Trailers spliced to the head of my 35mm print of True Grit (2010)

  • YES I KNOW IT'S LOW TONE I'M SORRY.
Please do your best to disregard the (hopefully) subtle fluctuations in brightness throughout this video as I continue to monitor how the 24fps setting on my iPhone cam handles my projector output.
Regardless, here's something semi-sorta-new to my grab bag of 35mm posting - to give my 35mm screenings for friends and family more of a legitimate theatrical flair, depending on the length of the first reel, I go ahead and splice trailers/ads/snipes/etc. to the head of reel 1 of my features. Obviously, they each have to gel with the specific film format of the feature I'm screening - scope trailers for a scope feature, cyan dye trailers for a cyan dye feature, so on and so forth - but the end result when projected is quite rewarding and allows me to at least partially feel as though I'm in a dark multiplex booth projecting shows for larger audiences. Same stuff, different day, but... the things I'd do to go back and be that person.
But enough rambling about a different life. Please enjoy these four 35mm trailers hand-picked by yours truly to precede my personal print of Joel and Ethan Coen's wonderful 2010 western revamp, True Grit. Again, no real rhyme or reason behind why I specifically went with these ones... I have plenty of trailers and other odds and ends on the shelf, so this is just but many, many more. (And, naturally, I couldn't help but keep rolling up to the Paramount and Skydance logo at the actual head of the reel. So do enjoy that, friends.)
    Trailers featured:
    - Despicable Me (2010) (sorta beat up with emulsion lines and specks, as you can tell... 'tis how it was received)
    - Captain Phillips (2013) (still lab-sealed when I received it, although Deluxe printed the cyan soundtrack on this one very light, hence why if you have finely attuned ears as I do, you may note this one being slightly quieter than the others)
    - Max Payne (2008) (lab-sealed when received, not much from me to say here other than it was one of many trailers I got in an eBay lot)
    - Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013) (lab-sealed when rec'd, the film's final trailer, and Paramount's supposed 35mm "swan song"... which is absolutely hysterical considering they faced the music and shook hands with FotoKem for prints of Transformers: Age of Extinction... and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water... and so on...)
Per usual, I do not own any of the audiovisual material in this video - all copyrighted media is property of all respective owners.

Man brings back in the days at the movie theater in the late 2000s/2010s.

Fun Fact: Max Payne Wasn't The Only Trailer To Use "If I Was Your Vampire" By Marilyn Manson. The Trailer For Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans Also Used The Song As Well.

Ah, makes sense. It fits the tone of both films well.

The audio pitch is way lower than normal (24fps). Aside from that small issue, this is a great showcase, Gavin!

Beautiful presentation as always, but is there any particular reason the trailers are out-of-sync?

Probably just VLC (how I output my sound from the projector's mic in to my laptop then to my receiver) lagging on the audio caching. In retrospect, might have been wise for me to reboot VLC considering it had been open since my last film screening but, ah well :/
