    You may be thinking, well it wasn't AWD since Mazda would have to develop stronger axles and gearbox and diffs that were on the Japanese Mazda 3 AWD, but here's the thing, even with the FWD platform, Mazda had to make stronger Axles, different transmission, and diff than what was on the standard Mazda 3, so whether they went AWD or FWD they still had to develop many new parts for the drivetrain, and it'd be easy for Mazda to use the basic structure from the Speed 6s axles, diffs etc IF they did need to change it, but that's my 2 cents, what do you guys think?
    Thanks for watching!!! See you next week!

      Yeah, someone pointed that out, the need to fight the torque steer and wheel spin is fun, that's a good point, I didn't think about that, though getting into the higher power levels can be sketchy to say the least 👀

    Yyyyeeeepp, I love Mazda, currently own 1979 Mazda 323 box shape (rear wheel drive) and it's my project car, but considering buying another car but the options are so limited with newer Mazda's, all FWD, so it's either Rx8 or Speed 6. I would have liked a Speed 3 but the FWD is a deal breaker. Makes me look at other brands man. It's sad😔

      Mazda FTWWW. That 323 sounds cool bro, I wish Mazda made more cool cars, like you said with better power train layouts, I wish Mazda would give us enthusiasts some new options, doesn't look promising though 😢

    Recently did a trip to Malaga in my 2011 Gen2 - 3MPS - weather was great and the roads are fabulous in Southern Spain. Without giving too much away what a perfect day, not too much traffic and plenty of open roads. I just let the torque pour on in mainly 4th to 6th. Even though I was using it reasonably hard ( got to be careful in Spain nowadays as the fines for speeding are pretty steep), fuel consumption worked out at 27 mpg at the days end. These cars are a joy to own if you keep them relatively standard and take care of them. Keep the good work up.

    Just for the record there is an intake designed into the front bumper and hood for the intercooler on the first gen Mazdaspeed 3 and a similar one for the Mazdaspeed 6. So the cold air rushes in up front in between the headlights just past the Mazda "M" emblem. 😉

    You're spot on brother. Even the new Mazda3 AWD...why can't they make a speed version...It would make a great competitor to Toyota, VW, Subaru, Ford etc...I sold my speed 6 a year ago and I missed it so much last winter. Don't get me wrong. Even FWD, the speed 3 will try to kill you when you put down over 300 whp at the wheels. One thing that I can't complaing about the 2nd gen Speed 3 is that everytime I drive it, it makes me smile like a kiddo and I'm 37. But I'll be looking for a speed 6 for winter driving. But those in really good conditions here are rare because of our winters. salty roads and stuff. it eats though the metal like fkin cancer. Dunno if I could import one from the US...? Nice video mate. So what do you thinl about the new turbocompressed Mazda 3 but no boost on the AWD??? THey effed up pretty bad and i'm pissed about it...

    • @LifeOfTuners
      @LifeOfTuners  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, right now is perfect for a new speed, they've got awd, a turbo engine, a best in class interior and build, still while having a sporty drive.
      One thing you said, that's why I love them so much, they do fun so well.
      Mm yeah salt isn't good, it'd probably be quite possible to get one from the US, I believe, just yeah make sure it's from a dry state
      Tbf I'm kinda pissed with modern Mazda as a whole atm, like they don't seem to be thinking about us enthusiasts, apart from the MX5 which is great, but like come on, at basically 155whp by the time you count for drivetrain loss, that can't be your only offering. And how they sorta teased a new Mazdaspeed a couple years ago..... Then nothing bruhhh

  • @SugmaDLigmaNutz
    @SugmaDLigmaNutz 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Mazda missed a HUUGE opportunity to compete with Subaru STi's & Mitsubishi Evo's. Such a shame that they didn't just use similar drivetrain to the speed6. This car deserves AWD.

