I did manage to get a small discount which should work if you go through the main Radioddity website. Radioddity tell me that since my first video they have sold out on UK Amazon but are getting new stock soon. $15 discount buying link here. (search QT-80) radioddity.refr.cc/default/u/fredrose
The radio does have bandpass filtering for 15m. It is a very clean radio. (Harmonics -58dBc at 15m, which is the worst case on that radio, it's better again on the other bands). So, it's all good on the HAM bands. 73.
Thankyou Fred for using the tune ...great videos as always
Pleasure. I love it. You will hear it on most CB radio video's form now. Next time i do a time lapse sequence i will play the complete version. Thanks again.
@@CB-RADIO-UKI love the opening tune
Frid in the shed your new Raddioddity Qt-80 CB radio is awesome my friend
I own the Radioddity QT60 but to be able to use that on 11 meter you need to cut the white wire and move over a jumper. Thanks for showing people how to use it on 11 meter and 15 meter 21 mhz Fred, Thanks for the review! 19DCG187 73
Cheers FRED been seeing this radio all over TH-cam at the moment, and from what I'm hearing about it everyone loves it, thanks, PS love the music.ALAN.💯👍
That's how this stuff works. When they've got a new product to push, they send it out to all the TH-cam influencer shills at the same time. Everybody 'loves it' because everybody's making money flogging them to you.
Hi Alan and thanks. I ve been joining Dan and Richard a few afternoons in the week just before 5pm on the 305. If your set up gives us a shout from the side.
@@CB-RADIO-UK right I be listening and calling . CT 48/70 . Cheers
I have the CRT older version. The radio performs so well but I find that the bounce on the channel - frequecy control most frustrating also the fact that you lose the set channel frequency when tuning in frequency mode. Now if the channel frequencies stayed put (looks to be fixed on the new radio) and it had a proper weighted vfo control (the control now looks a bit better), what a radio. Great video by the way.
Yes agree. All that has been fixed on this version.
I would say that it's the best 10m HAM radio in the world. It's more 10m (+12m and 15m) than just CB, but it can do it all! 73
Do I have to open up those HF bands 10 m 12 m and 15 m? Or do they already come programs and available for use out of the box? Thank you PS I am a general
@@JOHN_COSMO it's 10m only out of the box. You press some buttons on the front to enable 12m through to 10m. (Simple). And if you want to unlock the entire range from 15 m to 10 m, you only have to move a small jumper inside the radio. There is no soldering, etc. 73
@@mostlypostie1 thank you sir
@@JOHN_COSMO you are welcome! 73
A big thanks for putting this cb up on your channel. It seems like a nother great one. I might get one if all goes well. Thumbs up 👍
Frid in the shed i wish you and your wife and kids and dog 73s my friend
The new Anytone AT-6666 Pro is also about to come out, on test its pushing 90+ watta SSB, 45 FM watts, it will open up frequencies as the QT80 moving the jumper from position 2 to 3 making it a Quand band, same radio
@@Superfandangoo the PRO is already out. It was first. They are the same. 73.
Frid in the shed I learn lot from you about bying cb radios and antennas for cb radios and power supplys for cb radios my friend
The power from the spec's stated are as follows AM 80W(PEP) / FM 50W / SSB 80W(PEP). Will have to see what they do push out! which would be interesting.
@@RelaxingMusicfromASMRKri-sq8nt you will see around 100 watts PEP from this radio without any modifications. 73
Thank you! This is actually the first useful review from that radio I've seen so far.
Part 2 coming up mid week.
Nice new intro 😊 and very nice radio too.
I'm glad you like it
Wpuld love to see manufacturers offer a retro 1970's/ 80's style option- plenty of chrome, wood veneer etc
Yes would be great esp if it was a base station.
Nice to see the progress of the layout of the boards! I use a SuperStar 3900 (2023version) and although the boards are totally different, there are similarities in design! Whether these are the result of technical progress or silently the same manufacturer I leave in the middle.
Couple of weeks ago I had a solid contact with the UK with the SuperStar, in my car with a simple antenna... I was really amazed!
Thanks again Fred for this nice video, and I keep saying it, you are one of the best!
