You do honestly have this scary tendency to somehow predict the future when it comes to archetype archives... Either you are some sort of yu-gu-oh prophet, Konami watches your videos... or... you just have incredible convenience at your disposal. Or... your a fucking vampire lord in disguise and you know the future...
Watching this again in preparation of my upcoming What a Deck on Vampires. It's too outdated to help me build my deck, but it did make me laugh. It seems your videos age better than the cards you're reviewing lol; good job Rata.
This series started off happy and fun, looking at and sometimes insulting old archetypes, now he’s being mentally tortured and threatened. Sounds like the tone GX had to me.
I mean, Armored Zombie, a zombie very self-explanatorily covered in armor, also has 0 defense. Maybe zombies use paper mache armor for aesthetic reasons or something.
@@BluePhoenix_ Paper and Paper mache are very different. Layering a lot of paper to basically wear textbooks provides a lot more defense than crumbled paper molded to look a certain way.
man, i used to love vampire lord back when i was playing yugioh online 3..shame the card got powercreeped to oblivion by now vampire vamp can equip me anytime
If only the "bleed" effect banished instead of milling..... Wouldn't have made them meta or anything, but would have made them a bit more interesting...
Kavi Khan Yeah but they are not very consistent and quite slow at that. Would it really have been that OP?? I think at the very least it would have actually hindered the opponent rather than setting the graveyard for them and giving them advantage lol :)
He's referring to Macro Cosmos, which banishes any cards that would be sent to the Graveyard. The thing is, it hits both players, and Vampires, being Zombies, rely a lot on the Graveyard; using Macro Cosmos would make them unplayable. Dark Law is better, only applying the effect to the opponent's Graveyard, but doing so would also lock you out of Vampire Kingdom, since it would banish the cards before they can reach the Graveyard.
I find it funny how the best thing about the Vampire archetype... is the person who used it in GX, because Camula is really damn cool. Also, I can say this right now: Vampires would probably be a nightmare for Exodia users.
It is 2020 and Abaki Memes in Rata vids still fill me with inexplicably high levels of joy even as the world is burned by their effect damage. Thank you for the re-watchability of all your content for helping me cope with keeping my mind off my mental health issues while I try and work from home and pretend shit isnt falling apart.
Ironically, so much has changed in the last 3 years. They received direct support which changed their archetype style and works very well with the new zombie support. Especially if you add Eldrich and Golden Land cards.
I just wanted to say that your content helped me a lot... its funny when you listen to someone passionate about something, you find your passions again. I felt kinda lost in college and depressed because of wasted money etc. Then I found you and watched all of your LOW videos and AA videos at least 3 times each. I've even just listened to you during lectures, because it reminded me of the reason I'm in college and following my child like dreams. Sincerely thank you for your videos, even if you are talking about Yugioh a game i haven't played since the 5d's era, You ooze passion and love on such a deep level that i can't help but enjoy your videos more than most things in my life, So thanks again for your videos helping me through some hard times.
If you want it, it's the Kobold scream in the Dungeons and Dragons beats em all by Capcom: Tower of Doom and Shadow over Mystara (rereleased in a compilation called Shadow/Chronicles over Mystara, I believe) I heavily recommend them, definetly the best Beat'em all I ever played quality wise. (Turtle in time is still more fun though.)
How ironic that vampire baby was ignored for not being related to the archetype only for its effect to be on almost every monster in their dark saviors support
Back in the xyz days, vampires were one of my favorite decks to play. No one knew what they did so they never expected the Vamp or Monarch’s Stormforth
Oh my god, the new Vampire support is a combination of Vampire Baby minster stealing effect, Vampire Koala's monster stealing effect, and curse's/grace's LP cost effects.
House of Champs yo that tower of terror was insane. Yu couldn't tell when it was the part where you were going to rise and fall and it was so creepy. I still have Vietnam flashbacks
I'd really like to see an archetype archive about gravekeepers, they were the first archtype to be made and have (in my opinion) one of the most interesting historys due to necrovalley and gravekeepers spy.
