- My next unboxing. Ravensburger has revamped the original Disney Villainous box. Some villains have returned. Other did not. Find out what has changed and what is still the same. Is this version easier than the original, or do these new changes make the game even more difficult? Let's find out as the Absent Friend inspects and comments on the entire box. Thanks for watching! I have mixed feelings about this box. I bought the big green box to start with and played it with my family. My family had no problem with that box as a good starter box. I was excited thinking we were get new characters, but I don’t understand why they had to do these again. I am excited about Ogie bogie, though I love nightmare before Christmas. he’ll be a cool one to add to the collection.
I’m curious to see what he’s about and why he’s the only one in the box.
My opinions
The removal of start of turn is good.
The change to prince john is good.
The change to maleficent is mostly good.
Both had a real problem of not wanting to interact with the fate deck/board state.
The change to Ursula loses a lot. Yes she was weak, But she wasn't badly designed the way i'd say john or maleficent was.
Captain hook just mostly feels like "we weren't using locks".
Sounds right to me! It does make them "easier" for anyone who is new to the game. Not easier for us veterans.
Are the balance changes in this box intended to update and replace the older versions? Because that's very strange to me... Why did only these 4 characters get the update if that's true? I'm really confused whether this box is intended to be a standalone. Like, what versions of these 4 characters are going to be used competitively?
They are not replacements. They are just easier for newer players to get a better grasp on the game and it’s mechanics. I’m guessing … lol. I still plan on only playing with the originals, but I will still give these a try.
Hello, Absent Friend. Longtime viewer, first-time commenter here. Thank you so much for this and all your other incredible videos. They are fun and helpful takes on this extraordinary game. I was going to wait to get Intro to Evil, but then I saw the Ravensburger video on Ursula’s changes. There are many challenging Villainous characters. Ursula, for me, was so challenging to play as to be unpleasant. (I feel similarly, but less vehemently, about Gaston and Lotso.) This edition not only makes Ursula less of a headache, but now I'm finding her an enjoyable character to play. Also, to me, I think they’ve improved the other three: original edition PJ and Mal are ridiculously easy; Hook fates are always dicey before Pan is pulled. Q of H and Jafar are practically perfect as they are; no need to revise.
To your question on Ursula’s allies’ gender, I think the lyrics of Poor Unfortunate Souls address that: “Flotsam, Jetsam, now I've got her, boys.”

OF COURSE! How could I have forgotten that part of the song. Thanks for the reminder! I feel so foolish, lol. I agree that original Ursula was definitely a challenge in the first box. I still haven't had a chance to sit down and play through these new versions yet. I think the big question on the table now is ... How do these new versions compete with the expansions? 4:44 I’m pretty sure Prince John’s piece is the crown on top of a gem/diamond. I could be wrong but it looks a lot like the crown from the movie.
Possibly, but it doesn’t have the bits on top. Check out the crown card to see what I mean
Interesting box. I’m just miffed that they re released previous villains instead of doing new ones.

They are shiny bcause its 100 years edition this year they will relese it with normal figures and a teal box

I didn’t like this box so much i prefer the original, but I recommend after you finish the advanced guide you start playing root its a really fun game I really recommend and hope you play and release guides to it❤❤
