Its a poor reflection on the people of Australia to be honest.
Just let Courier und Robson do the important interviews. They know how the players feel after exhausting matches and do exeptional work interviewing with heart and loads of empathy!!!
Just weird. You have guys like Courier and McEnroe asking great questions, then you have people just asking non sense. I am just curious how they come up with questions, as I assume they come somewhat prepared.
Last year I was hearing a lot of McInroe being disrespectful. No one stopped him and he kept it up for the whole match regarding one of the players. I can't remember which match but it was a grand slam. Some of what was said by these commentators said things that aren't insulting, just the way Aussies talk. There's a lot of sarcasm in the culture. I understand what and how they're saying it and to an Aussie, it's not insulting. Having said that, Ben is spot on.
I mean Tien's interview just shows how the young men is not known how to handle these kind of questions. It wasn't that serious or deep, the one where they disrespected the hell out of Novak was EXTREMELY RUDE! I am surprised Novak actually did an on-court interview after the QF match against Alcaraz, seeing as the "apology" was so fake and insincere.
I'm glad more players are speaking out! Broadcasters need to understand that mocking players does not entertain the audience and instead turns everyone off after a great game. It generates no profit and harms viewership.
So glad he spoke up. The way some of these journalists and commentators speak to or even about some of the players is awful! Not just in Australia, but Wimbledon journalists, in particular, can be really rude!
Shame on the media and reporters! Good for Ben to speak up! Naomi Osaka been speaking on this for years! Enuf trash talking the players! I dont like all players, but belittling them is not right.
Good for Shelton on calling out the disrespectful behavior of the on and off court interviews. Jim Courier interviewed Sinner and kept insisting over and over again for Sinner to give his comments on who will win the Novak vs Alexander match. Sinner stated clearly he didn't feel comfortable making such a prediction and also avoided discussing his game plan against whomever the winner would be. Eventually, Sinner cut off and walked away and good for him.
Having visited Australia, I'd say that Aussies are straight to the point,, they'll say and ask you stuff that might make you feel uncomfortable,,, either take it with a pinch of salt or give them a clap back... Overall they're genuine, warm, friendly and a welcoming people 👍😂
Yes the interviews have been rather cringe at times.
