Well put. To put it to those that don't play Keys, all that needs to be said is "Take one of the best keyboardists in the world, this is his instrument of choice."
Ofcourse, he's one of the most respected keyboard players ever, so it's a great deal for Korg to have him talk so well about their products;). He also does the same thing for Roland btw:b
Its a warning label, that tells you not to expose the Oasys to shocks whilst it is on, or the internal HD could fail. You peel the sticker off after you've read it.
ahhhhhhhh thank you so much i went through all of there cd's last night trying to find it but i didn't listen to this song that long... just like the first 2 minutes of that whole 24 minutes and of course a minute later it came in with that part... thanks again
I’m very fortunate, I have 2 ( 1 for spare parts if need be) the Oasys 88 version like seen here, I love it, cost me a fortune and would never part with it. 😀
Perfect demo. This is by far, the best demo, on you tube. Everything is explained clearly, very informative. Unfortunately, I can't afford one yet. Sounds great, Brilliant keyboard player. many thanx for posting.
It doesn't matter if you are from Norway or whatever country. The OASYS was officially discontinued several months ago. If you buy one now, you are buying an expensive orphan workstation. Either get something else, or wait a couple years until Korg announces an expensive successor to the OASYS.
No doubt the Oasys its one of the most powerful keyboards out there. But the Kurzweil K2600XS is just as amazing as the Oasys (for me), maybe not visualy with the touch screen and the lights, but sonicaly.... its a joy to play. And a lot of JR signature sounds were created in the Kurz.weil.
its the sound of john petrucci's guitar string be attracted to the guitar's pickup due to the magnetism, that can create a little squeak or pinch type sound like that one you hear there.
brilliant...a roland fantom g8 looks good 2 :) but if this is THE keyboard, does it do bassicaly everything? could i load my own samples in if i wanted and use them? play mp3 files etc? thats what i need mainly. i use logic pro 8 at the momment to sequence and i have so many good samples set up on exs24 and kontakt etc...but want them on a keyboard i can take around! or just something which is on Par with it ?
Oh man tha't awesome. The best sound i've ever heard in my life. But can someone answer me please one question? Do the KORG Oasys only have synthetic sounds?
It's funny how he says at the beginning how he kept adding keyboards to his live rig, when in fact he added more to his rig AFTER his transition to the Oasys then he ever had before!
Master!!! Anyway it's the same story : "Hi I'm Jordan Rudess....blablablablabalTECHNOLOGY!......HEAVY SOUNDS.... " and then magic begins on the keyboards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are not comparable. The keyboard is running software (only, no hardware) on general purpose platform. The history of the O is pretty interesting, going from hardware running by software in a PC, to software running on a PC built into a Keyboard.
For my setup the kronos works perfectly. I prefer the fixed screen for live performances so I can easily hit the sound I need to change to. The oasys is better for studio setups in my opinion.
Just as a follow up, J.R. is perhaps the most talented musician on the globe at this time, so I could care less if he had a whole wall of synths or if he just decided to play his iPhone by itself from now on. He'd still be the best.
Thats a pretty facinating comment, considering the oasys is software synthesizers running on general purpose hardware.. so basically it is a softsynth with a pretty badass control interface. Go suck on your mouse chord. I'll keep to my 88 + 100 keys, buttons and knobs..
Listen to the Live at Budokan version Stream of Consciousness. At the end you'll here a weird sound, which I think is an error such as you describe. Never heard it anywhere else, though.
I think that he has somekind of monitoring system in the room off camera... If you want to get a sound out of your board you need somekind of amplification wether it is keyboard amp or pa or a active monitor or something... I use just headphones for sound design and playing with myself or sometimes I use regular computer desktop speakers... with my band I use PA system and on the gigs I use floor monitors for myself and play thru the PA
@theonlydanphillips LOL... didn't really think what I wrote :D I meant when I'm playing alone at home with my keyboard :D I'm not native english speaker so sometimes things like this slip to my writing :D
"Never before has there been one instrument that I could put my entire world into and expect it to do the right thing." Clearly he's not speaking of any woman, but the superb OASYS.
@aafjellstromofficial Thanks, it's an amazing keyboard no doubt, but the time Jordan puts in with key mapping and layering sounds is really key (excuse the pun) I achieve similar results with my Roland Fantom X6 and Triton, and even the rack Roland Super JV1080 with a few nice cards in it too, and I just can't help playing my Roland JP8000 a lot, love tweaking !
uhh for best monophonic, it's the minimoog, no questions asked. as far as workstations go, OASYS (or multiple OASYSes) are definitely the best out there, especially when used in conjunction with Live and whatnot.
As a matter of fact, Jordan already played Fantom G, and he said that it could do sounds he never could do, even on Oasys, thx to 22 MFX. And I would say that even Oasys can't touch Fantom x (and G) piano sounds...
I think they make more than that. Probably 500k-1M. Metallica collectively makes 18M-20M a year divide that by 5 and you get around 4. You are correct. The collective income of DT is probably around 2M-5M.
