saw some HPS 110W SON-E from Osram in past that have inside the bulb starter like this we see in neon bulb fixtures. Interesting how they evolve later before LED.
Yes, it is actually a good tool to have. It's a shame you live far away; otherwise, you could have my old one, which is a bit worn. You can just file the edges, and it will be like new again.
In practice I think they last the same, metal halide lamps lose a lot of brightness, they will lose up to 25% maybe more and at the end of their life or nearing the end of their rated life, high pressure sodium lamps like usually higher 100, 150 , 250, 400, 600 and 1000 watts won't lose more than 10% worst case, usually low power 35, 50 and 70 watts will lose 20% brightness at most, I think HPS bulbs are better than metal halide bulbs for many reasons there is nothing better than high pressure sodium lamps other than LEDs, HPS lamps are clearly the best gas discharge lamps that take second place, clearly no they are not low pressure sodium lamps, they can actually be very efficient lamps , but monochromatic light is ugly and gives a very limited atmosphere, low pressure sodium lamps are extremely good, only in areas where it is needed, such as observatories, in northern areas that often have a lot of fog, but I don't think it is necessary since the lamps high pressure sodium works well in these cases! And objectively: I don't hate LEDs because they are ugly or because I don't like them, I hate them sometimes when they make them so sensitive and fail faster than their rated life! but overall the LED is extremely good in the first place! LED, High Pressure Sodium and Low Pressure Sodium are the best bulbs ever! Right after that are fluorescent lamps which are extremely good mainly indoors and finally metal halide and high pressure mercury lamps where they have proven reliable in the past but they are outdated and old but unfortunately many leds are not very good many leds fail faster than their rated lifetime, to be good LEDs have to be expensive, how expensive, at least twice as much as a Chinese one, the ones they put on the streets are good and reliable LEDs that will last at least 10 years and more, these are the only leds that I can call them RELIABLE!!!
simply, high pressure sodium lamps will have very good brightness retention compared to metal halide lamps which at the end of their life or even earlier will lose their brightness very badly, they can lose up to 25% maybe more compared to high pressure sodium lamps usually lose about 10-12% and metal halide lamps have a tendency to explode in some cases, especially when they are at the end of their life or especially when used beyond their rated life there can be get really dangerous!

Was that old ignitor an BAG Turgi made one? with Osram SE600 or Ste 501 starter element?
I think so, but I didn’t check properly. It looked really burnt, so I just focused on replacing it 😂🤷♂️
How did you no wen street light stop working?
For we have received a fault report on it, and then I turn on the facility to ensure it.🫶

Unfortunately, the shipping costs exceed the value of the tools themselves.
Very strange capacitor indeed! the ignitor was chinese made i guess! Does this fixture light have HPS?
I don't know but there is. I don't know how true it is but I heard that metal halide bulbs have a shorter lifespan compared to sodium bulbs. 🤔
