@@SaintKeonihe did it for the thrill and to have an enterprise as successful as Grey Matter/ Gretchen and Elliot in his meth empire. Not to use the money to buy luxurious shit, with the exception of the Rolls Royce and the Dodge Challenger but he was clearly having some sort of mental breakdown/ crisis during that. Walter’s motives for the meth empire were never material.

He lost his reputation. He lost everything. He knew it was a matter of time before he was going to get caught. The least he wanted to do was still leave the remaining cash he had to his family and set things right with Jesse.