Unfortunatley, the Kronos touch screen is pretty useless compared to the Oasys'. It has higher resolution, but is smaller, so it can be hard to hit the correct setting, also the (fixed) angle on the Kronos' screen is somewhat limiting. On the other side, the screen on the O is pretty darn big: so big that it causes problems in some setups.
that's the ten thousand dollar question...everyone is trying to find one... there's a way to get something sorta like it in reason with the combinator and a phaser
Lol. For all it's bells and whistles, they didn't think to put some kind of kick-stand on the back of the monitor so poor Jordan doesn't have to keep re-adjusting it. You'd think that would be an obvious feature, given it's a touch-screen.
Hello friend, I would like to know if it is possible to have a korg oasys 76 and I could not find the play list where I can play several sequences and they move from one to the other automatically enter only grandma to help me.
While I can understand the desire to compact a rig into one, two or three keyboards BUT... I LOVE seeing multi-keyboard set-ups at a concert. It makes watching the keyboardist much more exciting [What would a live performance by Keith Emerson be without his keyboard set-up, including the Monster-Moog? BORING!!] Oh yes, why do these things have to cost so damn much ?! I mean, with the super low cost of computer processors, memory, etc. why the hell do these things cost a friggin fortune ?!
Acho Jordan rudes incrivel! Gostaria de ter condições financeiras de ter um korg oasys ou fanton g8 já que este não é mais fabricado. É uma pena. Só posso ficar com meu yamaha 520.
I really want this instrument. I can already imagine all the endless years I would spend locked in my room just playing this....
And?do you have the Oasys?😉
5:45 casually jumps in to one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard lol
it is a partition from "the spirit carries on" from the album "scenes from a memory" - dream theater.
Jordan's amazing. Man, he really is the epitome of someone that's mastered his instrument. That Oasys kicks ass.
I love the oasys I’ve never seen one in person and I want one very bad
Its a warning label, that tells you not to expose the Oasys to shocks whilst it is on, or the internal HD could fail.
You peel the sticker off after you've read it.

@kodack10 It was made as a PCI card first, the OASYS runs a software implementation of the PCI core engine.
I’m very fortunate, I have 2 ( 1 for spare parts if need be) the Oasys 88 version like seen here, I love it, cost me a fortune and would never part with it. 😀
Wow, looks like a great instrument. Very Expressive - it brings the keyboard to life that little bit more!
Perfect demo. This is by far, the best demo, on you tube. Everything is explained clearly, very informative. Unfortunately, I can't afford one yet. Sounds great, Brilliant keyboard player. many thanx for posting.
Haven't cared much for Dream Theater sense I was a teen. But Jordan's playing on this tutorial makes me wanna go back & relisten for the keys.
With this I agree. The O is very cumbersome to haul around. It does look really good in a fixed setup tho.
Hell yeah, this awesome video was uploaded on my birthday =D
gracias por todo jordan de lima perú....
It's really cool hearing all these DT parts solo!
i really find the bits from octavarium and the spirit carries on quite beautiful - jordan is soooo good
It doesn't matter if you are from Norway or whatever country. The OASYS was officially discontinued several months ago. If you buy one now, you are buying an expensive orphan workstation. Either get something else, or wait a couple years until Korg announces an expensive successor to the OASYS.
Jordan Rudess and Oasys: Incredible !!
The song calls octavarium in the final part you can listen to this part
o cara é maluco....toca muito!!!!!!
FANTASTIC!!!!
lovely bit of Octavarium there ^^
amazing keyboard...
@yamahasynth Yeah. It was discontinued in April 2009, but you can still buy some ones new that are left over.
Its not that metal doesnt need keyboard playes. Its that it needs more keyboard players like Joran Rudess.
Wait. You're right.
We need to petition Korg. The Oasys MUST come with wheels in the future.
Hehe
I have seen him use the roland fantom g8 as well. I think with liquid tension.
different instruments with different sounds for different purposes
Woow. Just awesome. He has really mastered this keyboard :)
Great playing, Great sounding

i hope santa gives me one of these this xmas
The KOrg Oasys got all sounds from drums. nature sounds till synthic sounds!
Legendary Pianist: Jordan Rudess
He is a keyboardist
The keyboard has became an expansion of his body, seriously.
@Diablos199 yes you can... Actually you can do that on all korg workstations...
this guy is awesome. period.
The end of Octavarium at the end was stunning, to say the least.
This video made me buy an OASYS 5 years ago
Master!!!
Anyway it's the same story : "Hi I'm Jordan Rudess....blablablablabalTECHNOLOGY!......HEAVY SOUNDS.... " and then magic begins on the keyboards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Spirit Carries On part it's REALLY; REALLY, REALLY, REALLY AWESOME!
I think I'll buy one once I win the lottery.
They are not comparable. The keyboard is running software (only, no hardware) on general purpose platform. The history of the O is pretty interesting, going from hardware running by software in a PC, to software running on a PC built into a Keyboard.