Ancient gears, ancient gears, ancient gears, ancient gears, ancient gears, ancient gears, ancient gears, ancient gears, ancient gears, ancient gears...
it's kinda hard to review an archetype that constantly gets support, as within a set or two the information in the video will be irrelevant. Also, R cri, Archetype Archive is just reviewing any archetype, not just bad ones.
R cri just because it doesn't have bad support, doesnt mean t shouldn't be on the show. That was legacy of the worthless. This is just reviewing old archetypes
How? Its effects are so simple: This card can only be activated during your main phase 1 or main phase 2. You can play Pot of Greed immediately by placing it in face-up position in your spell and trap card zone, or you can postpone its activation by setting the card face down in the same spot as long as it's not occupied. Upon the moment of Pot of Greed's activation, unless it was negated, the player who activated it is allowed to perform the "draw" mechanic twice in a row, which of course refers to the act of pressing down the top of your main deck with your fingers and gently swiping off the topsiest card of said deck, and afterwards adding it to your very own personal hand without targeting or revealing said cards to the opponent. The cards, much like the main deck, are face down unless Convulsion of Nature is in effect or one of the cards is Parasite Paracide. After the effect of Pot of Greed has stopped applying, the card is sent to the graveyard of the player who activated it or banished if cards such as Macro Cosmos are on the field. The drawn cards can be played as if they were in the player's hand the entire time and they follow the standard game rules and summoning and activating procedures. If by the end of the turn or this card's activation the amount of cards held by the player who activated this card exceeds the hand size limit (6 by default) then this player must discard cards until they reach the current hand size limit. This card cannot be activated if the player's main deck contains less than 2 cards, effects can indeed be activated in response to this card's activation, and its activation cannot be negated by the effect of Mystical Space Typhoon. Have fun playing the Yu-Gi-Oh™ (遊戯王) Trading Card Game!
1. Amazing video 2. Abaki meta needs to happen 3. I hope the card game isnt actually going to die 4. I run shit decks like this until there is a meta where more than 3 decks are viable, you know so variety can be a thing again. (If it doesn't then maybe I take back number 3)
A little surprised you didn't mention the unofficial vampire tactician "patrician of darkness". His artwork and stats clearly hint at his vampire ties, but shame on konami for not making him official all these years.
I forgot this video had a Twilight Zone shout out. Nice 7:19 kinda funny this was the first time i knew about cimooo, even though i didn't know he was a yugituber at the time
Including vampire baby, this video goes over 13 vampire cards; I think since then, they've added ~15? More than doubled the archetype. To coincide with your hand in the Morbius meme, I wonder if now would be a good time to make an update to this? BRAND SYNERGY, AND ALL YOU'VE GOTTA THINK OF THE BRAND SYNERGY
An interesting tech with vampires is gravekeeper’s servant, an old as dirt continuous spell that mills the top card of the deck to the grave whenever your opponent attacks. The triggers the field spell, puts sorcerer in the grave and pops a card on field.
My headcanon is that pegasus designed vampire lady after camula, which would be the explanation for them to have so many similarities in their design (the card being a dramatization of her design) and why camula's transition card has it with her instead of, say, lord, genesis, or her field spell. We also know that pegasus didn't just pull from egyptian mythology and camula is old (both being fairly "duh" observations, but important to note nonetheless).
As someone who has a Vampire deck that I vary much like using I was vary excited for this particular video and it does not disappoint you've summed up most of my thoughts about the vampire archtype and brought to my attention a few I never thought of before, honestly though I do like your content and I do hope to see more :)
I remember in the WCS 2005 game the CPU would always select to send monsters to the graveyard, so if you're running zombies you can creature swap them a vampire lord/lady and take damage for a free Despair from the Dark :)
If I could think of a way to modernise the archetype, I'd start with having cards sent to the Graveyard be a punishment again. Maybe a new Rank 5 boss monster that locks your opponent out of the Graveyard, or negates the effects of any card it sends to the Graveyard, or burns the opponent each time a card is milled. Maybe you could gain Life Points from deck destruction - like a vampire! Or maybe you could just overhaul the archetype and make it so their effects banish cards from the Deck instead; while there are cards that do benefit from being banished, it's still largely considered a punishment to most decks.