Thank you
Love the intro music..
I have one on order, got it direct from radioddity, Also if you hold down the band button it puts the radio in to vfo mode.
Hi. Thanks. Yes i work that out in Part 2 cheers.
Frid in the shed your TH-cam videos are awesome my friend
FOXTROT , ROMEO , ECHO, DELTA
Now you just need to tell us where we can get if from. Was about to buy the CRT SS6900nv given the lack of 9900s atm. But I'll wait
Hi. All buying links in the description. The UK Amazon link has been acting up but should be fixed soon.
@CB-RADIO-UK Thanks Fred. Love your playlists and channel. Has got me right back into things
@CB-RADIO-UK Just to add; yes I got your links, but the item is unavailable on UK Amazon and presumably subject to import tax from Radioddity?
The cosmetic design unfortunately lacks imagination. It would be refreshing to see something new altogether. Thanks for the review ❤👍
Good timing Fred, waiting for this to be stocked in my local radio shop, looking good.

Nice radio Fred in the Shed i been working on my siro sy27 4 since june you should pole mount i made i did some tests on my 4elment 11ft i was amazed my antenna got out with cobra139 with mfj-974h with sliver eagle 200
Nice one bud
Like the new songs for CB radio
56CT004
25:06 got ya UK
Cheers for the video Fred and the mention, ref older model. The version I own has good second harmonics on the 15m band and is down on output to a still reasonably 50/60 watts SSB on there. So not just a gimmick (if you are a licenced Ham). All the best, Dave M0OGY 🙂
Cheers Dave. Yes been following your videos.
How did you get The Eagles to do the in and outro song? ;-) nice radio Fred, thanks for the video. 73
Another excellent video Fred, Thank you! Have you ever considered Stryker SR955HP? Looking at reviews it appears to be really good???
I did briefly look at it but they wanted something like £400 which was a bit much for a rig.
Great video Fred🎉🎉
He fred got my call sign from Charlie Tango
Nice one
If you like a radio with a very high noise floor , to where you can't hear half of the signals coming in, then this is the radio for you.
I live in a very quiet qth, not a lot of RFI. All my other radios that I have have a very low noise floor.
I love working weak signals.
This radio is going back to radioddity.
@@straightpride451 I have 3 of them, with no noise floor at all. S0 to S1 on a quiet band. These radios are far more sensitive than any traditional radio of this type of the past, So my advice is to find what is causing your issue because it's going to be local to you, or in your shack, and not the fault of the radio. The other thing which is always the case, is regardless of your signal metre reading on that radio the signal to noise ratio will be better which means it's still hears better than your other radios. (Close your eyes, don't look at the metre, And I bet you still hear things better than you do on your "quite" radios).
73.
@@mostlypostie1
You didn't read my post thoroughly.
I stated in my post that I have several radios and all my other radios have a very low noise floor, compared to the qt80.
@@straightpride451 I read your post perfectly fine. Did you read mine? Give my suggestion a try because these radios only receive what is really there. There is also an RF gain control to use if it's a problem for you. And yes, They are far more sensitive than radios that have come before it. 73
Having owned a few CRT versions i can confirm that with the RF gain on max the radios "show" a high noise level. However if you want the meter reduced you just back off the RF gain a little. Performance wise the noise in the ear is the same as any other radio. However i do live in a built up nigh noise area so cannot say if its the same in a quite area.
I think jammers. are still in use in the south southeast fred
:-(
@@CB-RADIO-UK jammers Fred are easy to make as you no unused old rigs a battery and twig mic taped on maybe next to or near a repeater and a burner it's a sad fact that a few get a kick out of the minor disruption it creates still have a good. One Fred keep going mate👍
Nice one Fred, cheerz.!
PLZ use the heavior cable with TWO Fuses , Neg- and Pos+.
Not sure the cable is higher amps but now a connector.
All radios should have the two fuses.
Not enough time to explain, sorry..
