Also helpful, if someone is worried about falling into the river of death when trying to jump onto the wheel, they can hookshot the top right corner of the ladder. Link will latch on and climb up.

You can also skip that boat fight by attacking the stalfos with dins fire. They'll fall right through the ship.

So it worked on the Game Cube Version of Ocarina.
You need to be Child Link and you need the Boomerang.
There are holes in the ground with Skultulla in them, one should be by the tree around the castle. Where Marlons father is sleeping.
Kill the Skultula, than stand with your back to the exit light. Use your Bomerang to catch the Skultula Symbol, just before it reaches you do a backflip into the exit light. If timed correctly you gain the item, and if you go back down you find the Skultula unharmed. You can repeat the process unlimited times.
Who thought about doing all that when they first discovered this glitch?
I'm not exactly sure how they found this particular setup, but my guess is that someone was looking at the collision between the gate and the wall and figured that it might be possible to push Link through the fence with a recoil off the wall. And then they just tried to find a setup to get into the perfect position

I can see the appeal of glitching your way through the game, but it honestly requires a level of button pressing ability that i do not have. I can barely target lock on and spam slash tbh. It's kinda sad.

As a roleplayer I'd only try this once to see if I can do it but thats it. Glitches break my immersion.

Tested it on my 3ds, unfortunately this particular setup does not work on 3ds. There is a method to clip through the gate on 3ds which I found in this video that seems to work pretty well (I got it first try pretty easy): th-cam.com/video/W3DmoHadx50/w-d-xo.html (sorry the video quality isn't the best, but the clip setup is good)

I actually did both of these accidentally my first time playing the game, but it wasn't exactly a speedrun.
He even said it glitch, hate when people say it's a successful speed run when using glitches. More like a speed glitch run is usually what I call them.

Good question, I've got no idea. It probably did take longer to find the glitch than to do the dungeon but I would guess the motive was trying to figure out how to do this clip to make future speedruns faster

Hmm, not sure, but I'd guess probably not. You'd have to check the randomizer race ruleset, if glitches aren't allowed, I'd say this wouldn't be allowed. I've never done a rando race so I couldn't say.
Hang on aren't those slashes done while pressing forward? If they were while the stick was neutral they would be horizontal wouldn't they?
Does that difference change the setup?
The slashes are done while holding the target button, which turns them into vertical slashes

What version of the game is this?
It's a randomizer rom which is made from the N64 version 1.0 rom, running on emulator (PJ64)

I agree, I love the Shadow Temple! This glitch is just something I've found really helpful in some OoT Randomizer runs that I've done. Sometimes you'll have every item you need, and you just need to get the medallion/stone from the bosses to unlock the way to Ganondorf. So this glitch is a great way to get to the last area of Shadow Temple very quickly to go fight Bongo Bongo. It's also helpful in No Logic randomizers, because you might not get the small key that you need in order to get into the middle of Shadow Temple, but there are some chests you can get in this last area of Shadow that could provide a key.
tl;dr this glitch is basically just something I find useful in randomizer, I love Shadow Temple and will do a full clear of it in rando if I need some items still, of course! :D
How did someone figure this out organically
Glitches like these (that have super specific setups) are usually found by running a tas bot. Then knowing the glitch exists, a human player (in some cases teams of people) tries to find inputs to recreate the glitch in real time. Its very rare a glitch like this is found randomly. Old ps1 and n64 3D games like this are most likely to have clip glitches like this

99.99% of setups are found by humans except for Stale Reference Manipulation and Arbitrary Code Execution that require angle-precise and float-precise tricks that can't be found by humans.

