️
I didn't think I couldn't enjoy this movie anymore after watching it so many times but your personality and commentary made it possible again 🤘 only ange
That’s crazy
John Powell’s first Oscar nomination was for this movie, and dammit it’s truly incredible music. ❤️❤️❤️
You know, I never noticed the thing with the left until you mentioned it. Even their injuries are both on their lefts, his left leg, toothless' left tail thingy. Maybe it was foreshadowing?
Angelina you need to do the whole series it is low key soo good
Fun fact: dragons get really sick when they eat eels and it's very dangerous, that's why they're afraid of them, there's an episode in one of the shows where Toothless accidently eats one.
Dont know if anyone mentioned it yet, but the reason the teens/kids dont have the same accent as the adults is to show the difference the generation and how the new generation is creating change in their village! I think its a really neat detail :^)
12:20
Maybe the left side thing is a world-building tool... for instance, it's just their superstition.
This isn't a Disney film though, it's Dreamworks.
@@VegetaLF7 Oh, for some reason I thought Disney owned DreamWorks. Either way, it's still a great character for kids with lost limbs to look up to.
7:20 There is no electric guitar. It’s the scottish back pipes that are playing in the background
Your makeup and outfit is KILLING IT today Angelina! I can't wait to watch this after work
Thank youuu!~
I wonder if she noticed how after Stoic said Hiccup isn't his son, when he left, you can see him reel back from what he said but it was too late to take it back, so he just continued on. It was subtle.
So glad to see you’re reacting to this movie you are becoming one of my favorite reactors I hope you continue to succeed with your content
the entire series of HTTYD is AMAZING
I was literally watching this film today and watching people react to it and never realised your reaction was the one I needed:)
It costs Stoick his son's leg to listen to Hiccup, and you all know what it costs Hiccup to listen to Stoick in the second movie.
there is a Fun fact that Toothless did not now that hiccup was responsable for his injury
Love this movie, I wouldn't have watched it if people didnt tell me i sounded like Hiccup 😂
Love that! I’ve always loved Hiccup’s voice😂
23:26 yes, there are dragons that can't fly
25:55 I mostly took it as they are the same cause when Hiccup said to Astrid "I saw myself" line
26:19 Cause it wasn't winter yet lol
Loved the commentary btw and should watch the other two movies they are amazing
I think the dragons are kind of a combination between dogs and cats ,you know? The fearlessness and loyalty of a dog ,and the curiosity and as mischievous as a cat?
I usually hate montages in movies. especially ones from the same movie but this storytelling is so beautiful. it's amazing.
youre rlly funny lmao genuinely good commentary/reaction xDD
Ah I love Toothless! I actually really enjoyed this series as well. But really Ange first the whole Dagobah thing and now the “right” thing……..keep them coming 🤣🤣
Ange cracking the "right" jokes is everything 😆
Fun fact: you can see toothless flying across the stars during the Dreamworks logo
6:06 drum drum cymbal moment here
loved this reaction!! you have great commentary and reactions! great editing too :D subbed immediately
Thx for liking my comment guys
i watched that movie like 2 years ago and i didint remember ANYTHING of it not even how the main character looked like, the dragons name, nothing like-
@ANGELINA for watching the movie when she was 10🙂
"While most places have Ponies or Parrots..." Ange: "Hey, don't diss Parrots." No love for the ponies lol.
HAHAHA
Fun fact: Toothless personality was based off one of the creators cat 🐈⬛
Fun fact!!
Toothless’s movements, emotions and character where all based off of a cat!
I personally think u can really see that!
John Powell got an Oscar nod for the OST, but lost out to The Social Network.
I still say he got robbed.
DANG social networks score is incredible too but so hard to compare the two as they are so different!!! If they were separate years…
26:00 It's summer. And also in Scandinavia it fairly often snows in summer but it tends to melt away immediately.
if you didnt catch it, the scene in which hiccups father leaves that room after saying "you're not my son" you sort of see his face go pale, and he stops as if he wants to go back in, but feels more obligated to 'end this war and make our home safe' showing that he IS a good father but also one who is willing to put everything on the line to make his home safe
"You know that dragon didn't brush it's teeth"........ fantastic commentary!
Just discovered your channel, you catch everything 😍🙏🏼
Left is everything in this film
Left Socks
Left Tail Fin Missing On Toothless
Tuffnut Saying "You've Just Never Seen Me From The Left Side."
Hiccup Losing His Left Leg
If anyone click off you Ange they need to be like Icarus and fly to close to the sun, you are a delight and a treasure to reaction watchers. Keep inspiring others with that glimmer of sunlight you give us with your videos!!!!
This is the BEST triogy ever. Even the sequels are interesting and great storyline!
When Toothless hesitated it was actually due to a glitch with the model but the animators thought it made the scene more impactful so they kept it in. I absolutely love this franchise, it’s what sparked my interest in animation.
Quit spreading misinformation.
It's in the director's commentary on the disc that the animator put the hesitation in because it felt natural to him.
@@garyballard179 It actually is an animation error, one of the animators added an extra key frame in on accident and they just decided to keep it in.
@@wilesnailspower9781
No, the _eye opening behind the wing_ was an error.
The hesitation was a conscious choice.
Please watch THE NEVERENDING STORY!
yah. story is sooooo well written. so many things so brilliantly set up and paid off. and the music is SHOCKINGLY good... this movie came out the same year as avatar so i saw both in the theater and both movies have a romance riding dragons scenes... this one blew avatar out of the fucking water... and the music played a huge part in that. but also the beauty of the shots in that sequence.... for me, this was like kungfu panda... i was just expecting meh another cartoon... and i was leveled by just how much care and attention they put into every little thing and how amazing the results were. total surprise.
Hook prosthetics can be used to grip things, like a sloth's claws. Particularly useful for gripping the railing of a ship.
Toothless' noises were made by mixing elements of sounds from elephants, horses, tigers, cats, and a little bit of human vocalisation as well
Finally someone who gives John Powell THE RECOGNITION 👏🏻HE 👏🏻DESERVES👏🏻
Hiccup in serious kinda deep voice : Night fury the unholy offspring of lighting and death itself
Angeli in surprise and interested voice : Unholy osspriuh aighjj dessz self !?!?!?!
🤣🤣🤣 I subscribed just for that and this is my frist time watching her channel
HOW HAVE YOU NEVER SEEN THIS TRILOGY OMFG :O
Also the HTTYD franchise is one of the few coming of age films (or any films, really) to also naturally, respectfully, and organically include loss of limb and physical disability as part of not just one, but MULTIPLE characters' story arcs without making it an overly large part of the storyline.
Toothless' roars/dive bomb noises come from big cats, elephant seals, horses, fighter planes and Randy Thom going into a room and screaming lmao
The left side references are a reference to the directors' first film together, "Lilo and Stitch." Stitch was programmed to steal everyone's left shoe.
The fact is all dragons voice makes by a mixture of all animals sound .
11:56 fun fact: that hesitation was actually a glitch in the animation software they were using
I had a stuffed animal of toothless lol
14:21 I immediately gasped and said "Puppy!" out loud
Can’t wait for you to react to the rest of the trilogy
Oh, by the way, that thing is a Night-fury dragon, just one that everyone fears... for no reason."
when toothless has hiccup under his wings he waits for stoic to apologize just like he waited for astrid to apologize
The TV series, Riders of Berk and Race to the Edge are also great
