  • Moritz Seider is great on the 1st pair, but Steve Yzerman is going to need to find some help for the Detroit Red Wings on the right side.
Tune in as we discuss some potential Hockeytown free agent targets to play on Detroit's right side behind Seider (maybe alongside Edvinsson?), whether they'd replace the offense of Gostisbehere or Patrick Kane, if they'd be worth a long term contract, how they'd help the core of Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider, Alex DeBrincat, & more: Tanev, Chatfield, Roy, Tyler Myers, Pesce, & others (4:10).
Next, thoughts on the Filip Hronek trade now that he's asking the Vancouver Canucks for $8 million while the Red Wings have Axel Sandin Pellikka (31:55) before a quick note on Detroit's prospect pool rankings (Mazur, Cossa, Augustine, Kasper, Buchelnikov), & Nate Danielson (35:50) before jumping into our 2024 NHL Draft Prospect Profile on Michael Hage (39:40).
After that, Stanley Cup Playoffs updates as Connor McDavid's Edmonton Oilers advance to the Conference Finals, the Tampa Bay Lightning reacquire Ryan McDonaugh, Keefe goes to New Jersey, & more (47:10) before we take your questions and comments during our Overtime segment (1:03:40) - enjoy!

Evan looks like the most crochet playing individual I’ve ever seen in this episode.

This is offseason priority #1 outside of getting Seider and Raymond’s contracts done. They need stability in the top 4 and LESS CHAOS on the blue line. My #1 target is Matt Roy. He most likely will make it to Free agency. LA’s right side next season is likely going to be Drew Doughty, Jordan Spence, and Brandt Clark. Roy can handle the minutes. He probably took some of the though matchups away from Drew Doughty the last few seasons. He averaged nearly 21 minutes last season and his career average is close to 19 and a half minutes. I know some might be tired of the born and raised in Michigan storyline, but if the player helps the team get better you use it.

Yzerman could see hronek was gonna demand 7-9 per soon and was never going to pay that price and dealt him when his value was good and landed us a high prospect in pelikka in the process. He did good

I'm surprised Dylan DeMelo wasn't mentioned. +45. I don't care how cool you think you are to crap on +/-. +45 on ANY team is impressive. I don't know if he's putting up 32 points again in Detroit, but he seems worth a look.

Yea, was also thinking this. Looks to be a very solid d man analytically too and I think would fit in nicely on the 2nd pair. Don’t think he’d cost a ton and would be a pretty big upgrade over the options we have now.

A Myers Edvinsson pair would be hilarious to watch. 2 high event giants, you'd be able to spot the mistakes from the moon with all that mass.

Roy and pesce might require 5+ years to sign. I’d go get tanev for 3 years max. Even go to 5 x 3 if need be. Need to get rid of maata, Fabbri etc.. to shed salary to make moves

I want Michael Hage for the Wings.

I am liking what I have seen of Hage. He gets to the middle of the ice and has good skill and is a goal scorer and play maker. He isn’t purely a skill guy and has size too and is a right hand shot. Could bring a dimension we don’t have. He could work on his defensive play, but it isn’t from a lack of engagement. I always lean on the “defense can be taught” side of things. I definitely would not be pissed if they drafted him.

They need to zero in on two defensemen who will basically be Seider and Edvinsson’s partner for the next few years. They’ll be able to get rid of Holl, Walman and Maatta.
Matt Roy is the perfect partner for Edvinsson for the next 2-3 years. Roy is a Detroit kid too btw.
For Mo? Just get it over with and target Shea Theodore. Vegas is going to trade him. Likely at the draft. They can’t sign him. Perfect for Mo.
Then Chiarot/Petry and Johansson will play on that bottom pairing with Johansson splitting time with Petry. There’s a reason he’s been playing the right side lately in GR.
For the next 4-5 years as kids come up and take spots, the vets will fall off one by one. The first two being Petry and Chiarot in successive years.
Having Roy and Theodore allows them plenty of options. They can play up and down the lineup and both sides. They can carry a pairing or be a great supporting defenseman.
Brady Skjei was a much better dman for Carolina this year. Pesce took a step back and looked a bit slower this year.

I know the comment was made as a joke, but realistically the downside of Bertuzzi being on the Wings during the end of his tenure was the price and Co-Vid restrictions. After his season in Toronto, if you can retain even 50% of his contract you're getting a PPG player who's familiar with the system, has physical upside, and could perform if someone like a Larkin or Raymond gets injured. Even if he's an 'add at the deadline' kind of gambit, would rather get a known player with high-upside than overpay on a Guentzel whose in high demand, for example.
As for Dmen, would love to see Yzerman take a swing to pick up Valimaki off the open market for young depth, or maybe trade for Jan Rutta with San Jose. Gives more leeway for the Seider and Raymond contracts coming :) IDK

It’s hilarious how bad Hronek was the last 33 games with Vancouver. He couldn’t play on his own pairing. He racked up points playing with Quinn Hughes as anyone would this year. Now the Canucks have a huge contract issue on their hands. They’ve seen how bad he was the last 30 games.

Superstar forwards don't always make much difference in the finals, except they become a superstar because of performance in the finals. Goalies are most likely to make the difference.

Brandon Carlo is the RSD I would pursue. Bruins are looking to shake up their roster with more speed and center depth after losing Bergeron and Krejci. They also have no picks in rounds 1-3.

Tyler Myers is not an option, he has a child with some serious issues and him and his wife love the medical in Vancouver, he will take a team friendly deal there. I like Roy. Please move on from Ghost, offensively he is very good but defensively he was really bad and we need to get better on the back end.

  • @dj4aces
    @dj4aces หลายเดือนก่อน

You know... Ghost was good at offense, but nonexistent on defense. I'm fine if he's not back next season. I would also like to point out that just because someone isn't waiver exempt anymore doesn't mean they *have* to be on the team. If they don't earn a spot? Oh well. I get it, we don't want to see these kids get picked up by another team, but what realistic choice do we have? We can't just play them and hope they're gonna be good someday and maybe take the next step.
We, as fans, can't be angry that we didn't do enough to make the playoffs while also being angry that we didn't start the season with half of the Griffins lineup on our roster. The best the pro-rookie crowd can hope for is 1-2 rookies ro start the season.

    • @fczip5493

I like Catton. Hage is intriguing to me too. A bit bigger and right hand shot that gets to middle. Hage is going to Michigan and would be in the backyard so to speak.
