    That's awesome, looks very clean. Pretty cool to be like a resident RF guy who can make the amp they need.

    I'm surprised that small coil for the choke inductor and those small capacitors can handle the currents required for pushing 1.4kW into an antenna

      Yeah, I am also quite surprised about ATC 800B capacitor's performance, they could handle a huge amount of power. Those 3*15pF capacitors showed around 120℃ under a thermocamera, even with the help of the heatcompound at the back of the PCB, but they are still alive after 16 hours of continuous test. The inductor is also quite hot during CW operation. However, this is the very first amplifier which will be mounted in the casing for the cyclotron, in newer amplifiers I will use higher gauge wire for that DC feeding inductor.

    What an interesting project for postgraduates. It has happened to me that in Chile I have met researchers who only work below 1 MHz; while others only over 10 GHz. What was the project about? any paper to read? Greetings.

    The BLF188 truly is a great device, very tolerant of vswr mismatches. I have used them at HF frequencies and also VHF but not as yet on higher frequencies. I have not managed to blow one, despite antenna accidents. This is the first time I have seen this chip used in a class E configuration. From your comments below I calculate the efficiency to be around 80% This seems a little on the low side. I don't see any vias along the transmission line ground planes, could this lower the efficiency? I always silver plate when working above VHF and this does make a difference. I too would like to experiment with class E and will be building a test circuit. I once saw a data sheet that suggested these chips for not really suitable for class E, I am not sure why that was the case, the only concern is a carefully controlled gate voltage swing. (EDIT, just while writing this, I remember the reason - Drain voltage swing, VDD x 4 ish for class E. Compared to VDD x 2 ish for AB.) What are your thoughts on the drain voltage problem? Great work building the amp and thanks for posting. Chris, UK.

      @@TheTemporalAnomaly Actually there are via holes around the grounding plane there. Yeah you got it right, the problem lies in the nature of Class E, too high Drain voltage. Usually it should be 3.x times the supply voltage for a standard Class E, however here I actually slightly decreased the conducting angle to let the maximum Drain voltage drop a bit to make sure it lies within the safety region. Thanks for your comment!

    Hi guy, does it run on ICP plasma tube?

    That would make an kick ass Guitar Amp.

      The top end might be a little high, and yes, that`s a joke. This amp is for radio frequencies and with this circuit, would not work in the slightest way for audio. You might look on the googler for `Class D audio amp` There are many circuits available to build your own and many more available to buy ready made with power levels in the 100s of watts minimum. They are also very cheap to buy.

    Woww👏. Does it work on higher frequencies? Like 500mhz?

      Hello sir, this amplifier is specially designed at 352MHz and it is a Class E amplifier, so the highest efficiency is achieved at 352MHz. If missed that frequency, the efficiency and the gain will decrease.

    How much did they buy it for?

    • @uecmitsuimarinedieselengin873
      @uecmitsuimarinedieselengin873  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can get around 350 dollars for each amplifier module and that's nearly just the cost: the BLF188XR cost around 200 dollars each, the board costs 20 dollars each and to buy and machine that large block of copper heatspreader costs around 80 dollars.
      By the way, actually that's a team made up of students who are interested in science and technology in มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ university and I am glad to join in. After the rebuilt of the cyclotron we could do some nuclear experiments on it.