Excelente
For my setup the kronos works perfectly. I prefer the fixed screen for live performances so I can easily hit the sound I need to change to.
The oasys is better for studio setups in my opinion.
No, It has real recorded piano, and many orchestral instruments. It's amazing.
I actually got to try this keyboard out in a guitar center. Fucking sick ass keyboard!
Just as a follow up, J.R. is perhaps the most talented musician on the globe at this time, so I could care less if he had a whole wall of synths or if he just decided to play his iPhone by itself from now on. He'd still be the best.
Wow, my ears are pleased
In the event of a mistake, you can simply use the joystick to take you back in time to make a correction.
Thats a pretty facinating comment, considering the oasys is software synthesizers running on general purpose hardware.. so basically it is a softsynth with a pretty badass control interface. Go suck on your mouse chord. I'll keep to my 88 + 100 keys, buttons and knobs..
Jordan Rudess - the best keyboard player ever
Listen to the Live at Budokan version Stream of Consciousness. At the end you'll here a weird sound, which I think is an error such as you describe. Never heard it anywhere else, though.
iloveyou Jordan!!
What a hustler. I've seen him on the Roland, Korg, and Omnisphere. lol, on each one he talks about how "special" the synth is. I want his job.
Jordan rudess make a lot of instruments demos. And says he likes all the instruments most. Like the receptor, several moogs and other things.
I think that he has somekind of monitoring system in the room off camera... @theonlydanphillips LOL... didn't really think what I wrote :D I meant when I'm playing alone at home with my keyboard :D I'm not native english speaker so sometimes things like this slip to my writing :D
TRUE DAT, i run Logic pro and just a basic midi keyboard and i can do pretty much anything....
i freakin love sculpture, it has endless possiblities
"Never before has there been one instrument that I could put my entire world into and expect it to do the right thing."
Clearly he's not speaking of any woman, but the superb OASYS.
yes..,that's Razor's Edge..,the ending part of Octavarium.
I got Jordan´s autograph =D
rudess is the god of workstations xD
@aafjellstromofficial Thanks, it's an amazing keyboard no doubt, but the time Jordan puts in with key mapping and layering sounds is really key (excuse the pun) I achieve similar results with my Roland Fantom X6 and Triton, and even the rack Roland Super JV1080 with a few nice cards in it too, and I just can't help playing my Roland JP8000 a lot, love tweaking !
damn jordan you are owesome
The 13 dislikes are probably from people who are stuck with their really crappy keyboards and is lusting after this baby right here...
uhh for best monophonic, it's the minimoog, no questions asked. as far as workstations go, OASYS (or multiple OASYSes) are definitely the best out there, especially when used in conjunction with Live and whatnot.

Also fragile as hell breaks with less effort and finding a replacement is like finding Jesus tomb lol
that's the ten thousand dollar question...everyone is trying to find one...
there's a way to get something sorta like it in reason with the combinator and a phaser
best synth and best player
He should do one of these videos for his new Korg KRONOS!!!!!
rudess age is now measured by the length of his goatee
Chuck Norris has an extra fist under his beard. Jordan Rudess keeps Chuck Norris under his goatee.
Lol. For all it's bells and whistles, they didn't think to put some kind of kick-stand on the back of the monitor so poor Jordan doesn't have to keep re-adjusting it. You'd think that would be an obvious feature, given it's a touch-screen.
damn he's so pro on the keyboard.. shame i've never been a dream theater fan he should go solo
He's done solo albums!
playing octavarium at the start is soooo cool
I like to take the best of all worlds, analog, digital, and software synthesizers all have their advantages.
Hello friend, I would like to know if it is possible to have a korg oasys 76 and I could not find the play list where I can play several sequences and they move from one to the other automatically enter only grandma to help me.

Haven't I already told you people? He lives in the Octavarium!
Yes, you are right. All money is in shows. But, every little bit helps. I'm just saying they have financial stability unlike a lot of other bands.
Well, he is missing his cheat sheet in this video. Can happen if you have tons of patches with crazy octave mappings.
@bilbring Does your microkorg have a 10.1 inch touchscreen and SEVERAL forms of synthesis? I thought not.
Being able to play fast isn't everything... But Rudess does it so fuckin' AWESOMELY!
Acho Jordan rudes incrivel! Gostaria de ter condições financeiras de ter um korg oasys ou fanton g8 já que este não é mais fabricado. É uma pena. Só posso ficar com meu yamaha 520.
woww.. really2 cool
@ArtemusDelphus It's the final theme from In The Name Of God :)
@novaprecog
Lol yeah, I do the same by looking at Petrucci's hair length to see what year DT concerts are too.
wow!
@sirgalabadass343 LOL, and you KNOW that Rudess is capable of that. Man/Machine Wizard of Keys
@RPS3000 Are you kidding?
The Oasys is one of the best man.
OCTAVARIUM!!!!
2:27 : Resident Evil Extinction theme by Charlie Clouser! I need the same sound :O
Very ingenious ... I hope Jordan Rudess safety
why can i not find that song "sphere carries on" anywhere?