  • @Mosdager
    @Mosdager 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    One reason. Cost. For them to actually develop the AWD system, it would cost Mazda a lot more money. Yes they have the RX-8 Rear Differential which is in the Mazda 6 MPS, but they still have to build it which costs money. Mounts, Prop Shaft, Different Exhaust path to accommodate for the Prop Shafts and Rear Differential, different Rear Subframe or Reinforced to accommodate for a Rear Differential. Rear Hubs need to be replaced. Driveshafts. Rear Brakes need to be upgraded to deal with the stresses of the extra mass. Tuning and other Traction and Stability systems. I've probably missed out on something else, but I've got the bulk of the main points. It's much more expensive than people make it out to be. At that point the price difference between the Mazda 6 MPS and Mazda 3 MPS wouldn't be that logical. They would have to sell it for much more that it was to make a profit. At which point very few would purchase. It's all business. Not to mention, the performance of the car will suffer as a result of the extra mass.

    Yes to everything you mentioned on this piece. Whomever was apart of that engineering team now most likely teach PE or flip burgers because the insane amount of potential that was wasted on the speed3’s make me sick to my stomach. Also, why did they decide to make the speed6’s for only two years and then resort solely on speed3’s? I myself own a black cherry mica 06 speed6. I’ve own a 1st and 2nd gen speed3 and they are def fun. The torque steer on the speed3’s can be intense at times and does add to the overall driving experience. But I prefer my awd speed6 and always will. I really don’t understand why they had to shit to bed so bad with the speed3’s and why they on produced the speed6 for 2yrs. It’s got the makings of a bad conspiracy theory if you ask me lol. Anyways, good video... zoom zoom

    • @LifeOfTuners
      @LifeOfTuners  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the thinking behind the product planning wasn't great at all tbf, maybe because hot hatches were a more common niche? But then with the speed 6 their was so little competition, like bruh idk, like you said the planning team seems dumb, though I guess they still made a really fun hatch

  • @neutron-au
    @neutron-au ปีที่แล้ว

    One thing to remember is that there is always a reason for a specific design choice with any car from any manufacturer.
    One thing about top mount intercoolers, is that people ALWAYS create FMI conversion kits to replace them. So why go through all that engineering effort that people will end up doing anyways? Just design a TMI so the intake lengths are shorter, and save costs for the manufacturing side of things, and let the aftermarket community do the rest.
    Another thing to keep in mind is the requirements of the car. If the goal of the car is to make 250hp, and it can do it with a TMI, what's the point in running a FMI- if people want to chase power, again, they can go to the aftermarket to find replacement kits.

      Well the FMIC does lower the BATs but the trade off is that you will get a bit more of turbo lag than with the TMIC but if you’re wanting 450-500 hp then you have to go with the FMIC because the TMIC is good to only around 400 hp.

    • @LifeOfTuners

    Sure they could do a AWD Speed 3 But why ? Yeah it would definitely help reduce torqsteer and increase traction , but i dont thing it would be so fun to drive then. And thats the point , it is not a rally car like old subbies or evo. So yeah you could compare engines and Hp with these but thats all. mazda is fun car for street or maybe track.
    In terms of cornering it whas all the benfit of FWD and its lighter.
    And of course its better daily car.
    But thats my opinion. :D

    • @LifeOfTuners
      @LifeOfTuners  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You made a good point, True that, the torque steer is fun, but once you mod it a bit you'll be spinning tyres a lot more then torque steering, and like AWD cars can still be fun, look at the focus RS, but you actually do bring up a good point, fwd as much as people don't like to admit it is bloody good fun, though putting power down might be nice too, though also FWD would make for a better driver's car too

    • @tomcarr1520
      @tomcarr1520 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re insane. That’s all common with the speed 6 not to mention they are 13-14yrs old. You have to expect parts to be replaced and things to break. The speed 6’s are becoming more rare every day. They only made them in 06 & 07 and kids these days that don’t appreciate shit are crashing them or blowing up the motors. (Usually because they can’t drive for shit or they watched some TH-cam video so now they think they are a master mechanic and don’t educate themselves thoroughly) So when you take all that into account it makes sense to fix it or at least hold onto it for now because the value of them have been steadily increasing. I’m actually surprised you’ve made it to 216k without replacing the vvt or turbo. I would replace all that ASAP because you’re now flirting within zzb territory. Good luck with her
