I really like the faster tempo, it gives a sense of urgency that I have never heard before and it seems to me that the instruments respond better in this tempo than in slower tempi. I still really like the performance available on their album. Philippe Herreweghe really brings a divine dimension to baroque and classical works. His Mozart requiem was a revelation. But this is rarely the case with Herreweghe, anyway. I don't mind the dry room. Herreweghe recordings from around 2010 sound like they were recorded in a bathroom. @@MrNicks-gn8jc I'd listened to some Bach, you know, Brandenburgs, Yo-yo Ma, Andras Schiff. Choral music was just not my thing. I'm not sure why they decided to post a general rehearsal video. Some of the soloists seemed to be "marking," as is often done when a rehearsal is to be followed shortly by a performance. It hardly does their voices justice. Despite the feeling that people are not quite on their toes (as they would be in a concert), this still was an emotionally satisfying experience. They have the work in their bones. (I just looked at the date again: March 31, 2020. Perhaps the scheduled concert had to be cancelled because of the pandemic. If so, I am glad that could give us this at least.)
