Damn, the circumstances behind Vegeta's resentment and hatred towards Goku are completely otherwordly, but I think most of us can somewhat relate to Vegeta. There is always someone that is naturally better than you at just about everything, and no matter the amount of work and dedication you put in, you will never be able to reach them. They may just have the one thing you desire more than anything and they don't appreciate it, and that just makes you all the more resentful and it can start to erode you from the inside out. I never really understood Vegeta's pain until I got older and tasted something very similar to it myself.

as a kid i admired goku because of his stoutness and wanting to do the right thing. and that's still admirable, i'm not going to take that away from him. but at a young age, i guess i had a hard time understanding why veggie hated goku. i only got the part that goku was better than him, from what i could understand at the time, but rewatching the series has showing there's so much more depth to hating him than "he's better than me". Even if i don't necessarily agree with it, I can sympathize with his motives, I get where he's coming from. And having moments like this where i come to a new level of understanding a person and their actions more, makes me appreciate this show more than I ever did as a kid. Yes there is a shit ton of fighting in this show, but there's an underlining purpose to all of it.

What hit me was when he was insulted by the Supreme Kai also when he called his squabble meaningless....his response of “spend most of your life ruled by another, watch your race dwindle to a handful and tell me what’s more meaningful than ones strength!” That just hit me that Vegeta has been abused physically and emotionally for so long that everything else outside being strong couldn’t mean shit to him! It's a good speech and all but it wasn't anything we haven't heard before. We've known he resented Goku for a long time being stronger than him and it was his main motivation to be stronger. It wasn't until Vegeta finally admitted to himself and accepted that Goku is better that he truly developed in my eyes.

This line REALLY channels Vegeta's anger over that first fght they had; despite becoming basically brothers, Vegeta never really got over that.
Vegeta represents that hard working person and Goku represents that person who was born with a gift. It's like you cramming and constantly studying for a test, and getting a D while the other guy who didn't study at all got an A..... There's that 1 person who does things so effortlessly while you struggle to do them.

as a kid i admired goku because of his stoutness and wanting to do the right thing. and that's still admirable, i'm not going to take that away from him. but at a young age, i guess i had a hard time understanding why veggie hated goku. i only got the part that goku was better than him, from what i could understand at the time, but rewatching the series has showing there's so much more depth to hating him than "he's better than me". Even if i don't necessarily agree with it, I can sympathize with his motives, I get where he's coming from. And having moments like this where i come to a new level of understanding a person and their actions more, makes me appreciate this show more than I ever did as a kid.
Yes there is a shit ton of fighting in this show, but there's an underlining purpose to all of it.

What hit me was when he was insulted by the Supreme Kai also when he called his squabble meaningless....his response of “spend most of your life ruled by another, watch your race dwindle to a handful and tell me what’s more meaningful than ones strength!” That just hit me that Vegeta has been abused physically and emotionally for so long that everything else outside being strong couldn’t mean shit to him!

No he wasn't. SSJ3 was not even an idea at this point. The manga hadn't even mentioned super saiyan 3. So at this point Goku and Vegeta are in fact fighting on equal ground both as SSJ2 and at heir limits.
Lonely FatGuy actually, in the anime, Goku mentioned he learned to go SSJ3 before he came back to Earth. Why do you think when Vegeta returned after his sacrifice that he took the news of SSJ3 hard? Goku was holding back in this fight and that realization broke Vegeta as he fully realized he would never defeat Goku, because they will never truly fight on an even playing field.

This line alone shows how much Vegeta has been put through to get where he is, and all just to be second fiddle to someone who was supposed to be Lower than him. Vegeta is single handily the best developed character in DBZ.
It's a good speech and all but it wasn't anything we haven't heard before. We've known he resented Goku for a long time being stronger than him and it was his main motivation to be stronger. It wasn't until Vegeta finally admitted to himself and accepted that Goku is better that he truly developed in my eyes.

He had never known what it was like to be "defeated ". Having to soak that in ? Must have been unimaginably painful for a guy like Vegeta . Then , for Kakarot, the one that defeated Vegeta , to go on and be the one to Defeat Frieza , (The guy Vegeta had dreamed of one day destroying ), was like adding salt to his wounds .
And THEN, realizing he was no match for Cell , and the one to defeat him was ..a mere child ? He was then surpassed by an 11 Year old Boy !? Vegeta already had one foot in the grave , and I believe his Majin Phase was him attempting to get that one foot out of the grave and reclaim his throne as the prince of all Saiyans .
But even then, later we find out Goku could have gone SSJ3 During this fight but held back ? Toriyama has toyed with and destroyed Vegeta throughout every fucking Saga . What an asshole !