Awesome video thx
Fred: I need to ask your opinion on this Radio, I
I respect your opinion, you have been doing this a long time, I go back to the days when an Antron 99 was $49.99. LOL. I just bought the QT80. I don't know if this is a typo. In the manual under RF Gain Control it states, Turn it clockwise to increase gain and anti-clockwise (counter-clockwise) to reduce gain. If one turns it clockwise, it goes down to Of and I have gain, if I turn the RFG counter-clockwise the numbers go from 01-48 with no gain increase. Seems kind of backwards. Please advise. I have better gain keeping the Squelch up and using the pre-amp on the amp.
That is so odd. I ve been using mine all week and if deffo works clockwise. You are turning the inner pot and not the outer TX power ring ?
@@CB-RADIO-UK 10-4 have the radio set for two watts as I have it mated w/a RM-KL-405.
Question Fred and others…….. about to buy a radio. Either: new version crt ss9900, president Washington or qt80? Thoughts? Will be using cb/ssb, but likely to do foundation in ham soon. Will use as base and sometimes mobile. Thanks for any opinions etc.
Where do you get this radio from ive looked on line but cant find one the nearest ones are crt 7900 or a president Lincoln 2
Links in the description.
now i m wondering wich radio you like the best, the crt 9900 or the 6900? i found out that the stock mic that comes with the 6900 if you make the mic hole a bit bigger the modulation improved
Over many years ive used the 6900 more than the 9900.
@@CB-RADIO-UK that’s because he loves his 9900 is precious , lol 😝
look up Antenna mount update 89% done August 21 2024
Just ordered a anyone 6666 pro for my car can't wait for it to arrive 73s 29ct021
Frid in the shed you do a awesome job at explaining how cb radios work and power supplys work on cb radios and power supplys work on CB radios my friend
And how reading back and reading back to what you've wrote doesn't make you look a retard.
and of course being able to spell supplies helps as well..
Hi Fred .I don't ear any chat about other freehand eg 49 mhz or the end of 20 mtr .
22:57 you went on 27mhz so can you go CB radio
Yes works fine on 11m.
90 % of people will never use any radio on max radio power most people with any intelligence will have a small amp i.e a kl203 & allow 8 watts to drive the amp & produce about about 80 watts radio will remain cool & the amp does the hard work I can see lot's of these radios going up in smoke
@@carldorking8924 this radio does 100w PEP with no modifications (you will see this), So there is absolutely no point in using a kl203 (unless you would like to turn a very clean signal from the radio, into a less clean one via the amplifier). 73
I think they have controlled the heat build up this time. Unless you want to run extreme power then really you dont need a cheap amp with this radio. Ive been using it all week and quite happy getting everywhere on 20 w SSB. I do get that people prefer an amp though.
I heard everyone talking about heat issues so as soon as it arrived I drilled it for 2x40 mm fans and I removed the speaker drilled it out stuffed a 80mm fan inside and then trimmed out that fin where the coax plugs in for my fat fingers ., I run the radio hard and never had any heat issues .. not even warm.
What power supply do you use for this radio, any suggestions
Min 16 amp. I would use this one myself. th-cam.com/video/mh4r2rjnk9c/w-d-xo.html
Take a shot of booze each time Fred says the word ‘radio’
Hey Fred :) hope your well checkout the anytone 6666 pro :)
Hi bud. Yeah same radio.
I found the new beginning and end titles a bit too cheesy for me. 😮
Thanks for you opinion. I quite like it for now. May change things around in the future.
keep with the finger snap intro, not A.I. It's more hometown!
One of my subs wrote and performed a song for me along with his wife. I love it and its staying.
@@CB-RADIO-UK oh ok! I apologize.
the text you put in the video when you where had the radio open you cant read its to low lol
Oh ok thanks for letting me know.
Still no fan with we all no it's needed
But the law says 10 watts?
12 watts on SSB, 4 watts FM and AM.
How do you get it modded to 11mtr for uk FM
He's going to do that in Part 2. Said at the end
@@colincooke6417 you just push the mode button and the meun at the same time and turn it on.👍
Yes all shown in Part 2 midweek video.
Them radios are not CB radios .They are Ham radios..Why do you keep saying they are CB radios..
Because once re programmed they become FREEBAND cb radios. Thats how we use them.
Cheap clone
The Washington is the best
Nice radio but almost 50% more money in the UK.
