Sf native here 64years no sea lions at pier 39 because this time of year they are in the ocean, lots of salmon out there and bait fish to eat, plus it's mating season they go down the coast to rocky places to give birth, they will be back in Aug- sept

At least you had the place to yourselves. It's always nice to go there in the evening when there is less of a crowd. Antique arcade is always fun next to The Franciscan.

My home town SF! It is crazy to see everything deserted! It looks a lot like a ghost town. I was dying with the Acme bread sandwiches! They do have the best bread! Happy to see you out in the sunshine 🌞

Hi guys! I’m glad you tried Chowders. It’s great, isn’t it! Like I said, we use to have Boudins, back in the 90’s when we were dating and couldn’t really afford to splurge on a fancy meal. One day, the line to Boudin’s was really long so we tried Chowders. We would get one bowl of chowder in a sourdough bowl and also get an order of chicken strips and an order of fried zucchini and one Coca Cola. Yep, we shared everything. And you could get a refill of chowder for a dollar. We could get all that food for less than $15 back then which was a lot cheaper than two bowls of Boudins chowder. And 30 years later, we still go to Chowders whenever we’re in that area, and still share the food. Its definitely not $15 anymore but we still get the same items. It’s a tradition!

We missed the bread bowl chowders & Little Italy for our day there. And so sad you missed the seals! Our son was not as patient as you with the hills of that great city...but he was 9. Great vid!!!

Thanks for posting this video. My elderly parents were considering going to the city to walk around these same areas as they did before the pandemic and i referred them to this video to see what the scene was like and get a sense of how crowded and safe it was. Your adventurousness and love for food and travel benefits us all in many ways. i also told them about your story that i gathered from your Q&A vids and you have some new fans!

When I worked for the airlines we loved going to SF for the food. Soul food at Brenda's on Polk st, rooftop bar at El Techo's on Mission st and our son worked at Seven Hills on Hyde. So sad to see all the places shutdown.

What a shock to see you are back in my city and no contact. Many of your comments seem to refleck you did not check things out before making your trip. City has been sheltered in place since March. Just recently some places are able to serve outside seating. No indoor. And many have been closed since March. Many residents are without work and hence income. Tourists are not coming from domestic nor international and no conventions. Las Vegas is without conventions as well and hence they are not crowded during the week. I am happy you were able to find a few places to eat. I AM VERY HAPPY my mayor and our state are taking care to not have spikes with those infected with Covid virus. jmo

I live on the peninsula in the Bay Area and it makes me sad to hear that my city is so dead. But better to be safe than sorry I think. Right now, it seems like the virus is still running rampant. Since I'm traveling vicariously through you two, it would be nice to see a video on how it is to travel right now in the COVID-era. Stay safe and healthy you two!!

  • @lisavitale8410

I live in the Bay Area with my hubby. We love the Ferry Market Building! I've never not seen sea lion/seals along the water front before. Do you guys like fish and chips? Have you eaten at the Codmother for fish and chips near Fisherman's Wharf? Yummy, delicious!! Also try Dandelion Chocolate Factory for chocolate made in small batches. Everyone has heard of Ghiradelli. Pre-pandemic, Dandelion Chocolate Factory use to have small group behind the scenes chocolate tastings/tours at one of their SF stores where you could see the chocolate being made. These tours were totally worth it and I hope they return soon. Just a couple of recommendations for things you may have not done before in SF.

SF, my hometown. Go one block up from Grant Ave, onto Stockton St & you’ll see where the natives get their dim sum. Be sure to try out the Mission District too for their food scene. ❤️

Darlins, if you come to SF during pandemic and want to go to Chinatown, know that the main drag, Grant Ave is pretty much closed and depressing looking. Go one block down, Kearny St for some good eating, and one block up, Stockton St for the local action. it will be shoulder to shoulder so be careful not to get knocked over by someone's grandma.. take out dim sum here, great bahn Mi, and huge rice plates piled with meats. also between Grant and and Stockton are some sketchy looking alleys. look for some good restaurants here, and the open fortune cookie factory on Ross Alley.

  • @Shaknbake
    @Shaknbake 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Refreshing to see the pandemic duo living large. Holla to ya. Hey, loved the sharp resolution and the cam pan from alcatraz to gg bridge and the seal party ( IDK but probably because know one feeds them and therefore, are not interested in spot anymore? better as Jacque C.) Blasphemy on saying tomato over a bowl of chowder as I am from Boston. Keep on spreading the love.

    • @billandlisa

Next time you come to SF Chinatown, check out a great dim sum place name Good Mong Kok. It is located on Stockton St and is so good that there is always a line. Great food, generous portions at great prices! Try their porridge (pork with 1000 year egg)...very yummy and their shrimp Ha Gow have big pieces of shrimp instead of bamboo shoots other dim sum places use. They stayed opened when other places closed because of Covid-19. Check them out on yelp...a lot of satisfied customers. Love your videos! Always looking forward to your next adventure!

    Bill & Lisa,
San Francisco is still alive and kicking.
Mayor Breed and our health director Dr. Colfax are very careful about opening up retail areas where groups of people gather.
That's why San Francisco is doing well during COVID19. Merchants are being smart and open when most people go out to shop (end of the week and weekends depending on location).
Next trip: I recommend you visit the Westside neighborhoods.
Visit Clement Street in the Inner Richmond (dim sum shops! a variety of Asian foods!)
Or the 9th Avenue & Irving Street area of the Inner Sunset neighborhood (multi-cultural).
In Chinatown, Stockton Street is where locals shop for food.
For take out dim sum: try Good Mong Kok Bakery (super popular!); for egg tarts: if Golden Gate Bakery isn't open, try AA Bakery & Cafe. Both of these shops are on Stockton Street.
I enjoy your videos. Thanks for showing cool places to go. Please do come up North and visit the City again sometime soon.

Best way to start off the day with a Bill and Lisa vlog! Aww unfortunate that the city is so empty but at least you made the best of it like y'all always do and got some sight seeing in! Yumm and atleast you got to eat some norcal clam chowder from Boudin! Ugh it's unfortunate none of the dim sum spots were open that was hands down my favorite thing to eat when I was in SF it was great

Yes, we missed the dim sum and egg tarts from that one bakery. Things will eventually go on the upswing, and when they do, we'll be back! =)

Next time try Lung Fung Bakery on Clement near 21st Ave for egg tarts as good as Golden Gate for less. Then Ariscault for the absolute best croissants and kouign ammans, chocolate croissants, almond and chocolate croissants. Yum. Btw, loving your vlog!

You guys always make me giggle. My friends call you babe and baby. They follow your channel too. We always get good ideas for our meetup group from you of places to go out to eat in the Vegas area. Hopefully we will be getting out to dinner soon. The chowder looked delicious.

Nice video. Next time, skip the clam chowder (creamy clam chowder in a NorthEast thing, not a SF thing) and have something that's really San Franciscan and that's Cioppino, especially in the winter time when it's dungeness crab season. Goes great with SF sourdough bread.

If only you went on Stockton street between Washington and Jackson Street. 2 bakeries and dim sum to-go. As well as dragon fruit and mangoes. SF is still on SIP.

That's what we read on Yelp about Golden Gate Bakery, but this time the front was boarded up. Not sure if they go through the hassle of taking down and putting up the plywood barrier each time they open. It was sunny, high of 71, felt great!