This particular setup, no. But there is a method of clipping past this gate in the 3DS that uses a bomb to push Link through the fence. Not sure how precise it is, but I pulled it off pretty easily first try after watching this video: th-cam.com/video/W3DmoHadx50/w-d-xo.html

I always found these funny. Why play the game if you’re trying to get through it the fastest?
Nobody is trying to play the game this way their first time through, I've already played Ocarina of Time normally several times, repeat playthroughs would get stale without fun glitches. Doing glitches and trying to go through the game faster is part of the fun for me on repeat playthroughs. Speedruns are popular for a reason, it's fun!
Also, I made this video and my other shorts mostly with OoT Randomizer in mind. You can complete a randomizer run in a few hours, and randomizer makes the game very replayable. There will be many times where you get all the items you need, and you just want to defeat the bosses for the medallions/stones (because they are typically required in most randos to unlock the way to Ganondorf), so being able to get to the end of Shadow Temple very quickly is handy.

This is just a neat skip that can be handy for people trying to play through the game fast for whatever reason. Specifically, I find this skip to be helpful in OoT randomizer, there are plenty of times where you don't need any more items to beat the seed, and all you need is the medallion/stone from the dungeon bosses to unlock the way to Ganondorf. So, if you don't need anymore items but you can go into Shadow Temple and beat the boss, this is a good way to skip a bunch of the dungeon that you don't need to check anyway, and get to the end of Shadow quicker.
Also, glitches like this are just cool to see, in my opinion :]

It's mostly a trick useful for randomizers, this isn't a trick for someone playing the game for the first time. and it's just kind of cool to see interesting glitches in these games, at least I think so

OoT is a little finicky sometimes, make sure you're all the way in the corner before starting the sidehops, and when doing the sidehops just flick the stick left and click A at the same time for each sidehop, if you hold left you might move a little more than intended, when doing the slashes make sure you hold target to do the vertical slash specifically, and click shield as soon as your sword hits the wall, when doing the jump slashes just spam the hell out of the A button to do both jump slashes so that the second one goes off before the game has time to push Link back out.
Also, if you're on the 3DS version of the game, the glitch will not work

Well there are a couple of reasons, it could be used in speedruns (I think speedrunners use a slightly faster method though, but more difficult), or if you're replaying the game and challenging yourself to speed through it. I definitely don't recommend trying to skip Shadow Temple on your first time playing the game.
The biggest reason in my opinion though, is for OoT Randomizer. A lot of the time you'll find all the items you need somewhere else, but you still need the medallions/stones to unlock the way to Ganondorf. This is a great way to get to the boss really fast so that you can the medallion/stone, if you happen to not need any more items. If you do need items though, you probably should check Shadow Temple because it has a lot of chests. Although, in a "No Logic" randomizer you might be unable to find small keys to get into the dungeon proper, so this would be a useful method for getting into deep Shadow Temple where there are a few more chests to check, and hope you get a small key there.
This needs to get patched.

Why would anyone skip any of this game 🤷♂️
There are a good amount of reasons, the most obvious would be speedrunning. You could even just be replaying the game and for fun trying to see how fast you could beat it. So, easy and quick skips could be handy.
But my main idea with a lot of my shorts that show OoT glitches, is to help people with randomizers. In OoT randomizer you only need a certain amount of items to beat a run, but you also have to get the stone/medallions from bosses to unlock the way to Ganon.
So if you have everything you need to beat Ganon, you can use this skip to quickly get the medallion from Shadow Temple. It can get a bit more complicated than that, sometimes you don't want to skip Shadow and you want to go hunting for items throughout it, but there are a lot of times where you won't have to and getting to Bongo Bongo quickly is what you really want to achieve.
I mean you could take your time with a randomizer, I'm not saying you have to play like this, but I know a lot of people who like to try and beat their randomizer runs as fast as possible, and this is one tool they could use to do that.
Also glitches are just cool to see and do, in my opinion!
How do you have 999 rupees?
It's an OoT randomizer thing, it adds an additional third wallet. I assume it's so that you have a better chance at finding at least 1 wallet in case you have to buy something expensive or something like that

I've played the game normally a bunch of times :D Just showing off a cool glitch and a really handy trick for randomizers, since you don't always need to clear out a dungeon to beat a randomizer but you might need to beat the boss of the dungeon for their medallion/stone