Despite being a warrior and counter, Vampire Hunter is consodered part of the Archtype and it works with the lore too! Even though most Vampire are Zombie, the direct support mostly specifies that they just have Vampire int he name and be Dark attribute. A lot of people belive that the monster in hinter is suppsoed to be the pale dude in the pic. That is wring. Notice he is sort of in the midground of thw pic and to the side. What is in the foreground and center? The whip! It even has an aura around it to help. In japan it is called Vampire Killer which Castlevania fans will realize is the name of the whip. I wont go into all the detials but the whip in the series contains the soul of the first vampure gunting Belmont's fiancee who was turned by the king of vampires at the time. She gave herself willingly to become part of the whip of alchemy and enable her love to get vengence. This vampire soul is what transfomed it into the Vampire killer and thus why the care is a dark, dark slayer. It is a warrior because it is now a weapon but still empowered by a vampire soul turned against its own kind.
Great vids, I enjoy you explaining the archetypes the most. I am looking forward to more of this archetypes series, probably chemicritters or maybe Destiny Heroes.
I gotta say man, when I get home after 14h of daily work (7 at one job and 7 at another) life seems utterly fucked, untill I see a new upload from you... I then go to watch some of my favorite ones after I'm done with the new upload. Thank you Mr. Rata.
I like the Archetype but it's gimmick (sending cards in your opponents deck to the graveyard) kinda helps most decks today. I really think they would be good though if they had something like necrovalley to stop the effects of the cards they send to the gy but unfortunately they have no such thing.
Mask Change II into Dark Law does sound like something Vampires could pull off; Dark Law's juuuust high-level enough for it to work. Problem is, it would lock you out of Vampire Kingdom entirely.
Can I just say I appreciate the use of Bugs n Taz Time Busters music in the outro Game even has a final boss thats a vampire, thats kinda clever of you
Alright alright. I will be the first to say that vampires have some draw backs, but I should know better than a lot of these people who say it sucks... I actually play vampires. The swarm ability is amazing. The underworld engine splash makes that just so much better, and the fact that zombie support is as good as it is (insert mezuki love here) the deck has pretty good staying ability. Plus the consistent tops I get at locals are stupid xD JUST SAYING mad respect to you rank 10. Loved this video don't take my salt towards you. Just love my vamps.
This video is now a fun retrospective on how this archetype used to play before they gave them 13 new cards and a completely different playstyle
Did you know that there is new vampire support?
Did you know you memed new vampires into existence :^)
You do honestly have this scary tendency to somehow predict the future when it comes to archetype archives... He's like Jaden, oh no

The best part was when Vampire Lord said "IT'S MILLING TIME!", and milled all over those guys.
My favorite part was seeing a shirtless Vampire Sorcerer do a funny dance, what a classic scene!!!

Players happily banish ten cards face down. Banishing one which your opponent picks isn't going to phase them.

alexandremstpierre If we up vote your comment maybe we will get it back...
I honestly just showed up to see Vampire Hunter. The best Belmont that never was. Thanks for the fix, man.

great timing RANK10YGO! u a good dude, didn't even know about that dragon monstrosity
The Number 24 should have some honorable mention. :3
It’s happened again. First, B.E.S. Field spell, now there’s new Vampire support with BRAND NEW MECHANICS!!!
Plus the consistent tops I get at locals are stupid xD
JUST SAYING mad respect to you rank 10. Loved this video don't take my salt towards you. Just love my vamps.
Russel Taylor That's not because of Vampires but rather because you run the actually good generic zombie support.
Rewatching for the 4th time because I love Rata's videos... and because I don't have a life.
can I just ask; whatever happened to The One Whose Shape Was Snatched? He's sounded different for the last two Archive videos...
SageofLight777 Perhaps someone Snatched The One Whose Shape was Snatched shape and is not really The One Whose Shape Was Snatched
I felt oddly inclined to re-watch a bunch of your LotW videos last night so I'm glad this is out
