Canadian Cold Start For Carb Haters , Don't let a vacuum leak or timing issue sway you from using this simple device, it has been a reliable piece of equipment for over 50 years
Sometimes I miss having carbureted .. in fact I’ve often thought with the build I have in my truck about doing an intake carb swap .. I still am contemplating lol .. that starts an runs real nice Gary .. good show 👍
Thanks Darren the video was kinda geared to all the guys that do conversions or LS swaps and the reason I keep hearing is they want something reliable, well I think carburetors have been reliable for over 50 years but get one vacuum leak and guys get frustrated
I always say that - if your carb is tuned CORRECTLY, and everything else is funny functional, then cold starts should NOT be an issue with a carb. Harleys also have the same myth of not liking cold starts, yet mine is fine when it's below freezing!
Seems to be alot of fear or lack of understanding with this simple device and I find alot of folks will try every other option to get away from learning the 4 basic carb circuits
I'm jealous. Mine runs beautifully if it's warmed up, but I can't make it start easily at 0°C / 32°F. How did you set your timing? And do you know what your idle AFR and vacuum is?
I personally do not however a good friend of mine did a build with six micuni carbs on his car years ago and it worked well, I probably made a spelling error there
I find that most people that hate carburetors just don't understand them, yes fuel injection is a far superior technology when it works properly however if I have a problem on the side of the road I can get this thing home with a screw driver, if you have a problem on the side of the road you have no options but to call a tow truck, I can also buy three new carbs for the price of one conversion kit , the carb in this video has been on my car for seven years and I've not touched it once
Love the car !
Thanks very much appreciate that 👍

Runs great in the cold and not a thing wrong with a carb....that's what we were raised on!!!
Your right they were made that way

Great advice Gary..
Thanks Gregory 😊
My 72 Blazer is driving me bonkers trying to get a decent cold start. I am near Chicago.
May not be a carb issue, make sure the ignition system is solid timing etc your in a better climate than I am here in Canada
I think many people don't tune their carburetors right or have fouled carbs so yes they don't run right.

Initial timing is 16* and total is 36* vacuum is 14in and no idea on the afr
What kind of mufflers you have ?
They are Flowmaster super 40s 3inch pipe , it's a kit called American thunder specifically made to fit the chevelle
Do you have a x pipe ?
@user-pk8lo5rz7r the kit has an H pipe in it
Sound good
Thanks for sharing. Good straight forward advice. 👍🏻
Do you have any cars with motocycle carburators?
I personally do not however a good friend of mine did a build with six micuni carbs on his car years ago and it worked well, I probably made a spelling error there
Why are you advocating for this horse and buggy technology. What’s next, why 8-tracks are better than cd’s??
