    Difference between Gordon Ramsay and American food culture is, Gordon Ramsay believes The customer should get the best, American food culture believes The custom is always right. Two subtly different but important things.

    It's hammed up for the American shows. When filming Kitchen Nightmares if you compare his UK ones to his US ones you can see how different they are. The UK ones focused more on solving the problems, getting the chefs to cook better or clean more or whatever was needed, and they generally succeeded. The American ones focused more on what was wrong, getting Gordon to throw up or make comments about the bad food or the mould in the store or whatever, and on the owners refusing to co-operate and being belligerent.

  • @mutton_man
    @mutton_man 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    They eat for free during the filming of the season. Gordon sometimes shuts the whole kitchen down when the teams is not performing and sends everyone home. The rest of the time i think the restaurant runs like a normal restaurant and you do have to pay.

    You should watch his early UK shows. In the British version of Hell's Kitchen (on ITV), and his other early British shows ("Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares" and "The F Word", both on Channel 4), he gets off-the-wall angry. The thing is, though, you can tell that he's shocking the staff into life with it because he cares deeply about how people should prepare food and how restaurants should work.

    I have to say in defence of the last lady "I thought cold water boils faster than hot water" There is a Phenomena where warm water will freeze faster than cold water to make ice, it sounds bizarre, but it is a thing :)

    • @lloydevans2900
      @lloydevans2900 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not really a phenomenon - that word is used to describe something that is known to happen but has not been fully explained as yet. Whereas the "warm/hot water freezing faster than cold water" actually can be explained: It's all about surface contact area when you put an ice tray freshly filled with water into a freezer. Unless the freezer is brand new and has only been switched on for a day or so (or has just completed a defrost cycle), the shelves inside it will have some ice buildup from atmospheric water vapour condensing out and freezing. This ice layer is a barrier between the freezer shelf and anything resting upon it, and ice is a surprisingly good thermal insulator. Soft, fluffy ice or snow is an even better thermal insulator in the same way as any kind of foam is, because part of the volume it occupies consists of small pockets of immobilised air.
      If you fill an ice tray with cold water and put this into the freezer, the temperature difference between the water and the inside of the freezer is not that much: A typical domestic freezer only goes down to about -20 degrees C, whereas the cold water can at most be at room temperature. Though it is likely to be somewhat lower since it is coming out of pipes which generally run underground until branching upwards into your house.
      The cold ice tray is not going to do much to disturb the ice layer of the freezer shelves, so the base of the ice tray is probably not going to be making full contact with the freezer shelf you place it on. The freezer shelves usually contain some of the cooling coils (the heat thin pipes carrying the coolant), so the higher the contact area with them, the faster the water in the ice tray will be cooled and hence the faster it will freeze.
      Whereas if you fill the ice tray with hot water and then place it into the freezer straight away, the higher temperature is usually enough to completely melt through the ice layer on the freezer shelf. This gives the base of the ice tray a much higher surface area in contact with the freezer shelf and hence with the coiling cools. The water is then subjected to a much higher rate of cooling, which more than compensates for the higher starting temperature of the water.
      This is how hot water can freeze faster than cold. We know this because if you place ice trays of hot or cold water into a pristine freezer with no frost buildup inside (yet), the hot water actually does take longer to freeze, just as you would expect.

    All head chef's are assholes they have to be. Michelin stars don't just fall from the sky's it takes decades of training hard work and experience to get there and one high profile critic being served a substandard meal can ruin them. When they open their first restaurant they're representing the chef who trained them and once they become established they pass their legacy on to all the chef's they train. Their restaurant represents millions in funding and all their hopes and dreams and it can all go up in smoke if they take their eye off the ball. Once they've built a good reputation and a solid team they can calm down but new people entering that environment need to keep up or get out because anything less than perfection is crap.
