Note: Measure the garage spring to make sure you order the most appropriate replacement size.
1. Measure the old spring length
2. Measure the old spring inside diameter
3. Measure the garage spring wire size
It is recommended to hire a professional if you have any hesitation about replacing garage door springs. Injury could occur if the process is down incorrectly.

Wow! Great job and video! Thanks for sharing. How long does the job take you? How many cycles the spring you ordered? And how much?
Thanks, the project did not take very long. I do not recall the specifics on the spring cycles but they seem to working well.
Some of these newer springs are 16,000-20,000 cycles..
Hi, I got a Amarr double very heavy garage door (we are in hurricane zone) which is out of balance because is almost impossible to lift it manuanlly. I follwed your video and I found that I can't rotate the springs any more, they are totaled compressed. What should be the issue here, are the springs damaged, lost of eleasticty, old and need to be replaced?. The whole garage door and lifting system was changed in 2015. Thank you
at 5.58 you are installing the left hand wound spring if I'm not mistaken. Shouldnt that be the one with black marking? it looks like yours is marked red which should go on the other side- I migjt be confused myself
These springs had weird coloring. I was confused at first but generally the red and black signify which spring is which.
@@MrKistel Thanks for your reply and the video. I did mine yesterday amd it went smooth thanks to you.
How long did it take you
Did the bushing come with the springs?
I believe so
Can i getba link of where to buy the springs?
see the video description
Hi Mr. Kistel.
Hey back at ya
@@MrKistel recognize me, joe?
👍👍👍👍👍👍 stay to side of springs!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Always!
I just replaced mine. But why is it that it seems that that particular side spring is more common to break?
Congrats on your repair. Not sure if there is a trend for one side to snap more likely than the other.
What weight did you use.. 90 lb?
The new springs should be similar in specifications to the springs that are being replaced.
@@MrKistel ok.thank you!
Haven't seen the cable being hacked up in the wheels 😮😢
Happened to me. I do not like the 2 cable!!
How much for labor?
200-250$
Includes parts and labor
There's some rule of the internet stating "If it happened, there is a TH-cam video of it."
The platform includes a wealth of knowledge that is for sure.
Nice job. I should have looked this job up before I paid someone to replace a broken spring on one of my doors. I could have saved a huge portion of the $1200 that I just spent. :(
Thanks for watching and the comment.
how to easily open the door if the spring is broken
They can be really heavy. Might take a couple to a few strong people to open it. Have to be super careful it does not fall on anyone in the process.
Well there mr. Kistel...do you kiss and tell?
certainly not rocket surgery. But not all garage doors are that basic!
Do you think a woman can do this job?
I do my own yard work and some home projects?
Just painted my home?
I believe anyone should decide to attempt or not based on their own abilities, experience, and overall understanding of the process.
Since we're all about safety, let's use the proper size tools. The setscrews take a 7/16 Wrench not a 3/8. it may work with 3/8 but there is slop.
Springs he’s using here perfectly fit the open end of a 3/8 wrench
Open end of the 3/8 (no slop!) or a 7/16 *12 point* socket or closed end.
