Being left handed I had problems playing piano and keyboard. The fingers of my right hand were really slow in comparison to the left hand's. JR's techniques kinda cured me :D
I think that those exercises are from one book of Cherny finger exercises thats the name i think... :D:D So rudess got some classic music influences...thats awesome combining classic with new music you create something powerfull like dream theater's music...
So they play to a click track live eh? I kinda figured, their shit is so technical....and it's seriously amazing to see him and John on sync...especially in some of the more complicated songs.
@rizz7604 I know u write your comment 5 months ago, but I knew that someone was going to say something about how he move his fingers or dont use the wrist or etc. when I watched this video. If u watch his other videos he explains all that u´re looking in the "traditional way". And I need to tell u that Jordan studied at JULLIARD and he plays in a little band called DREAM THEATER.
Ah, but nowhere in there did I actually tell him how to play piano! I'm just saying his is an approach that works for him and probably only him. Anyone else trying to play with "only their fingers" would probably not only not be nearly as good, but would suffer massive playing injuries as well, something which JR seems to be immune to!
By the way, my apologies if you thought I was dissing him...obviously he's a massively talented player, it's just that his playing technique is very anti-traditional, that's all.
Great teaching technique. Could also substitute a drum machine with a groove to add interest. Presented so you can understand it! A couple of good riff ideas, too, especially at 8:00. Must be nice to be able to do this for a living.
He developed this technique because he is playing keybords most of the time.... most of the sounds won't be performed right if the wrist is involved, 'cause you'll tire your entire body if doing so for 5 mins..... he usually does play for about 2-3 hrs in a concert... ah! i'm a keyboardist myself (1,000,000,000 Kms behind Rudess!!!)
Jordan is amazingly accurate and he teaches things in an easy to understand manner :)
Now this is what I call a quality youtube video! Plain and simply totally awesome.

best. keyboardist. ever
Jordan is AMAZING!!!! I wish I had a third of the talent he does
his both hands have minds of their own!
I like sound of a metronome and it also makes me calm, but classic metronome, this sound would get me crazy :)

Jordan you rock!

Thank You!
He's so good!
@Merczid I agree. I watch alot of his videos to help my technique.
Jordan and JP are the best in DT

@StreamOfMetal I'm aware. The technique seems to work well for him...probably not for most other people though.
By the way, my apologies if you thought I was dissing him...obviously he's a massively talented player, it's just that his playing technique is very anti-traditional, that's all.

Everything look so easy on his hands...
He's my guru
dont we all wish man!
ahahah i'd die for him as a teacher o-O
priceless!
I wanna give up my keyboard playing because i saw this......I can't be this good.
LOL!!!!
The thing is you can be this good... practice... Jordan is passion and practice makes perfect.
I'm sure Jordan is like Chuck Norris. While he plays a song, if he decides the beat must slow down, the metronome will slow down
I'm on your team
Fucking master... i dont play piano.. but this guy is a fucking master
@Unholybarrelmaker
The Jordan Rudess Online Conservatory. That is all.

muy buen tutorial..y es el mejor pianista...
Piano Monk!!
I like how they have a closeup of the metronome several times..like you don't know what a metronome is or what it looks like..lol
Practicing...
so if he's like that on the piano/keyboard....what he's like on the computer keyboard O_O
Is the piano a Young Chang?
He plays for Dream Theater... so i gues he's close to that time :D
i couldnt even play the fucking warm up
It's a Steinway.
@luisfgalvez That was sarcasm fool.
I don't think Jordan likes that metronome very much... :P
This guy is sick..LOL..Wonder if he has like 50 000 hours of training behind??
I want you to be my teacher I was very mad at you people of Thailand, I end as I approach you have. Cheer me with
two armless people saw this
Unlike John Petrucci who thinks he knows what hes talking about but he never explains shit!
